    • @justsomemustachewithoutaguy-
      @justsomemustachewithoutaguy- Před 3 lety +59

      Women at a disadvantage... Not really by much though... Although males are much more common and have a much higher chance to be picked by a team in racing doesn't necessarily mean that a woman would be at a disadvantage when it comes to pace since well pace isn't really determined by gender and there are women out there who can outperform and outpace men by a long shot, sure they got a slight disadvantage when it comes to body composition like larger breasts which poses risks when it comes to crashes or interference with safety stuff, different body proportions i.e. waistline, less bulkier body and wider hips that adds a slight hindrance when it comes to racing and pace but not by much since a woman can make up for that in more ways than one, for example they have twomain advantages over men, they are overall lighter and much smaller which means they won't be hindered that much by those two factors, they are more likely to get picked by a team if the female driver performs well since she may be considered as a marketing trick, and the press might be interested aswell since female drivers are daughter after now cause they want to expand diversity in conclusion though, being a female racing driver and a male racing driver isn't really any different from each other

    • @justsomemustachewithoutaguy-
      @justsomemustachewithoutaguy- Před 3 lety +33

      But if we were talking about Carmen jorda... She doesn't have any excuse tbh... She got abysmal pace, her body doesn't have the hindrances I mentioned such as big breasts, waistline differences compared to men of her size, when you look at physical stats she is usually the same weight as her teammates which would mean she's most likely overweight for her height (not in medical terms I meant in terms of team mates). so yeah she's basically just an actual terrible driver and has nothing to do with the fact that she's a woman

    You dont need extra racing series only for women
    You only need two things: Women that understand that if they are not good enough to accept it
    and second: Women that can actually drive badass instead of ones for marketing reasons.

      to be honest, w series is also to open the doors and inspire young girls to take up karting as kids. not to seperate girls and men for f1. bc that's also a problem. if the talent pool is big enough you will have some at some point reach f1. but the talent pool for f1 isn't that big.
      hence the purpose of w series. inspire young girls to take up karting specifically for reaching f1 one day.

      @@Pandatoofu Representation is important and I think Lynn is trying to say that if young girls have no famous women to look up to in racing then it's important to try and make those names for them. Racing is an equal opportunity sport yet that doesn't seem to be the case in F1, and that's just the simple fact that not as many women are in racing. If they see women in racing when they're young, they're more likely to take up the sport.
      When Canada and USA started promoting their women's soccer teams just as much as their men's soccer teams they saw a massive boost in the rankings of their teams. The reason was because it got more girls in to soccer, and thus the countries had more potential talent to pull from. There's actually been a ton of studies done on their increased promotion on their women's teams and the benefits it had to the sport league as a whole.
      The W Series doesn't really have any drawbacks and creates said representation for young girls. And if it creates another potential feeder league for F1? Then great. But it's also something that if you don't want it, you don't have to watch it and let those who are looking forward to it to enjoy it.

      Between 1998 & 2001 I worked for a company (as an automation & robotics engineer) where the boss owned a Formula Holden Team. It was an Australian category using second hand F3000 cars but with a locally sourced 3.8l V6. Scott Dixon (of Indy Cars) won the Championship in 1998.
      In my boss's team the drivers had to BRING at least $200k for a season with 8-10 Rounds. He eventually got a 2nd hand V8 Supercar for the B-category and that cost over $400K a year for the driver to bring. His F-Holden cars were available for a weekend at about $30K for one offs. A test day could be anywhere from $10-40K depending on how many laps and how many drivers were at the test and which track they were using - all those costs add up.
      I was actually at the round (Oran Park) where Scott Dixon secured his championship. Helmut Marko (Le Mans winner & Red Bull advisor) flew that weekend to watch one of our drivers Marcus Friesacher (older brother of Patrick Friesacher who drove F1). We had Marcus for 1/2 the 1988 season when he was sponsored by Red Bull as a development driver (interesting times).
      MOST MOTOR SPORT Including F1 the driver PAYS the team for the seat outright or their sponsors pay for the seat. Motor sport is a business way more than it is a sport and has been for decades. Only a handful of drivers at the very front (because they are that good) get paid by a team to drive their car. In those rare cases the team usually goes to their sponsors for the funding.
      One of the super important things for all young drivers is to learn how to raise money from sponsors. A lot of talented drivers never learn that thinking talent alone will get them there and NO IT DOESN'T.
      So if you have every wondered why some apparently poor drivers get ahead while talented ones fade away - it really is a matter of money.

      I've always wondered what Simona DeSilvestro could do in an actually competitive car, since she has driven cars to places where they had absolutely no business being in, like when she was driving woefully underpowered Lotus engines in IndyCar and didn't finish last. I'm excited to see what she can do this weekend at the Indy 500, since her car is the Juncos chassis that bumped Fernando Alonso from the race and it's also being prepared by Team Penske

      Yeah, I don't really like hearing her and danica in the same breath. As the above comment says, Simona has driven poor cars to excellent results, whereas Danica has often gotten below average results for the very best teams. Unfortunately this is probably once again down to Danica simply being more marketable. Hopefully it isn't too late for Simona to get the top ride she deserves...

    Honestly Josh you should make a video about Eliška Junková because she is prime example of how good a woman can be when she uses her brain more than her muscles. Not only that she raced against men, she gained their respect while racing. Men like Divo, Chiron and even Ettore Bugatti himself. She almost won Targa Florio 1928 race. 7 hours long race. In a car without powersteering, with wooden board on the floor so she could reach the accelerator (she accelerated with her toe not the whole feet) and pillows behind and under her so she could reach the steering wheel. She finished 15 minutes behind winner Divo in the fifth place. The only other woman on grid baroness von Einsiedel finished full 1 hour behind Divo. It's really shame that she is forgotten. So please Josh make video about her and remind the world about the Queen of the wheel.
