- The Martians re-group and head towards London, destroying artillery and utilising the "Black Smoke" to poison anyone in their way. Chapter 6 of my animated serialisation of "The War of the Worlds" sees the narrator escape from burning WEYBRIDGE and head down river to WALTON where he teams up with a curate, but then encounters 7 Tripods laying waste to the land. The narrator and his new companion take refuge in HALLIFORD while the tripods head towards RICHMOND ON THAMES and beyond. Coming next in 2024: The Thunderchild!

It’s almost disturbing how much of the original story can act as an allegory for ww1. The absurdly fast mechanization of warfare, with men on horseback fighting against steel behemoths crawling over a land choked with poison gas.
All that from a book written nearly twenty years prior to the great war
I had a feeling that a new part was imminent!
Once again a fantastic entry, with all those nice little changes you put in to help the story flow and provide some freshness.
The facial animation technique you use is very effective, even uncanny.
Wonderful how you pay attention to even the more obscure details of Correa's art and find ways to keep them in your recreations.
Can't wait to be amazed by what you eventually gift us with next!

Many thanks for your kind comments as usual. I'm glad you notice (and appreciate) some of the details I include. The next instalment will include the mass exodus from London and the Thunderchild sequence. Interesting piece of trivia: It was thought that Wells based his ship on the only battle-ram utilised by the Royal Navy, "HMS Polyphemus". However, that ship had only one funnel, not two as Wells described. A more likely candidate is the "Tordenskjold", an ironclad from the Danish navy. This ship was named after the Danish nobleman Peter Tordenskjold whose nickname was "Thundershield"! That's the vessel I will be modelling.

I love this. I'm thoroughly amused how much I like the tripods. I first saw the in the illustrations from an early edition of the book. I no longer care that they look like the tops of water towers with eyes.

I really wish someone would make War of the Worlds Video game. You can play both Survival mode as the humans, and battle mode as the Tripods. And get to choose which model/version of Tripods to play as.

Your animations are very much in the style of the original illustrated book, yet at the same time offer more detail. I've lived in Weybridge for 50 years so know all the locations including those down the river to London very well (albeit in their 20th and 21st century form) Your representations look very convincing. Do you know the areas well yourself. Did you do research? Thank you so much, I very much look forward to the remaining Chapters.

I love this very much, I see you’ve improved on your Civillian Clothing since the 4th installment and looks very nice, I love to see the Curate done in such a horrifying and insane way. However, I still see that your Soldiers Uniform are in Boer-War style, which is a khaki uniform and a pith helmet, the British Foot Soldier for the late 1800s had a red uniform with white webbing and a picklehaube style black and gold helmet, and the Artilleryman spotted a blue uniform and a blue and red soft cap, with little webbing, only their belt. You can find pictures easily on the internet, I’m not disrespecting your animation here I think you’ve done a great job, but it’s just a small inaccuracy I think a lot of people would make since the Boer War in South Africa was in action around the time the War of the Worlds is set. Again I love your animation and I think you’ve done a great job.
Sorry if I’m over obsessing this or nerding out, just wanted the information to be known, if he reads this comment or not.
Many thanks for your interest and kind comments. I did research the soldiers' uniforms from the era and decided on the Boer War style uniform as being very recognisable as "Victorian". A bit of artistic license!

Yes, thanks. The illustration of the Tripods being disassembled by the Londoners shows a circular hatch in the front, between the eyes and below the rod which sticks out of the head. Another illustration (one of the smaller sketches within the text of the book) shows a circular hatch to one side of the head. My narrative needed a hatch in the front and it fitted better in the body. Who's to say there weren't several hatches. Many thanks for your interest.
I suspect Wells would be equally impressed & proud of this had he seen it in a 1920s silent cinema...

Hi Kevin. I love what you are doing, and I've enjoyed all of your videos!
I don't know if you are aware of my channel or not, but we're kind of doing totally different takes on the same thing in a semi similar way. There's a whole long story about why I ended up doing mine (started as a theatre production), and when I put up the first few clips, I didn't even know that The War of the Worlds had such a big dedicated following. I think I found your videos a few months after I started.
I worried about stepping on your toes a bit, but after a while I realised that we have such a different take and tone, that I don't think I should have worried, and it's great that both exist. So, I'm really just commenting to tip my hat to you and say hi.
Are you still using Lightwave? If so, mine is made with Lightwave too! You might have moved on to Blender, but it looks like Lightwave to me.
I was talking about your vids to one of my commentators the other day, and thought that maybe once we're both finished our respective stories, we could do a crossover and make our Tripods battle :) Especially if we both use Lightwave, it'd be quite funny.

Hi, Thank you for your kind comments. Sorry to have not replied earlier - been building the Thunderchild which has taken some time and hadn't checked my YT channel. Yes I still use Lightwave. I'm too old to start with Blender to get to the same level as LW and even with LW I feel I have only scratched the surface. Good to hear that it is back in development and soon to specifically utilise Apple Macs. I'd like to know what other programs you use. I must say, I really like your films - very atmospheric and imaginative. And yes, a totally different take on the story. I don't know why I haven't seen them come up in my searches.
I suppose my "thing" is sticking to the book as closely as possible and recreating the action in the places referred to. I live near Woking, so visiting Horsell Common and the surrounding area to get photographic reference has been easy. I use old maps to lay out the villages and the London scenes and try to follow closely the journeys made by the narrator or his brother (eg the trip from Regent's Park to Waterloo Station). There is a huge WOTW fanbase out there and there are some who clearly love the book and appreciate my attention to the detail within it. Thanks for making contact - a collaboration at some time would be most interesting, but I think your tripods would knock spots off my spindly machines!!
@@kevinmccullen1 Love it! So you're kind of living it on location! :D It's funny how nerdy it all gets lol. The research and plotting is probably one of the most fun parts. Using old maps for it must be great! Weirdly, knowing you're doing a version which is sticking closely to the book allows me to stray a fair bit more, because I know that if that is what a person is wanting, then I know it's right here and I don't have to feel guilty about letting anyone down. (I've had a few comments complaining when I stray from the book). But with yours, I think you'll be making them very happy and you're doing a great job. #
The fact that both versions are being made in Lightwave makes me even happier and is quite the strange coincidence really!
As for what I use, I don't really use much outside of Lightwave, Photoshop and Davinci Resolve.
Like yourself, I'm a bit of a stickler for using Lightwave too. It's like old faithful. I know I can get everything done I need to, whether I have to do a little extra work here or there, or less as the case may be. And yes, very glad it's back in development.
For music and sound I use an old program called Orion, as well as Cakewalk with various VSTs Ive collected over the years. But I do a lot of sound recording too with a portable player.
If we did do a collab, then it'd have to be funny. I think. The difference in their posturing and demeanour would be funny to see. I think it'd require the right idea and a bit of a high concept (or a good contextual joke). I'll keep it in the back of my head while I work, and if you come up with anything, let me know! In the meantime, I expect we both have our work cut out for us. Can't wait to see your Thunderchild take! That's the one everyone wants :D I've had so many people asking about it, so I know you'll get lots of views on that one!
By the way, if ever you need a model of something (to save a few days of modelling), please do email me and I'll see what I've got. I've got so much stuff from over the years, and if I can help I always will. I sometimes find it frustrating to have to model complex things that only appear in 1 shot. So the offer is there should you need it. Can't guarantee I will have what you are looking for of course, but I'm always worth a shot! I've worked on a really wide range of things over the years, and have all kinds of odds and sods.

Many thanks to you and all those who comment. I am working on Chapter 7, but it is big. It covers the exodus from London, my brother rescuing 2 ladies from ruffians and ultimately the Thunder Child sequence. A lot of models to build, huge crowds and big explosions. I have also been upgrading my computer system so it can cope, and refurbishing my studio. Plus Lightwave 3D has had a long awaited upgrade. It may be a couple of months before I can get the next episode out there. Sorry!
