  • We went out with 4 mates for an easy day with Trak 2.0 Kayak with some Rolling Practice. We also had a great BBQ on one of Hong Kong's most beautiful beaches.

    The prawns are the gateway to your rolls! Haha! Anyway, the Trak's raised stern deck makes it difficult to lean all the way back during Greenland rolls.

      It definitely was the food.. haha. I believe I need to learn forward finishing rolls which should be ok on the Trak

    Beyond beautiful, food looks even better done on a beach. That return sweep forward seems to be the ticket, I've seen more than one person using that technique. Just set out there on that sculling brace and work your way up slowly. Living the dream there, great video post. And shout out to Stanley and that massive acceleration past you Lol..........

      Thanks, Bill! I have to learn forward finishing rolls which will be easier with the Trak. BBQ on the beach is always the best!

    Sorry buddy but I was laughing my head off at your first 6 attempts at rolling especially the ones where you made it all the way up but then rolled over and kept going under again so bloody funny.
    However you did it so well done mate them last few were brilliant. Also that BBQ looked tasty

      I couldn’t believe that I kept falling back into the water.. was very tired after that one round haha. Luckily got the hang of it afterwards. The BBQ was amazing and I definitely want to do more of it!

    Looks like a great day out. Your roll has progressed really well, I still fall into that trap of sitting up too early rather than lying on the back deck.

    Hi my friend! 2,30 meters long? That is a very long paddle, I prefer 2,10 meters (I’m 170 cm long and, admittedly have narrow kayaks). You have a small splash when you put the blade in the water, a shorter paddle or a very good body rotation may help you with that.
    Keep on practicing your roll and don’t forget the leg drive. Btw, sometimes, mostly for demonstration, I open my hands a millisecond when the paddle is on the surface of the water. The beauty of the GP is that it will stay exactly flat on the water and you don’t have to do any other adjustments.
    I was struggling last year with the reverse sweep but it’s working very good now. I did a LOT of practicing before it was working good. So just keep at it.

      Jonas! So happy to hear from you. I'm still waiting for your review videos :)
      Thanks for the observation.. I'll keep my eye out when I am on the water next and adjust. I haven't tried a 210cm paddle yet.. but being 184cm tall, I am not sure if a shorter paddle would be better. Definitely want to try one.
      For the leg drive, yes.. I need to keep this in mind. I always neglect my leg drive and need to really focus on it so that it becomes a habit!

    Congrats on the successful rolls! I've heard that rolling Traks can be challenging. Mental note: practice rolling on a full stomach! Also, is it that surfskis are the most popular kayaks in Hong Kong or it just so happens that all your mates are surfski kayakers???

    • @Fishaholicboy
      @Fishaholicboy  Před měsícem +1

      Thanks! Definitely need to roll on a full stomach.. but I'm pretty good at rolling on the floor after a big meal 😂 There are all types of kayaking in Hong Kong and you're right, it just happens they have surfski's but they also have other kayaks too.

      surfskis are getting more popular in Hong Kong, I like it for the speed and easy to remount, feels much safer when going out solo

    • @Fishaholicboy
      @Fishaholicboy  Před měsícem +1

      Hi.. it came reinforced with the Trak and I didn’t add anything to it. But I know there’s a product called KeelEazy that many people use for their hard shelled kayaks

    Trak is not easy to roll due to the high coaming at the back.

    • @Fishaholicboy
      @Fishaholicboy  Před měsícem +2

      Yes, it’s quite deep so not the most ideal for the standard Greenland roll.. will have to try forward finishing rolls!
