Sea of Thieves is developed by Rare and published by Microsoft Studios.
Sea of Thieves is a first-person multiplayer action-adventure game in which players cooperate with each other to explore an open world via a pirate ship.
The player assumes the role of a pirate who completes voyages from different trading companies in order to become the ultimate pirate legend. Players need to become at least level 50 with 3 of the trading companies to become a Pirate Legend.

From a group of beans sailing a ship in a flat sea, to getting a crossover with pirates of the caribbean, it's crazy to see how much this game has grown. And I'm proud to be a pirate that sails these waters.

@@manuelzumbo3973 The journey matters more than the destination on this game, it's an EXPLORATION game, where you get to sail the seas and create your own fun.
You can look for hidden treasures as you roam the seas, fight skeletons, megalodons, krakens or other players, follow very well written questlines in the Tall tales, be a merchant, besiege a fortress, be a serial killer and get rewards for it. Do whatever you want. Don't wait for the devs to give you reasons to play, that's a sandbox, find your own!

The difference between the 2014 and 2015 versions are jaw dropping for me
Has nothing to do with the engine, they use the Unity client to test new ideas and gameplay mechanics before fully implementing them into the UE4 version of the game.

The 2015 Announcement trailer was not a working game, just a concept render. its crazy how well they implemented that concept and how close it looks so the current state of the game though!

I started playing at launch, before the meg. It has grown to be the best, and in 2 days, my absolute favorite Pirates game ever!!!

I can honestly say as a Technical Alpha player and Beta player itâs probably the best pirate game out there right now, since it checks all the boxes for what people want. The only possible game that could beat it is just an idea too so it comes out on top easily
On April fools they should make the characters return to beans,after April's fools we'll be normal nerds again

Man in 2 years they built an entire physics engine, design 3 ships, recorded and coded at least 1 instrument, made the ferry of the damned, implemented character skins, added texture to water, wood, sand, cannons, barrels etc, added skeletons, multiple guns and a day night cycle (Im probably forgetting a lot). If the original footage was real, then that is a lot of work for 2 years!
Really the prototype wasn't on 2014 but 2013 aprox. Also the footage was towards the end of 2014, but for that moment the art team already started working on the visuals and all of that. Also, 2015 was mostly a cinematic trailer, was not 100% gameplay.
Rumor has it they designed more than 3 ships but the others were scrapped

The early version was the blockout version of the game. Once the code was complete, all they had to do was make the assets which isn't too difficult with enough practice. The one thing that blows my mind is the water physics in the game. It isn't easy to get right, let alone make transitioning to different areas feel seamless.
I put 100 hours into this game back in 2018 and now started playing again in my Series S, the game has so many new content i don't even know where to begin...definitely the MOST underrated Xbox game

the pirates life update is awesome. Even when i first got sea of thieves, i tried making my pirate look like jack sparrow and made my ship look like the black pearl.

@@manuelzumbo3973 SAILING mechanics are the core of the game. You are a pirate. You sail to find great treasures and sometimes combat other pirates/merchants/creatures.
That's it. What more do you want?
Of couse upgrades are only cosmetics, because the progression in this game comes from your SKILLS at playing the game, not from the fact your gun is better than the one of your opponent.
A new player coming today on the game would have the same chances (on paper) than an experienced pirate who played from the release. The only difference is the experienced pirate will have... well... experience... That greatly changes the outcome of a fight.
An experienced pirate can easily win 1 vs 4 on a sloop vs a rookie crew on a galleon. That's the beauty of this game, you don't play to EARN better things, you play to GET better at the game.
Sometimes you will find frienly pirates and share some adventures (and even treasures), other times you will encounter maniacs who will kill on sight. You never know when you might end up in a fight. A ship can always come from nowhere (especially in a storm) because you did not see it (you might not have paid attention, being busy to keep your ship afloat in the storm) and you will HAVE to adapt or die and lose your precious treasures.
It's not the destination that matters, it's the journey :)
@@mikeonlinux5491 a game can't focus on only one thing is dumb ash bruh... and you sound like a clown when the game come out THE ONLY thing you had to do was go on a island with the map and take the treasure or go in the island do a dumb enigma and find the treasure and stop... in fact they had to put in the game many other quest, mechanics and story cause he wasn't a game when he came out and he needed many years to become a real game

What i loved the most in this was ... Phil Spencer! He just became head of xbox back in 2014 when he was playing the prototype, even though the prototype was looking horrible (thats normal) he actually believed in it! And he believed on the team. Look where the game is now â€ïž! That's why Xbox brand got WAY improved since he stepped up đȘđœ
Phil Spencer is a gamer and I think he knows the demographic extremely well.

Even though the gameplay was pretty barebones and boring at launch, I respect them for getting a solid base for the gameplay, world, and quests before worrying about graphics at all.
To think how far this game has come... From humble beginnings to a Pirates of the Carribean crossover... Truly amazing... I've been playing since it launch..

I remember playing this game at a friend's house in 2017 I think, I thought it was cool but only had a 360 at the time, and summer last year I remembered that I wanted this game and am able to get it, so I did and I was not disappointed, its one of my main games and will probably stay that way

If im being totally honest i always loved the game because i loved just wandering around, on my boat :) this game is beautiful. the graphics are amazing, so seeing so much water and waves, how can i resist trying to launch myself in the sky U-U
I've played it at launch and after a while found it a bit dry but after these recent updates I've never enjoyed it so much

Pre ordered it, not much of us pirates out there. At least it's very Rare I come across one in-game
I used to play the beta too :) Got it day one via Gamepass, bought the game instantly, never regretted it. It quickly became the best pirate game ever.

It looks like they got most of the mechanics working first and then just polished out all the graphics afterwards which is very strange development cycle

I'm one of the few people that had pre ordered this game, I haven't came across anyone with the black dog set or day 1 eye patch since 2018. I feel as if I'm one of the Rare OG's that you come across once in a blue moon and I love it.
Because half of them, like myself have been banned or quit the game because of how horrible it is

Fun fact the reason hitreg isnât fixed and will never be fixed is due to one of Rares developers accidentally coding a bug in the alpha stage of the game that broke hit registration. The base game was then built off of this bugged alpha version and it will never be fixed.
