Reseting my KAYAK ROLL and starting again

- I am doing this.. I am reseting my kayak roll and starting all over again.
Due to physical limitation of back deck kayak rolls, I am going to start all over again with the forward finishing kayak rolls and it should be easier with the kayak I am using. The Pakayak does have a high back deck so it's difficult for me to lean back unless I become flexible enough to bend backwards, or I can change the height of the seat but then I will lose stability. So I've decided I'm going down another route with my kayak rolling journey!

Two things. 1. When you tried your balance brace you held the float in the wrong hand. 2. When you tried your first roll with your paddle you change sides underwater, therefore got disoriented. You should have come up on the same side you went in. The normal is to fall in backwards with your paddle already on that side. Keep trying and don’t forget your legs. A thin piece of foam over your thighs works well to hold you in and give better control.
I totally blame the boat. I'm astonished you are doing what you are doing in that boat. Rolling around in the back of my mind is...if fishaholicboy can roll his boat then there is no reason on earth I can't roll mine. The fit of that boat to your body seems to be the biggest hinderance but don't let that stop you because you are progressing. Once you are rolling the Pakayak I bet you will be able to roll your car, refrigerator and clothes dryer. Awesome stuff.
haha funny how you said I could roll such large things in the future. I feel that I am impacted by the size of the Pakayak but honestly, it's really me not grasping the foundation. It's actually quite a nice challenge to see if I can do different types of rolls with the Pakayak and hopefully by achieving that, I can roll other kayaks easier. I would love to see your rolling journey too!
As a couple of paddlers whose number one goal is to stay upright we commend you sir! 😆
Hehe I tried to get upright but failed
Hi and thanks, Fishacholicboy for sharing. The water is so clear for the audience to watch your instruction. "Maybe not" you are so honest@2:15! 😅Even I can tell that you were getting comfortable and secure about your roll@3:27. So in my understanding, the float bag has to be inflated before going on a kayak? I didn't realize that rolling requires body flexibility. I still have fears when it comes to really high waves, away from the coastline. Will you instruct us to roll in the high waves sometime later on? I believe in experience. Well done and keep up your great work. 😎
Im still learning,It was my first time kayaking last week,Im glad you visit my channel.Your content really helps me.Thanks sharing
It's so great that you tried kayaking for the first time! It's alot of fun but please always be careful and have a life vest always!
I totally agree about the boat. If you notice the kayaks used in ‘This is the Roll’ the freeboard, ie the height of deck above the water, is very small especially at the back. This makes the balance brace and getting onto the back and forward decks less effort. Get a low volume kayak and everything will be much easier.
I definitely want to get a low volume kayak.. but storage is the challenge. Might have to explore more kayaks.. a good reason to shop! 😅
11/10 for persistence. My front finishing roll, after years of trying, is still more miss than hit. For me the back finishing roll is easier and more reliable. Love the honesty of these videos, well done
Thanks so much! I'm getting a few comments about how long it took to achieve this roll so it makes me feel better. I suppose the saying "Rome wasn't build in a day" really applies to this. But I'll keep trying and try and build a solid foundation first.
I think your kayak also plays a big role, you have to sit firm, thight and solid and be one with your kayak. Keep practicing, you will come there. The floating bag is a good tool to focus on your hip snap.
The float was great! I didn't use it enough before but now, I will practice with it more before I move on to anything else. Just makes the video content a little boring haha but I suppose that's a completely different issue altogether. Thanks for the support!
Although I use sit-on-top recreational kayaks in shallow rivers for most of my adventures, this has sure got me thinking... Thanks...and have a great adventure filled and safe weekend ✌️
Hope you have a great weekend too! There's a typhoon here in Hong Kong so no kayaking for me! Will save it for next week..
@@Fishaholicboy oh man...be safe buddy
Think back when you were a baby, your first steps were a disaster, but you never gave up, and look at you now. It will come.
I feel like a big spoilt baby at this point in time thinking "why isn't this working!?" 😂😂 Will keep persisting but during this session, I spent 90% of the time swimming and I just lost all my motivation. Need to reset and come back stronger!
@@Fishaholicboy Yes I never looked at re-seeding and re-energizing as a bad thing, because you usually do come back stronger and smarter. I'm still impressed. The word of the day is Tenacity.
I couldn't agree more ! Practice makes perfect and you're putting in the hours 💪
@@AdventureswithAdam1 I feel like my swimming has improved 😂😂
You reminded me to use a paddle float.
I think I need to use the paddle float more and take my time.. I feel I'm too rushed 😅
I just found that I missed this episode, I got what you mean by the pfd hitting your chine haha.
But true, the paddle float can be an obstacle for you to do the pry in the chest sculling. In 3:41, you should move the kayak first before the pry, "Pry when you almost recover" instead of "pry to recover".
Great tip! Thanks for sharing! Can’t wait to show people what you have taught me :)
Good try. Keep your arms close to your body and use your abdominal crunch instead of pushing your body out of water with the paddles. Took me a year to master including 3 weeks out-of-action due to a pulled shoulder while learning this.
Ouch..hope your shoulder recovered well. Thanks for the tip and it’s good to know how long it took you to manage my expectations!
@@Fishaholicboy Yes, it recovered, but never as good as before. After that I learned to keep my forward hand near my forehead throughout this roll to make sure that I REALLY using my core instead of arm power. Both hands should be near your forehead and chest respectively.
There is no set answer
It is important to stick to the basics and find a method that works for you.
I cheer for you ^^
You make a very good point that I need to really make sure my basics are solid!
Hallo....
Amazing 👍🙏💯☕
Thank you!
Not sure if you can get a white water kayak or lower profile one for practicing rolling. Maybe that would be easier?
Hi! I definitely think it could be easier but I believe it’s mostly me 😅 I might try a different kayak just to see how it feels!
Hi nice to meet you 🙏🏼😊
Rolling in a kayak is something I’m not very good at
I tend to canoe 🛶 due to its higher load carrying capacity on a camp ⛺️
But great job 👏
Best wishes and a sub 🤝Simon 🙏🏼😊
Thank you! Makes sense you're using canoe as you can carry much more load. You got a great channel and I'll be binge watching soon!
@@Fishaholicboy thanks so much (I’m humbled)
Do you ever canoe 🛶 or just work with kayak?
but really appreciate your support
Best wishes Simon
The bag is a drag.
Hi, do you mean the bag to carry the Pakayak? It does become inconvenient but I always try to park as close as I can to the shore and put it in the car :)
@@Fishaholicboy Great video - I like that you are trying to learn on your own. I don't believe that using a paddle float is the best way forward though, but hey, that's just me. I was recently training a friend on the front deck roll. The videos of that are on Facebook - group is kayakrolling if you're interested. Summary: start with the continuous storm roll to get a foothold. btw: I have a playlist on front deck rolls here on youtube, and no, I am not the ultimate authority on anything.
U need to work on your stomach muscles…after that u get 6 packs..LOL
I will go and get 6 packs of McDonald’s nuggets!
And Korean beer pls
@@calvincheecs haha.. it's a must!
