    I don't agree with the girl about the black people comment. Last time I went to Manizales, I saw an increase of black population and i didn't see the locals treating them any different.

    Thanks for sharing, I have been abroad for years, and haven't seen those streets for a while... I miss my city. I confirm you it is a small city, not a Town. Manizales has something special. I hope you get some "empanadas", and visited some other cool places.

    I am watching this video more than a year later, but I really hope you got to go to other areas in the city and saw for yourself the diversity there really is in Manizales. Weather is not always rainy and cold, landscapes and sunsets are really beautiful and people are not cold at all. The girl´s comment about black people sounds actually personal and does not reflect the reality in the city.

    Another great video, Marwa!
    Very clean streets like here in NC. Also, seemingly very organized. Most inviting.
    The land space of Manizales comprises an obvious majority of retirees (not sure if it's a city or town like you said), which tells me that their government may soon start providing incentives for younger people to live there for continuity purposes.
    BTW (by the way) - You Tube runs some pretty cool ads on your channel bro'.
    Congrats on that! :)

    • @normitos
      @normitos Před 5 lety

      Manizales is not a retiree city, you do see a lot of old men down town, because they are on pensions and have nothing better to do. It is a city with five major universities, he just only went to a very small area. It is a huge college city.

      @@oralv.stephenson1427 Although, I was born in the US, my father is from Manizales. I have lived on and off for years and that video does not really showcase the town at all. Just a small part of the downtown. Commerce moved away to other areas about a decade ago. No one really goes down town anymore unless you need to go to the courthouse.

      Hello James, I've been to Manizales many times. The best time to go is during the Feria de Manizales, it begins the first week of January. The weather is also the nicest during that time of year. Safe travel's!

      Another thing I forgot to mention is that the airport in Manizales is very small, and due to the fog. Many flight get postponed or canceled. If you decide to go, the best thing is to fly into Pereira, and from there it's only 1 hour or so to Manizales. Pereira is a nice city with warmer climate. Safe travel's to Bogota!

      Manizales has 5 universities with about 21 faculties total, it is full of pretty girls, but you will not see a glut of them downtown, but if you go up to el cable abour 4:00 pm when every one starts getting out of class you probably would lose the power to speak.

    That closed minded racism is really common in most of the mountain towns and cities in Colombia and Ecuador. The racism is very open and accepted, with blacks and indigenous at the bottom of the social order. I don’t know why these attitudes persist in the mountains while the coastal cities have become more open and diverse. That said, I loved Manizales for the urban design and planning, the food, the cafés. It’s not a bad city if you’re not on the receiving end of the prejudice.

    • @FallofftheMap
      @FallofftheMap Před 4 lety +2

      Chris Ayala I feel like I would have had a good time in Manizales regardless of skin color in part because it doesn’t affect my love and appreciation for smart urban design, architecture, food, and nature. If my style of travel was more focused on interacting with other people then yes, my whiteness likely would be a bigger factor in how I interact with places like this.

      @@FallofftheMap BALONEY.... one thing the racist are great at is spoiling a good day for the people of color. You never had to live it so don't pretend to know all the emotional intricacies of it.

    • @FallofftheMap
      @FallofftheMap Před 3 lety +2

      ghusa ghusa really? I’ve lived in places where white westerners were hated. Being white doesn’t mean you are immune to racism. I try to experience life with an open mind, but I’m also much more focused on the non-human aspects, the food, the architecture, the environment. In my opinion, people tend to make a travel experience much more complicated and difficult than it needs to be.

    • @ghusaghusa2135
      @ghusaghusa2135 Před 3 lety +3

      @@FallofftheMap You may have lived in places where you were hated for your color, but the part you omit is they hated you but there wasn't a damned thing they could do about it because that's the way the world is structured. They could hate you till they turned blue but in all but the rarest of cases you're practically untouchable. The police, the laws, the government, the culture and the courts all back you, not those that hate you. You can play games about it if that's your mission, but you know full well where I'm coming from here. Unless you just got here from Pluto, you know the score, you just can't bring yourself to admit it. I'll just let it go.

    • @FallofftheMap
      @FallofftheMap Před 3 lety +1

      ghusa ghusa you are very mistaken in your assumptions. I lived in Afghanistan and worked for a small Afghani construction company. There were several times I was lucky to not be killed simply for being there. In South Korea foreigners were frequently targeted by police. They assumed all the westerners were drug users. They would arrest one person and then go through the contacts on their phone trying to set up anyone with a western name in little drug stings. In Japan there were businesses that were for Japanese only. Foreigners could not enter.
