- Ronnie Drew (Irish: Ránall Ó Draoi) 16 September 1934 16 August 2008) was an Irish singer and folk musician who achieved international fame during a fifty year career recording with The Dubliners. He was born in Dun Laoghaire, County Dublin.

I’m so glad the interviewer afsked Ronnie to sing The aulde triangle. Wow! He still had it, even so close to his death. It brought tears to my eyes… in 2022. Thank you for posting this 👍
in February of 1988 the Dubliners came to NY City to perform at the great, late, and lamented, "Bottom Line". They were absolutely wonderful, and ended the show with a five part harmony version of "the Olde Triangle", Ronnie singing the verses, and the rest of the group harmonizing on the refrain. It was the singular, most cool thing i have ever seen or heard at a concert, and I will never forget it...and i will always look up to Ronnie, and never forget him...RIP

I cried at the end when the last 2 dubliners played the banjo and violin and then when ronnie sang for the last time

me too...me too...i was in O'Donoghues couple of weeks ago,and me and my wife had a tear goin down our faces,thinkin about Ronnie,Luke Barney and Ciaràn...but still have a laugh and a thoughts about all the good tihngs learned...because from them i've learned a lot...

He is gone but he knew just how much he was loved before he went.
This is a rare thing even among Artists.
Frankly, if Luke will have him back (and I'm sure he will) we all have something to look forward to when we eventually catch up with them again.

All I can say, is that the song, Here's to you, seems a bit soft for him ... Otherwise its a great interview and yet another viewpoint. Still I have to say that the Dubliner's and all of it crew are the best source fore young musicians to learn integity and professioalism. I'm one of those none Irish who had fortune going my way and was brought up listening hearing them through my sleep/slumber when my parents were entertaining. i still have the first cassette of the the Dubliners i got back i 1986,from LT, N ,D and several cd,s i brought after that, some of the best music i had heard at the time out of ,the Old Country,?love this as it fills in the gaps,,R I P, old mates,

What can I say? Ronnie's & the Dubliners sound permeated my youth, my teens & my young adulthood. I was lucky to live in Dublin during the mid to late 80's, you could still wander into O'Donoghue's and you'd never know who you would bump into. I would love to walk around Stephen's Green on a sunny Sunday morning again, with the sound of Ronnie singing the Dublin Saunter as my soundtrack.
I have always loved the Dubliners. Hope their music lives on forever as I'm sure it will.

I knew a few songs of The Dubliners ('whiskey in the jar etc) from some Irish cd I had- but hadn't KNOWN who Ronnie Drew was, or what he and his band looked like! Till that 'Auld Triangle' vid where there r lots of folks singing on like a 'night show' (fella says a poem then Ronnie & folks on stage sing) type thing? Its a fave of mine, & T L Johns just did their own version- luv harmonies no matter what.
... but now seeing Ronnie's bright life and then his illness & loss of spouse hits me more personally~ My hubby is a jolly fella, but from Louisiana (NOLA), & musician in his own style, but is on a brain tumor experience, so I can understand more. Of Ronnie's latest days...the treaments and the vulnerableness one goes thru when stricken w/darn cancer (of any sort).
Wish I was more aware of he and his fellow bandmates, before he passed...this 2019, like 11 yrs too late :( But seeing him sing 'auld triangle' when ill, shows to me his spirit is Bright still 🕊- and how I luv when my hubby is feeling energetic to pick his guitar us and sing during his own brain tumor journey.) I remember being told of the story of the Dubliners were down the country for a concert during the summer months, and the concert was cancelled due to some local dignitary dying in the town. The lads headed into the local pub for a few pints around 9pm while it was still bright. They drank into the wee small hours, and upon exiting the pub at dawn, Barney turns to Ronnie and remarks " Jaysus Ronnie, but isn't there a great auld stretch in the evenings all the same!"

6:09Actually Gerry it was the 16th of August 2008 I remember being in Croke Park watching Dublin get hammered by Tyrone in the Pissing Rain and I think they played Parting Glass on Loudspeaker straight after the match
I sang *The Aul' Triangle in a dungeon cell in a Barcelona police station. Spaniards didn't know what to make of me, but they left me alone👌( judge let me go on the Monday. Just say No kids)

O'Driscoll123 - with respect, I don't think it's actually the questions (as personal as they are) that is the problem here. It's the manner in which the interviewer asks them. To me, he has a very unfortunate manner about him. The focus should only be on Ronnie Drew, it's all about him, his work, his life. Let the man speak - but I'm very aware of someone else on the other side of the microphone seeming to continually 'butt in' and add his two penny worth.

i have to agree. I heard Christy Moore sing a much more fitting fitting to Luke Kelly. This one missed the mark for me, but then it wasn't FOR me. Barney and John playing that lament instead was perfect
