      @@ayaebony4461 That's not true for everything though. Cereal grain products are commonly fortified with vitamins, and have been since the 40s, in an effort to prevent malnourishment. There are plenty of processed foods that are good for calories and carbs and not much more, but there are plenty that are full of vitamins, minerals, and protein, as well.
      It's important to read the package, and consider your eating habits, and ensure that your daily needs are met. But it's also important to foster a healthy relationship with food, and that means not viewing any food as inherently bad. It might not be what you need right now, or maybe it doesn't fit with your body's needs at all, so you avoid it.

    The best advice came from a book when I was a pre-teen, and it echos in my head to this day: "eat when you are hungry, and stop when you are full". Beyond that, I usually try to work off what I'm craving. And since I'm not a big fruit person, I opt for 100% fruit juice as the next best thing. I don't pretend to have the "best" food choices, but I also decided a long time ago I wasn't interested in micromanaging my food unnecessarily.

    • @MusicalBotany
      @MusicalBotany Pƙed rokem +46

      Either I've never been good at recognizing hunger and satiety cues, or my body doesn't produce them correctly... Either way, for someone who struggles with eating when full and stopping when hungry, I'd highly recommend leaning into the *enjoyment* of cooking and eating a good meal. If you are excited to eat the things you like, you're less likely to skip and/or forget meals, which can help to prevent binge-eating later in the day. To prevent overeating at mealtime, try starting with smaller portions and going back if you still feel hungry. There is something to be said about the psychology of a clean plate and satiety... So it makes to add less food to a smaller plate and go back if you need it. :) Just sharing what has worked for me.

      I have a tip for cravings. Eat what you crave, but eat slowly and enjoy every single bite as much as you can. Soon your taste receptors will be satisfied and you might be stuffed with just a few bites of your dessert. The reason we always have room for dessert is cuz of cravings. When you eat slowly and really enjoy it, you usually don't feel the need to eat all of it anymore.

Its better to chew your food rather than drink it. Unless of course there is a medical issues requiring one to drink mostly liquids. I dont think a smoothie here and there is bad for you though. Intermittent fasting is essentially what I was doing as a teen trying to heal her eating disorder.
    I would not eat at school or on the morning. And had clubs after school almost every day so I wouldn’t eat until dinner. But every time I would be starving and actually gain more weight when I do eat healthier because my body is used to the, “SAVE ALL THE FAT AND NUTRITION FOR WHEN SHE TORTURES US AGAIN”.
    And now that I’m eating healthier as in, listening to my body and giving it what it needs and learning how much makes me feel good. And if it’s a lot, that just means my body really needs it. And that’s okay.
    An eating disorder never fully goes away but you can learn how to not feel as guilty and crappy when you do eat.
    My dad would say to me, “food for the body is like gas to a gas-ran car. When the gas runs out, the cat stops moving and working. Same with your body and food. So eat your dinner, you had a hard day. Fuel yourself, Ann.”
    He was a big part that kept me alive through the worst of my eating disorder.

UK consumers buy the most ultra processed food in Europe, and guess what the UK has the worst level of obesity in Europe, and in the US it's even more. Nothing is bad for you if you have it once in a while, from time to time, but when you load up on ultra processed crap that lack important nutrients (vitamins, minerals, protein, fibre etc) all the time that's where there's a problem

Yet, look at our food culture! Fast food and processed crap is cheap and abundantly available. We all KNOW what the basic answer is, but our lifestyles don't reflect the choice to implement it

      I personally don't like using the word processed as much because processed foods include cheese, a well chopped salad, homemade bread, and fruit salad, not just chips, cookies, and fruit roll up. The food people mean by processed actually means ultra processed and that's when you start adding in stuff like extra sugar which is fine in moderation like everything else. From my courses in nutrition, it's best to eat items that are or combined with whole foods as much as you can without being strict on your eating habits. It's also very important to go to a doctor and a nutritionist as most doctors do not update their information on nutrition, with some not knowing much about it. Doctors can evaluate your health and a nutritionist or dietician can assist in telling you the food groups you may need more of or less of.

    I do small frequent meals, but that’s honestly just because that’s how my body specifically works best. It’s not because I heard it’s good for you. It’s because I snack all day, whether I eat meals or not. I used to get in trouble all the time for ruining my appetite, but I’d just end up bingeing at meals and still be hungry for snacks anyway. After years of trying different diets, I finally just decided to stop eating meals. I’m no longer overweight, and my doctor says I’m plenty healthy. I guess if you were going to label the way I eat, it would be intuitive eating. I eat what I’m hungry for when I’m hungry. Different people have different ideal eating habits ❀

    I completely ignored diet culter and went for siance drastically redused my sugar consumption quickly put on 6kgs then lost 12kgs now I’m just struggleing to get rid of the last 9kgs (I personaly couldn’t care less if I’m fat but I need to be a ceritan bmi for a surgery) I mostly just follow what my body wants which is protein most of the time and one meal per day and everyone always goes on about how unhealthy it is and I’m like my body just wants consistantsy cos if I’m inconsistent it will go into food storage mode if I’m not it knows it will get feed every day. I can not manage to be consistent if I try to have muiltpal meals unless someone else is makeing them for me
    Moral of the store is to pick ya battles and do what works for you :)

    Make sure you cover all the necessary nutrients that you need on a daily basis like carbs, vitamins, and minerals. Have the rest (fats, proteins, etc) whenever you can because your body tends to store them. As long as you cover the basics you are free to experiment and eat what you want. Everything is healthy in the right amount.
