    I just bought the 850 from a local Platinum Dealer. They answered all my questions and had an unbiased opinion also as they sell other brand names. (Some even more expensive) I have to say, when I look into the eyes of anyone and ask “What would you spend your money on?”, they all say Treager. My SS Weber Genesis II is jealous.

    We’ve had our Z Grill ZPG-450A pellet grill for a little over two weeks. czcams.com/users/postUgkx3c8DmtYRYEKYTiR4g7y6Yc2amUPVs_3X It was relatively easy to put together, with 2 of us. (friend and I)The grill seems well built and heavy duty. I followed the start-up directions, and then cooked chicken on it that evening. We’ve since cooked burgers, pork chops, meat loaf, and steak on the Z Grill and love it. I’ve used a hardwood mix (per my Son-in-Laws recommendation) and we are very happy. Like cooking in an outside oven with a nice smoky taste. This is a perfect size for the two of us, and would probably work fine for a small family also.All the things we have cooked have kept their moisture, and remained juicy. No burning on one side!My next challenge will be a brisket. We highly recommend the Z Grill 450A, so far. Hopefully they did get whatever “bugs” fixed from previous models (per the description on Amazon). I’ll update our review after a few months.

      Can you use the app to start this up with the lid closed? I just found a local dealer that has the Timberline. If I can find a way to to 12 months or more interest free, I'm getting this bad boy. I will give my Little Tex Elite to my Son.

    • @TheRealJoeyB
      @TheRealJoeyB Před 6 lety +2

      Richard Eldridge have never used the app. Even with my regular side box smoker, wood, as a fuel source, my goal was to cook at 220 to 225. Well this bad boy, stays on point. Plus up to 225, you are able to keep super smoke going....this thing is so big inside, I did a Family size pizza from Papa Murphy's, 220 in the beginning for the smoke flavor, then cranked it up to 425, to cook it...turned out great...the insulated walls are AmaZing...
      Good luck bro

    Can anyone comment as to how accurate the temp is once set? My concern is Wired's review of the 850 said the temp reading was off by a substantial amount when compared to another thermometer

    Id like to get your thoughts on a good grill smoker Combo. I'm leaning towards the Oklahoma Joe's Longhorn party smoker and grill. Any other recommendations? This is about the price point I'd like to be at.

    • @BBQGuys
      @BBQGuys  Před 5 lety +1

      I always lean towards Kamado grills. They are so efficient with fuel and you can smoke/ bake/ grill on them. Here are our options www.bbqguys.com/bbq-grills-smokers/kamado-grills?sorting=pricelow Also, in your price range I would say the Weber Smokey Mountain is always a solid bet - www.bbqguys.com/weber/22-inch-smokey-mountain-cooker-charcoal-smoker

    Just a little curious what makes this better than the Ironwood 650/885? I'm no grill expert ... But ordered the Ironwood 885 for my dad, and hope I didn't make a big mistake ...

    • @BBQGuys
      @BBQGuys  Před 4 lety +1

      Not much of a difference between the two. Both great grills, the Timberline has stainless steel cooking grates were the Ironwood has porcelain coated steel. The hopper capacity is 24 lbs on the timberline, to the 20 lbs on the Ironwood, again, not a big difference. 20 lbs hoppers are pretty standard. And the small size difference, that's about it. Ironwood is amazing and I personally don't think you made a bad decision.

    Is the extra money worth it when comparing to the pro series?

    • @BBQGuys
      @BBQGuys  Před 5 lety

      The main advantage to me is the better grill insulation of the timberline series. You will find yourself using more pellets with the Pro Series to smoke for the same period of time. More insulation also means more consistent temps, quicker climb back after opening the lid and so on. Also think about how often you will want to use the WIFI capability, that is a nice advantage of the Timberline Series.

  • @Derek-1145
    @Derek-1145 Před 5 lety

    This or a Yoder ys640 competition ?

    • @BBQGuys
      @BBQGuys  Před 5 lety +1

      I can't speak from the perspective of cooking on a Yoder, as we don't carry them unfortunately. I would recommend browsing BBQ message boards to see what people say are the pros of cooking on that one over the Timberline. The main thing I enjoyed about this Timberline over the traditional Traeger line is the well insulated body, and the Wifi capability on the hopper. Both Traeger and Yoder are respected names in the industry, so I would imagine you will be happy with both grills.

    how does that Timberline 850 compare to the Rec Tec 700. Im going to purchase with in a few days

    • @BBQGuys
      @BBQGuys  Před 5 lety +2

      We don't carry Rec Tec, but it looks like the main thing to think about will be:
      850 sq. inches of cooking space with Traeger vs 702sq inches with Rec Tec
      40Lb. hopper capacity Rec Tec / 24 Lb. on Traeger
      Both have Wifi
      Both have good low temp smoking zones
      Yeah man, I would say you are looking at 2 good options. I would also browse message boards and see if anyone mentions pro's cons with their years cooking on either or.

    I bought the timberline 850 a little over a year ago I’ve had had nothing but problems with the Wi-Fi capabilities on this it has been nothing but grief in January they updated their system supposedly to fix it it appears that it had broke my system completely as far as the computer component which I cannot even now use the smoker at all and I’ve recently just been told that the last three weeks I’ve been waiting for the part to get here I will now be waiting till May for it to get here. Do not buy a Traeger smoker!!! Terrible company buy anything but a Traeger

  • @michaelbielaski3543
    @michaelbielaski3543 Před 6 lety +2

    I will never buy or recommend Traeger to anyone - unless they want a really expensive bread warmer.
    - Within the first year the control board died, but was replaced under warranty.
    - Replaced the hot rod in 2016 and it needs to be replaced again in 2018.
    - It's great when your 4 hours into smoking a brisket and go out to find that the auger motor or fan has died.
    - Heat control and/or retention is horrible. I don't recall this ever getting up to 400 degrees. Currently, it takes 45 - 60 minutes for this to get up to 300 degrees and when it's opened to put food on it the temp drops to about 250 and it struggles to even get back to 270 (despite the temp control being set to high).
    - I would not recommend grilling on these - they don't get hot enough for searing.
    - If you live in a "mild" climate like Oregon, you will either need their overpriced thermal cover or a welding blanket during any season other than summer.
    I know and have met several other people that have shared similar complaints/issues, etc.
    Overall, this is a $900 pile of scrap. The new Timberline series may be better, but is WAY overpriced; however, this is probably the way it should have been designed and could still be sold in the $1k - $1.2k price range. I'm not rolling the dice on this brand again and will stick to a good Weber and look at RekTek, Big Green Egg, Kamado, etc. for a better quality product.

    • @aaronkim1074
      @aaronkim1074 Před 6 lety +3

      Thanks for the review. I realize the Traeger could break down and have issues, but I still went ahead and bought one last week because majority of the grills seem to work well and I don't mind dealing with changing out the hot rod or cleaning out the auger if it means I can cook with a real wood burning grill and I can slow cook and smoke with ease. If it breaks down on me too early, i'll probably try a ceramic like the big green egg, kamado joe, or primo, but those have issues of their own as well. I try and look at all material things as temporary... I weigh the pros and cons and just go with one. if all else fails, i'm going back to a good old weber kettle.

    • @loganhagen5548
      @loganhagen5548 Před 5 lety

      Which model did you have? Maybe they had QC issues during that time. I have had my Texas edition since 2013, I also live in Oregon, and have had minimal issues. Mainly only seeing temp issues in dead of winter and I do not have the thermal cover. My Traeger is also stored out in the elements (with the Traeger Cover), but still has never had anything fail. Maybe I am lucky, maybe your unlucky, but I think one we can agree on is the food is amazing that comes off Traeger grills... assuming it functions properly.
