Fun fact: Steve Wochy who was a member of the Detroit Red Wings during the 44-45 season is still alive today at 101 years old. He is the longest lived NHL player.
Wow! :)
There's a nice video on YT of Wochy with Joe Thornton as narrator and interviewer.
He looks to be doing quite well at 101!
The original 50 goals in 50 games ! Maurice Richard setting the gold standard for any NHL players in 1945 and to this day, it's still one of the greatest season feat a player can achieve.
fun bonus fact : Richard got his 5 goals 3 assists game after moving in his new apartment on a third floor, asked Irvin for a day off and he didn't get it
Richard surely earned his 12k annual salary that day!
I think a video on the nhl and the war effort would be interesting. Something along the lines of players who returned to the league after service/players who unfortunately didn’t.
You see a lot of this for baseball players. It would be cool to see the other sports as well. As Lance Geiger, the other THG says, "History deserves to be remembered."
@@bartsanders1553 IIRC, the Pro Football Hall of Fame has a specific exhibit for those who served. Like the NHL, there was serious talk of the NFL shutting down for WWII; so videos on that would be interesting.
@@bartsanders1553Yes. In fact, if the two THCs are game, that would be a neat collaboration.
That Punch Line (Lach, Richard, Blake) was insane.
Leafs just came together in the 40's.
Lach was on a 135 point pace. Kinda elite. ( Richard 120; Blake 102 ). That is an upset.
McCool is such a great name, especially for a goalie.
There is an interesting parallel with the cup final we just had and this one.
Interesting how things were different but also the same back then
I'm a bit surprised that the best-of-7 playoff series used the 2-2-1-1-1 format. I know that gasoline was rationed in the U.S., but perhaps travelling by rail wasn't restricted in either country.
Another nifty Leafs jersey!
McCool’s too cool for school
I would love 50 game season
is syd howe related to gordie?
Google says they are not.
