Shhhh bro, don't tell everyone about my secret
I've lived in Manizales for almost 2 months, and I really like it. The people are so nice and even smile at me when greeted. I do have a local girlfriend who is very sweet although you don't want to see her angry side. Her parents have welcomed me into their family. This city really has been a dream come true. I hope it won't become a haven for tourism because that would bring about an unwanted change. It's my new home and I treat it and its people with the respect they deserve.
as long as medellin and cartagena are physically intact, i dont think you have to worry about anything. i mean, my god, if the last two years hasnt turned people off of those towns, nothing will.... kinda amazing the lenghts men will go to to ignore every red flag imaginable.
🤍💛
You are right, too many tourists will destroy Manizales, like what happened in Medellín, Bogota, san Andrés, santa marta , Cartagena.
Not all tourist are decent like you unfortunately ,
Jake I’m visiting Colombia for the first time currently and I have to thank you for putting in all the hard work to make my travel experiences relatable and exciting. 🙏🏼
glad it helps :)
This channel is so underrated. You deserve more subscribers. Keep posting more bro 👊
I'm with Wes! Shhhhhh... About Manizales! I was there for New Years - awesome. It's safe, cultural and yet modern. We don't want another Medellin... I figure the hills will keep most foreigners away.
I think the weather will always be a big deterrent
Yeah please keep manizales on the DL!
Manizales is Nueva Medellín!! Just kidding.. It should be safe, because Medellin and Cartagena are big enough to accommodate many short term thrill seekers.
@@JakeRunnels all the more reason for the expats to stay away the weather is fantastic
Yes Colombia is very entrepreneurial
5:42 That track (Buenaventura y Caney) in the background by the legendary (arguably greatest of all time) salsa band Grupo Niche. I'm sure you've probably heard their music by now in Colombia and in the States for that matter. Love it.
hey, hey, hey...shhhhhhh on Manizales!!! Great video....again
Hey, thanks!
Hey, great work. Good format and production. Also, you found a special place, wich means you are in tune, the city averages steadily, 70F day/ 58F night. Channel growth WILL come, keep up the good work.
Thanks!
I'm definitely thinking manizales
the girls were not laughing at you, they are just the typical majority of colombians who are not used to see foreigners, that's why they looked like in shock or surprised and even nervous because they don't really know how to act with foreigners... when you mention her tattoo she asked you if you know english to read it for her.
You're awesome, dude. Keep doing your thing.
The girls were not laughting at you. Those were some shy giggles for being at a loss of words.
Hi Jake.Would it be possible to do an indepth interview about all the taxes affecting life and expats? Like import taxes, VAT, income taxes, tax exemptions, especially in comparison to other countries....
Hey man, I will definitely look into it! I think some other Colombian CZcamsrs have covered taxes in depth, and I will let you know if I find any 💪🏻
Love your videos man! Please keep going. Just subscribed!
Thanks! Will do!
Manizales is chillier than Pereira bro... It has the same "paisa" vibe but it's a bit more traditional and the "mafioso" culture is not so widespread than in Pereira (unfortunately). It's a more ecclesiastic city, full of churches and traditionally more conservative in comparison with Pereira (traditionally more liberal.
Manizales used to be the "capital" of the Old Caldas (which comprised departments of nowadays Armenia, Risaralda and of course the smaller Caldas). In the 1990s and 2000s especially Pereira gained more traction and create the entrepreneur hub (but mainly cause it became the druglords hub in between Buenaventura and Medellin).
Manizales still retained the traditional "cafetera" tradition that belongs to the old colonizers.
Great comment, didn’t know all that. Thank you.
@@JakeRunnels wish you all the best papá... I'm here in NYC but if I can help you to understand more about Colombia I'll try my best sir!
es.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colonizaci%C3%B3n_antioque%C3%B1a
This was period of history was known as "Antiochian Colonization", because people from Medellin started to populate the Coffee Axis lands (then the Great Caldas was created), that's why all "paisas" share a common idiosyncrasy. It's WAY different but it's something like what happened in America with people from Northern England that come to Pennsylvania and English people from London Area that populated Boston and later NY (is WAY different but it helps you to understand the different idiosyncracies of our people).
Bogota as the epicenter of the country is more cosmopolitan but more linked to bureaucracy, financial services and service sector. On the other side Antioquia and Risaralda are prone to entrepreneurship and business (licit and illicit) that thrives development in those areas.
Manizales came across as the nostalgic "old" Caldas capital that still lies in legal services, government services and traditional festivals (La Feria de Manizales is beautiful you'll see).
Idk if that may help you out... I'm from Bogota and studied Political Science but they're no best teachers than the locals.
And by the way, (probably you already know) they don't like to label themselves as "Paisas" although they're descendants of them 😅
Hi Jake, how proud I feel You visit us in our city , You are welcome forever. I would like to invit You to My countryfarm when You come back to manizales, thanks a lot
nks a lot
What's a business that's missing in Colombia and is fairly common here in the states but you feel will prosper in Colombia if ran effectively ?
Good question, I think it is difficult for businesses to prosper in general in Colombia because of the economy. You might have a great idea but you are still earning in pesos. Anything with exportation and tourism probably.
is manizales more expensive than Pereira?
I heard it is a little bit, haven’t looked into it much. But I can’t imagine it would be a big difference.
Hotels are more expensive@@JakeRunnels
are you monetized now? Congrats, little brother.
Yes! Haha, thanks a lot man, really appreciate it 🙏
what's the name of the song the men are playing on guitars at the beginning of the video??
Not sure, someone else commented it earlier
Debes conocer chía esta al norte de Bogotá
gracias
What's the song at the beginning & the end?
I’m not sure actually :)
She liked you obviously
Colombia🤍
Man. Be quiet. Shhhhhhhhh
Yep, Manizales has less homeless because they were sent to other cities like Pereira. It's a city with an high conservative elite, so they only accept money people, and by they, I mean the government and big companies.
interesting, would love to learn more
@@JakeRunnels The homeless have increased in the last two decades in Colombia because drug traffickers previously exported most of the drugs. Now they are focusing on strengthening the domestic market, many times they give the first doses of drugs to young people in schools for free to get them addicted.
New sub. Not into the god talk but good content and personality for videos.
Don't be so lazy and subtitle the Spanish parts.
This is the second time I've accidently clicked on this guy. I really don't care about your perceptions of the decay of the USA or comparisons. Can't stand it when a CZcamsr has an agenda.
I think Wes is very miserable and very insecure, to be honest. All the things you mentioned are the reasons why: short, Asian etc. All he seems to do is judge people in Colombia, as if he were the best looking guy or as if his wife were next level good looking or something, when in all actuality, she is like a Tia and at best a 5. It´s one thing to have a ¨traditional¨ wife but to think its a ¨bad thing¨ that women want to be independent, is lame. All he talks about is, how good looking people are or are not. If they are fat or not, etc etc.
Damn, curious to see what you’d think of my channel lol
Lol the projection is real my man
@@WheresWes your wife is beautiful, wes.... love your channel too.
@@WheresWes How is that a projection, man? I'm not a gringo. I am from here. You literally have videos where you put gringos on blast and a particular race. ¨Old, white guys, in their 50s and 60s with girls that could be their daughters¨ It´s like you are jealous that they do that but iif you knew anything about Colombia, you would know that 50 and 60 year old Colombian men have girls that could be their daughters. If you REALLY knew anything about Colombia, you would know that Colombians are the biggest contributors when it comes to soliciting pros. ¨Just because you are American you think your luck here is going to be a lot better. Wes, YOU ARE AMERICAN AND YOU ARE A GRINGO. Get real, man.
@@JakeRunnels Nah, your channel is lit, I haven´t seen you talk shit about Colombia. You seem to love it here.
STOP AHole
lol
