I use spray-on graphite just wipe it off and the most important thing is to prepare that surface and finish it with 50/50 alcohol water before you apply to the dryer surface you can make

Doesn't polishing black leave spider web swirls that you can see when the sun hits it?

No it takes it away. The finishing compound removes the micro swirls and scratches.
