- Tyre inflators, like the Ring RTC4000, are not the most exciting subject matter, but an essential piece of equipment to carry when touring on a motorcycle. Ideally, they won’t take up too much room, and have all you need to get you out of trouble should you get a dreaded puncture. so what does the RTC4000 offer and more importantly is it a good choice for motorcyclists and how does it perform? I aim to find out in this review of the Ring RTC4000.

I've just noticed that i'd added the wrong caption at the 09:11 point. Very importantly it should have said that 'you cannot' use it to charge other devices. A simple yet very critical typo!

This is the first pump I’ve seen that’s both battery & 12v powered. It’s a brilliant idea 👌🏻

I've been using a similar Bosch branded unit for several years now. It's smaller profile than the Ring you tested and was quite expensive, but it fits in the bike tool box fine. I'm very pleased with the autonomous concept.

Great review Tony, I’ve not used mine yet but have charged it up. Love the 4 pressure storage settings and the way everything is tucked neatly into it.
I believe the battery symbol changes from Green to Amber then Red depending on level of charge which is also handy 👍🏻

Great review! I have a makita cordless that uses same batteries as my other tools but is a lot larger. This seams a great inflator for taking on trips and performs well. Cheers

RTC4000: A little complicated to use at first; I don't find the instructions that clear. But once mastered I was so happy with it I bought a second one for the car. Useful video, Man Cave, thanks. And you've just got yourself another subscriber!

I’m travelling with my motorcycle for almost one and a half year now and I’ve never missed a rechargeable tire inflator. 😉 A little bicycle pump is all I need. Of course, it takes me 3 minutes more than you to inflate a 21” front tire, but this little pump is light, small and it always fits into my luggage. Luckily I’ve never used it for myself, but it helped a lot of other people so far. Because usually these Akku tire inflators are empty and useless when people really need them. That’s my experience! So I stick with my little bicycle pump.

I got a slightly different Ring pump, one that's designed to fit in a bicycle bottle cage. Was about £30 from Halfords and has been doing its thing for a year now, no complaints so far.

Just pumped up by space saver spare from 47psi up to 60psi in no time at all, for a motorbike or just topping up tyres it seems spot on 👍fingers crossed it lasts

l found this interesting because I'm wondering would this unit be okay as a quick inflate/check system before setting out for a ride... Personally l never trust garage air points, plus you will be checking/inflating a hot tyre. Thanks for info.

It's good.
And a puncture is likely to be most people's' worst headache with a well maintained bike.
But a £10 Halfords foot pump is foolproof and with a drop of oil on diaphragm every now and again, there's not a lot to go wrong.
I know I'm old school, ( and tight ), but each to their own.
Good review though, and it is an impressive piece of kit.

Looking at this as I got the Ring rtc2000 and today it has failed looking inside the direct drive cog on the motor has worn away only used it about 15 to 20 times to inflate my MTB bike tyres,
I’ve got a very small hand bike pump and the bungs for emergencies. My thinking is that when I pull off the m25 and into the Sahara I’ll be glad I’ve got something that works 😉

Good timing. My cheap one from Amazon has begun acting up less than a year after purchase. One question though, how easy is it to get the nozzle on the tyre valve? Does it screw on or have a lever thingy. I have had many issues trying to attach some to a bike valve, especially the front as the discs and spokes on the alloy wheel leave little room. And thanks for posting this.
its a screw on with a free rotating connector. Easy to screw on to the valve.
Thank you for the review this a really good overview, can I ask can you charge this from your computer or a phone charger with USB C port? I am guessing so with a usb c cable.
You can, but i would imagine it would be quite slow to charge?
Just brought mine this morning in my local Halfords store. mines the round version i like the weight of it i ride a ESKUTA. £42:99 not yet tried it but i will weather permitting try it tomorrow im female and not very technology minded but i found this the most under standable online

Great review bought one of these recently for my Dad. I have the rocky creek compressor but this is much better in my humble opinion 👍
There are 2 Rocky Creek compressors one that runs off the battery & one that is rechargeable the mini compressor which one you comparing it too the rechargeable mini compressor?

@@savgs-ei6ch Yes Rocky Creek make good stuff.I was looking at the mini compressor & buying the Rocky Creek tyre repair tool like a pocket knife & Rocky Creek also make a tyre repair kit that had tyre plugs that a galvanized & use no glue.I was thinking about getting them & putting them in a small dry bag not much bigger than the mini compressor on back seat.

I bought one and very impressive it is to. Only point is after pumping up 2 flat tyres on a bicycle to 55psi (less than 2 minutes total) the battery indicator was flashing red. Also when charging via USB the battery indicator flashes green. Any ideas ? Great presentation BTW!
Hmmm, i'vce so far done 5 motorcycle tyre inflations and theres still plenty of charge. Worth getting in touch with Ring about it
Hi Tony, one key question is how accurate is the tyre pressure. My current (cheap Amazon) rechargeable inflater is off by at least 2psi so i have to check after use. I may be interested if it's accurate
To be honest I never checked it against my pressure own gauge, as to be honest I don’t know how accurate that is either 🤷♂️
Looks like a handy little device, however, I would be interested to see how long it lasts. I've had a few small portable compressors over the years from a few different brands, Ring being one of them. In my experience they all have one thing in common; they don't last very long. Even with occasional use all of mine have packed up and stopped working within 6 - 18 months. Of course, you don't know they don't work until you need one in a pinch and they either don't work or fail part way through inflating your tyre ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I have the smaller inflater made by ring proberbly has a smaller battery but has the same functions. I find rechargeable units like these far more practical than canisters for being able to inflate the tyre pressure to the correct reading.
Did you have to wait for the unit to cool down between each full inflation use
👍 no i didn’t have any issues with heat, I just did them all back to back. It was only the time it took me to deflate the tyre that the pump wasn’t running
How does it compare to the rc2000 cordless pump? Im about to buy one but my only issue is i want to get the rc2000 becuase it can charge other devices but i also want whichever will go to 60psi no problem. Used an air compressor that plugs into the main wall plugs recently and it struggled to get my bicycle tire to aboove 45 psi

Got myself one of these the other day, had to charge it up as kept cutting out. Anyway got it fully charged to the point the little flashing green battery stays in full. Pumped up additional 10psi in each bicycle tyre and the battery is in amber light already after 2mins use. Is this normal behaviour?

Hi how good is it at inflating a flat tyre on the car
I’ve not tried it, but it’s designed for all tyres so I can’t see it being a problem
I’m already carrying a battery on my bike so why carry another? A £19.95 Airman Tour will do the job. This is marginally more convenient but at a price.
How accurate is the pressure measurement?
It’s the same as my digital tyre pressure monitor, but then I don’t know how accurate that is! 😂
