Reseting my KAYAK ROLL and starting again

  • I am doing this.. I am reseting my kayak roll and starting all over again.
    Due to physical limitation of back deck kayak rolls, I am going to start all over again with the forward finishing kayak rolls and it should be easier with the kayak I am using. The Pakayak does have a high back deck so it's difficult for me to lean back unless I become flexible enough to bend backwards, or I can change the height of the seat but then I will lose stability. So I've decided I'm going down another route with my kayak rolling journey!

    Two things. 1. When you tried your balance brace you held the float in the wrong hand. 2. When you tried your first roll with your paddle you change sides underwater, therefore got disoriented. You should have come up on the same side you went in. The normal is to fall in backwards with your paddle already on that side. Keep trying and don’t forget your legs. A thin piece of foam over your thighs works well to hold you in and give better control.

    I totally blame the boat. I'm astonished you are doing what you are doing in that boat. Rolling around in the back of my mind is...if fishaholicboy can roll his boat then there is no reason on earth I can't roll mine. The fit of that boat to your body seems to be the biggest hinderance but don't let that stop you because you are progressing. Once you are rolling the Pakayak I bet you will be able to roll your car, refrigerator and clothes dryer. Awesome stuff.

      haha funny how you said I could roll such large things in the future. I feel that I am impacted by the size of the Pakayak but honestly, it's really me not grasping the foundation. It's actually quite a nice challenge to see if I can do different types of rolls with the Pakayak and hopefully by achieving that, I can roll other kayaks easier. I would love to see your rolling journey too!

    Hi and thanks, Fishacholicboy for sharing. The water is so clear for the audience to watch your instruction. "Maybe not" you are so honest@2:15! 😅Even I can tell that you were getting comfortable and secure about your roll@3:27. So in my understanding, the float bag has to be inflated before going on a kayak? I didn't realize that rolling requires body flexibility. I still have fears when it comes to really high waves, away from the coastline. Will you instruct us to roll in the high waves sometime later on? I believe in experience. Well done and keep up your great work. 😎

    I totally agree about the boat. If you notice the kayaks used in ‘This is the Roll’ the freeboard, ie the height of deck above the water, is very small especially at the back. This makes the balance brace and getting onto the back and forward decks less effort. Get a low volume kayak and everything will be much easier.

    • @Fishaholicboy
      @Fishaholicboy  Před rokem +1

      I definitely want to get a low volume kayak.. but storage is the challenge. Might have to explore more kayaks.. a good reason to shop! 😅

    11/10 for persistence. My front finishing roll, after years of trying, is still more miss than hit. For me the back finishing roll is easier and more reliable. Love the honesty of these videos, well done

      Thanks so much! I'm getting a few comments about how long it took to achieve this roll so it makes me feel better. I suppose the saying "Rome wasn't build in a day" really applies to this. But I'll keep trying and try and build a solid foundation first.

    I think your kayak also plays a big role, you have to sit firm, thight and solid and be one with your kayak. Keep practicing, you will come there. The floating bag is a good tool to focus on your hip snap.

    • @Fishaholicboy
      @Fishaholicboy  Před 2 lety +2

      The float was great! I didn't use it enough before but now, I will practice with it more before I move on to anything else. Just makes the video content a little boring haha but I suppose that's a completely different issue altogether. Thanks for the support!

    I just found that I missed this episode, I got what you mean by the pfd hitting your chine haha.
    But true, the paddle float can be an obstacle for you to do the pry in the chest sculling. In 3:41, you should move the kayak first before the pry, "Pry when you almost recover" instead of "pry to recover".

    Good try. Keep your arms close to your body and use your abdominal crunch instead of pushing your body out of water with the paddles. Took me a year to master including 3 weeks out-of-action due to a pulled shoulder while learning this.

I was recently training a friend on the front deck roll. The videos of that are on Facebook - group is kayakrolling if you're interested. Summary: start with the continuous storm roll to get a foothold. btw: I have a playlist on front deck rolls here on youtube, and no, I am not the ultimate authority on anything.
