We're back! Been working hard on this edit behind the scenes. Oh yeah, the new dry backpack is finally LIVE!
been waiting you for a while
@@guest4596I appreciate you being patient with me! It takes a long time to make these since it is a hobby but I love being able to share the films with our community. Y'all make it so much fun!
Great video ! I have a trip coming up and I like your dry bags. Is the zipper backpack and hip pack still available. I couldn’t find them on your site.
Amazing video!! 🔥 🔥🔥
Thank you FRO! Stoked you tagged along for this one. Cheers! @@FastRackOverland
I’m a 6 generation native Texan and this is my favorite river. By far the most pristine and I pray it will stay that way. Beautiful shots yall. ❤
The devils is special! Would’ve been cool to hear from your ancestors what is was like back then. Can’t even imagine how much water would have been flowing before all of the water wells were drilled into the aquifer
@@GatewoodBrown - for real.
I'm a 5th Gen and have the exact same thoughts!
@@travis7211 what kind of fish are in there? I'd love to go snorkeling there! I'm in Northern California Feather Rivers Canyon is nice...you'd love it.... just curious I've always enjoyed snorkeling and seeing fish !
@@GatewoodBrown czcams.com/video/Kh3DRN6NP3U/video.html
I've never kayaked this but I tie off to rebar and repel down this dam there are land locked Salmon, Rainbows, Browns , Brook Trout, Large Mouth Huge Small mouth bluegills crappie etc! Spring time you can see 10 pound Rainbow trying to swim up this...they jump up the seams! It's awesome!
Sweet mother, another Gatewood Brown epic! Like finding a perfect campsite before dark. Doesn't happen that often, but when it does; life is good.
Haha what’s up OMC! Ya know this one was a massive undertaking hence the huge gap in videos. Should have more consistent uploads in the coming months. Really wanted to give this one the time it deserved since the devils is so special
@@GatewoodBrown No explanation necessary. Your vids could go a year in between and there'd just be that much more anticipation! Thanks for the inspiration my man!
@@OzarkMediaCo you’re the best. Thank you! I love uploading because of the interactions so the goal is to always have something released that sparks those conversations. Y’all are great for always showing up!
Your narration and the ways you explain how the scenery, and sheer beauty of that river makes me feel like I’m there. And your face after that first sip of coffee before you take on the day speaks so many words in its self, I’m a Avid kayak fisherman and put in almost a hundred miles every year with several over night outings in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. Our mountain rivers are right up your alley. I’ve gotten some great tips from your channel and you helped with my decision to purchase my Sportsman 120 last year and I haven’t looked back since. By the way you kayak better than your Friends! Always good fun watching buddies flip from the bottom of a rapid and catching their stuff as it passes you 😂 keep up the great work!
That’s the ultimate compliment to hear you feel like you’re there with us. That’s the goal! I’d love to spend some time out east but the further away from home starts to complicate things. I will make it work one day! You’ll be very content with the 120, it’s been my go to steed for 3 years. Haha yeah it’s fun watching them flip as long as I’m recording!
Gatewood, this was truly cinematic and likely your best work!! You guys rocked that river and it's on my list soon to conquer soon...
Thank you so much Swamp! Really means a lot to hear that you think its among the best. Lot's of editing time was spent here but really tried to convey the true story of our trip. Pretty wild place!
Man how I wish the river had been this clear when I went. A buddie and I did the whole 33 miles in 6 days. It was a trip of a lifetime, even after the last day turned into a crazy hail storm and flash flood. Thanks for sharing your stories on the rivers! been sub'd for a while and couldn't wait for this video to drop one day. the video was well worth the anticipation over the years.
Man sorry to hear y’all had a flood! The clarity really improves as you get further down river. Hail is no joke!
Keep up the incredible work. Your videos are always a blast and so well filmed and produced.
Will do Matt! We try to take our time to document everything so that the video is as complete as possible. Glad it is noticed!
what an adventure!!! Thanks for letting us all live vicariously through your videos. Some of us will never be able to do these things in the time we have left so it is just awesome to be able to experience the thrill of the adventure through the images you capture. Thank you and keep on keepin on!
Besides the incredible journey and breathtaking scenery.... the artistic quality of each video is beyond compare! Thank you for taking us along!
Hey I'll keep uploading for as long as you all continue to watch! It means so much to share these with the community. Y'all make it so fun!
Those water shots are GORGEOUS! Makes me want to head out again :D
The devils seems to be one of those places that people go back to year after year. Easy to see why!
Another amazing trip Gateway. I’ve been following you for a couple years now and enjoy every video you put out. Great content brother!!!!
Awesome video and thank you for highlighting the devils river. It’s one of my favorite places in the state.
Absolutely EPIC! Both the scenery and your storytelling!
Thank you! Really tried to do this trip justice with the edit. So much happened but that setting makes for a target rich shooting environment!
A beautiful three dsy river run ,with some epic 😎 editting 👌.
Thanks for having us along 😀.
Greetings from England 🇬🇧 Simon and Beth ❤❤❤
Greetings and thank you for tuning into a Texas adventure. Stoked to have you along for the ride!
I legit had no idea that Texas had these beautiful spring fed rivers, no idea! I've seen the Rio Grande, and I just assumed that's what all the rivers looked like in Texas; dry, muddy & stagnant. I'm shook over the beauty of this river, what a treat to be able to enjoy it. Thanks for sharing the footage!
Yeah! Texas has one of the more diverse geographies of any state. Pretty cool to put our rivers on the map and show it in a fun manner. You should do this river one day!
Always such epic cinematography... Watching in awe of what's possible!
Thank you so much! It’s fun to build the videos and see what kind of footage I captured afterwards
Exciting, pure, clean river, it's awesome in this place.
That was the most beautiful run. The colors of the canyons and water was so incredible. What a journey! Glad yall made it work out :)
Thank you so much! Definitely a wild array of color in an arid place. So much fun!
Amazing video. That time lapse at the end, I could watch that all day
Haha thank you! The night lapses are always so cool to capture. Makes for good scenery if you’re having trouble sleeping too
I've never done kayaking. But I have three generations behind me. An 8 year old, 3&2. Your vids are very motivational and inspiring. You're opening a while new realm for me and my boys. We are right behind you, following your footsteps to make our own. Thank you
Mr Brown-what a hell of a trip! That river throws some of everything at you! AWESOME scenery and gorgeous water! You usual filming expertise in on point! Thanks for taking us on this awesome journey. Noticed some new items in your Remote Designs line-I’m going to go on line and check it all out.
Thanks again for shredding it!

Thank you for always watching curt! I’m just now starting to catch up with comments so apologies on that! This devils river is pretty special man. Hope you’ve been well!

Just watched on my big screen. Amazing job telling the story. Love what you do! 👏
Thank you Dan! Doing our best to show the reality of kayak camping trips. Mostly great but never without tribulations.
Awesome job!! Definitely worth the wait. The Devils is on my radar for the near future.
Mr dangler himself! Yeah man you’d love it out there and I’m sure you’d put up some serious numbers on the catch counter. Tons of fish out there
Epic adventure! Looks like that Old Town was the most stable of the group. Can’t wait for the next video!
I'd say so. The Jackson is pretty stable but very wide. I'd take the old town out of them all!
I loved watching this whole thing. Great soundtrack. Everything about this is really good.
Thank you for watching it all! Happy that you were able to enjoy the trip through our lens. Such a special place!
Wow that river look real deep!.on picture I don't see the bottom of the river. That's a amazing adventure!...be safe...🙃👍🤩🐻🐼😎😎

Epic indeed! You have to do it man. So up your alley! Plus tons of fish to target
There's something to be said for a lack of fear and common sense. Reminds me of my younger self. Awesome adventures.
Oh to be young and dumb!
That looked amazing GB. What a blast.
Thank you CCC! It was a blast and definitely a spot we want to return to
Fantastic! That Dagger Katana would have loved that river!
Cheers! The katana would’ve had some fun for sure. 99% of folks do sit on tops out here. I don’t think we Texans know what a whitewater boat is haha
Such a sick trip! You captured it perfectly 🔥
Thanks my dude!
What a fantastic film! Thank you!
What a ridiculously beautiful landscape. I've never heard of this river before, it's stunning.
It is brilliant! Didn't know it existed until my twenties. How wild!
How I wish i could manage such a trip!
❤ Love your videos!
You can! Go with a good group and you’ll be in good hands
This video is truly amazing! Definitely my dream river to do a float trip on!
We gotta float it together! So many fish species to target too. Its tough though since everything looks fishy.
One day I'll get there! Great video Gatewood!
Thank you!! Stoked you got a look at what Texas has to offer! We need to be on your next tour haha
love your content, Gatewood. Amazing to see the wild side of Texas.

Thank you so much for the kind words! Sometimes I live vicariously through the old videos lol
Stumbled upon this and loved every minute!
Thanks Ethan! Means a lot my man!
Man another epic journey. Bro I used the 60L bag I got from you this past weekend on a Kayak trip and it performed flawlessly. Also just ordered the new backpack. Thanks so much for making these products, they made the trip so much better for me. This river looked amazing by the way
Dude so stoked the duffel worked for you!! I saw that backpack order come through and shot it your way. Thank you so much for ordering all the gear, it's what makes these trips happen. Cheers to that! Getting out on the river is what its all about
Beautiful drone shots. What a trip!
Thank you for the kind words!
This video was a masterclass piece. Enjoyed it thoroughly.
That’s so kind, thank you!!
Amazing place! Awesome vid! Hopefully you'll get to some more before summer is up!
Thank you so much! We’ve been busy kayaking but editing takes awhile so lord trips inbound soon! Trying to get one uploaded tomorrow
The best five days of my life. The old town 120 didnt flip once, didn't lose a thing. He was really brave trusting a pelican down the DR, we put a baseball size hole in a jackson on day 2. If you go back do the full river til it turns into the lake there is some cool sites down there and some caves. Can't wait going back in 2024 for 8 days on the river. Love the video and the new products, gonna put this druffle to the test when it cools down a bit.
Man 5 days would be perfect to spend out there. We had to rush but next time I'd like to take our time and fish too. That 1st time is fun though because you don't know what to expect! 8 days will be long! Dolan to the marina?
@@GatewoodBrown if I remember correctly the first put in is Bakers Crossing
@@BlueEffigy you’re right…no clue why I said Dolan lol. Bakers to the marina? Or just taking your time down to pafford? Either way that sounds amazing. Talk about getting in touch with nature, love that
@@GatewoodBrown On top of all the fun and survival. There is a whole lot of quiet time with God out there. I love to disconnect from society from time to time.
Amazing video as always! Great story telling and incredibly well produced footage. Would love to hear about some of the planning behind this one! I know the Devil’s river requires excellent preparation. Def a bucket list spot.
Just picked up a sportsman 106 second hand. Cool to see it perform in such a technical spot. Excited to get it out for an overnight trip soon.
Keep up the great work, bro!!
Thank you Zach! Ya know this was one of the few trips I went on that wasn’t planned by myself. in short, you’ll need an outfitter out here and then they’ll kind of take care of the rest. Expensive but worth it! The 106 is a fun one, enjoy! It’ll be a staple for many years to come
Your Sportsman 106 did great in those rapids! I have a 106 and 120. I've used and abused them in rough rocky water, and they always do well.
That stability came in handy quite often! Felt comfortable the whole time on that 106. I'm interested to see how a 120 would have done but I'd imagine largely similar if not a touch better. Especially during the long pools of paddling against headwinds. Agreed with you, these old towns can take some abuse!
Im impressed that you guys were able to keep a drone intact for that wild ride 🤞🏼
It's touch and go! Most exposed is the gopro mounted to the front of my kayak. If I tip and it falls off, good luck!
Some of us carry boats and gear miles into the unknown. These fellas did a river float and claim it to be wild. There's real and fake. This is bullshit. Dang! Snakes too! You must be hardcore.
Dude... your videos just keep getting more and more epic....!!!!!
Haha thanks isaac! Trying to improve with each one. Not that it’s necessary but I do enjoy trying to tell the story in a more accurate manner with each edit. Takes more time but I like it
Wow man, you make exceptional content 👏. What a beautiful but rapid full river.
Thanks man! Just trying to show the world that Texas outdoors are up there with the best!
This looks so fun, I have to try it immediately!
Get out there ASAP!
Amazing trip right there! Wow. 😍
Cheers and thank you! One of these days I will do a proper car camping trip. We've tried in the past but none as cool as yours!
In 2013, a group of my friends and I did a 14-mile canoe trip on the Colorado river in Bastrop, TX. We had a very cursory map that led us to a little island about 7 miles in, and we camped overnight. Beautiful and life changing. However, it was 4th of July, and someone was casually doing target practice with semiautomatic weapons as we floated by. We screamed, trying to get their attention, but they kept shooting. We could hear bullets whizzing past us. Freaking horrifying. I was able to get to the edge of the river under an embankment. I grabbed on to some vines in an effort to keep myself under the edge of the river bank. But of course it was poison sumac. Then I had to take 3 weeks off of work. This is the condensed version. 😊
Love the video. Long live Texas
Awesome video my man! Killed this edit!
Thank you SF! Always appreciate you watching them
Happy to see you back at it!
Back in action! Ready to bring the heat with subsequent videos too. This one took a ton of time but I didn't want to rush anything and compromise the story. Really tried to do it justice.
Beautiful country! The water reminds me of the Nueces River from my youth. I know these sit-on-top kayaks are all the rage, but a proper canoe with some basic paddling skills would get you, and all the gear you need, down river in one piece.
Indeed! The nueces is more clear but the devils has more fun rapids. Probably better scenery too. However I think my overall favorite is the Frio when it’s running
That old town is damn near un-tippable! Spectacular video!
That’s what it felt like! Made me wonder if having a stable platform like the old town is better than something that has better paddling but worse stability. This 106 felt planted in those rapids!
@@GatewoodBrown I'm considering taking my 120 pdl out on the Missouri River. Seeing how stable yours is in rapids makes me feel better about taking on the mighty mo
@@CatfishCody I’m unfamiliar with the Mo but can definitely attest to the stability of old towns 120 and 106! I got lucky with a few good lines through rapids too
Loved every second of it❤
Thank you so much!!
I visited that area of Texas once. My main takeaway was admiration for the pioneers that crossed that land on foot or horseback. They had to be some tough, hard individuals. Hats off.
I can’t believe they made it work!! Some rugged country basically everywhere hha
Floating the Buffalo in May but this river looks like so much fun and it's beautiful.
Great video and me and my Old Town will hopefully get there one day.
I may do the Buffalo in April since Texas is dry right now!
Amazing as always!
Thank you for always watching the videos!!!
Great video!!! I need to get out there. I'm not far - in Kerrville. Very well done. Enjoy your videos!
Kerrville is just right around the corner! The Texas Hill Country is wonderful. Cheers to that!
Man, I think that’s your best video yet! Just picked up a Vibe Sea Ghost 130. Looking forward to getting it into some rapids soon. We just need some rain here in Texas!
Thank you Joe! Means a lot to hear that and I kind of agree. Had a lot of material to use for this video and felt like it all came together in the edit. Really big shoutout to the guys on the trip being cool with me shoving a camera in their face haha.
Beautiful river!
I totally agree!
We paddled the devils a few years ago in the spring and will be doing it again this November. We bypassed the paddlers camps as well, they weren’t nice at all. Our favorite campsite was at the bottom of three tiers in the left.
Nice video…I’ve been fishing the Devils river since the 60’s and it never disappoints. In 1972 we canoed from Dolan falls to Rough Canyon marina. Quite the trip.
That’s a long trip! I’ve heard it gets really shallow below pafford
Maaaan, that whole section where you got the thumbnail picture from is so ridiculously cool! What an awesome river... but also, lol all these sit-on-top fishing kayaks flipping immediately in the rapids was quite funny. Push your feet into them braces and paddle hard to keep balanced, my dudes! I swear half the shots in this video of the other guys was them NOT in their kayaks, after starting to tip and grabbing onto their kayak in panic hahaha
Yes! We call is the canyon and just so blown away by how it looks. Like....that is real??? so crazy that a river can look like that. So funny but youre right, the dudes spent some serious time off the kayaks lol!
Key tip I learned the hard way many years ago, never try to out paddle the rapids you can not. Simple stick the oar on the side you want to turn and hold that's it. It looked like you guys might have got that down it looked like.
Ran the Devil's in May of this year, the water was a foot and a half lower than shown in your video. It was a beautiful 4 day 3 night excursion that after years is finally off my to do list.
We were just there in July. We have a Ranch west of Rocksprings, so we are close to the Devil's River. Beautiful doesn't quite do it justice!
Great shots!
Thank you!!
i want to go there so bad. glad to see your content again
You should my man! You’d really enjoy it
Gatewood does it again, making me think i need to go on a kayakin adventure
Thanks my Dude! I’m thinking another Jurassic kayak adventure is definitely in order. Always love watching your edits!
Nothing like cracking a huge mango white claw after a day of hard work on the river. Cheers!
Another amazing video! I wish I could do that stuff.
Thank you so much cliff!
Another awesome video, the drone work is particularly noteworthy!
Also, I'm glad to see that you wear your pfd even in shallow rivers. You can't control anyone else of course, but it only takes a little water for things to go very wrong! Though I might recommend the guy with the class 1 orange upgrades to something actually safe even if he doesn't plan to use it haha
You'll always find me wearing a PFD! I'd feel naked without one haha. I always recommend it but we are adults so everyone is welcome to do as they please just as you said. Good call on upgrading the class 1 vest!
Always love a new upload!
Hey cheers to that!!
00:20 Wow.. amazing drone shot! Love the color of the water juxtaposed against the Texas desert!
The drone really does that scenery justice. Incredible place!

Beautiful video brother!!! You’re making me want to go to Texas and try to do that. Not sure I could handle it though.👊🏼
Haha you totally got this! Not much overlanding to be done but wait til summer is over. It's a scorcher!
Another cinematic masterpiece! Your editing never ceases to amaze and give us that experience as if we were actually there. Now, how much of a beating did your yak take at the end of the trip?
Thank you! And apologies for the late reply. Ya know we had enough water to where this one wasn’t too hard on the kayaks. Just the bodies! Haha
I snorkel in a few spots and have pulled out a lot of gold. I think around 3 ounces total from that river. I use a small snuffer bottle to grab the gold flakes. In the middle and to the north there is a couple dry river beds that feed gold into the main river during rainstorms. So after a big rain is the best time to go. Gold flakes are pretty small but in the clear water they are easily seen.
Very interesting!
That's some beautiful country!
It's incredible out there! And seemingly out of nowhere too which is cool.
Great video per usual!!
Thanks my dude!
Ill be setting off for my first MR340 tomorrow.
