Just an FYI, as of 6+ months ago you CANNOT "cast" to sonos from android. There is a patent dispute between Sonos and Google so the latter removed the functionality.

@@mariusk5985 The iphones have no problem casting to sonos devices. They support airplay.

I Just got a Sonos play 1 from garage sale and its a great sound system. Saw the comments below about playing it streaming issue with the cast but I don't seem to be having that issue. I installed Sonos app on one phone for initial setup, tried casting from it and it worked - then I tried using another phone to play music without the Sonos app, I'm streaming it fine using the cast feature playing Spotify.

On my iPhone I was playing my Apple Music to
My Sono through cast and then accidentally unchecked it. Now Sonos doesn’t show up in my cast. Do you have a fix? Thanks!
I'm not a user of Apple Music but I know that some service are no longer available to cast on Sonos.
Howerver with Apple Music I'm pretty sure you could try to airplay it.
Otherwise it's probably just a reboot thing.
You should still be able to do it.
Thank you for your reply. I messed around with it and I somehow made it appear again…not sure how! So now I can cast from my music app instead of in my Sonos app.
This only seems to work with Apple but not on Android phones.
When I press on cast it only shows other devices but not my Sonos

A recent update to the Google home assistant means you can't do this anymore. Gutted.

It's pretty good for the price but they need to upgrade on the speaker quality

Here in April 2024 I am having trouble ‘casting’ to my Play:1 directly from CZcams Music app. It works to my Sonos from Spotify App and it works in YT Music app to my boyfriend’s Play 1. I feel like YT music is now compatable to cast (it wasn’t when this video was published). Would you agree? Why is it not showing up for me in YT Music when I try to cast? I hate Sonos and this is my last one haha.
Yes it seam that fewer service and castable to Sonos.
You can use it directly from the Sonos app howerver.
But I understand that this might not be the solution you were looking for.
Spotify is the app that is the most castable to any device.

Yes after setup you can pair multiple bluetooth phones.

Airplay does affect but casting will give you the best quality.
Because casting is basically sending a link to a device so it can read the same thing that you phone from the internet.
Thanks for the video. My phone recognises the Sonos devices but pairing seems to be protected with a code. From my iPhone, when I click on the cast button (AirPlay), and then on one of the Sonos devices that appear, I am asked for a pairing code. How can I find this code?
That's strange. I never see that... Oh! I think there is a setting into the sonos menu to enable a protection.
You must accidently enable it.
As far as I can tell this only works with Apple devices - which I don't have/want. The list of available channels within the Android/Windows version of the app is pitiful. Would really appreciate advice about how to get a sound system like this without having to mess with Apple products which I loathe.

From my Android phone I CANNOT cast to my Sonos speakers from the CZcams Music app. Spotify allows me to connect to my Sonos speakers directly from the Spotify app, but CZcams Music has no equivalent feature. Atrocious.
I could do exactly what you've explained until 3 days ago, but suddenly something went wrong and I cant fix it, so I really am more comfortable with no sonos app, how do I fix my only speaker?!
It can be a lot of thing.

Nope. Cast is made for online media. Basically it send the audio link to the device for it to play.

I have a sonos move and I can't cast from my smartphone, in the app either from youtube, yotubue music (they are the only ones I use because I have a premium subscription) no matter how many times I press the cast button, my sonos move does not appear on the list. It's the only sonos device I have in my home and it's a disappointment not being able to cast directly from the app without having to open the sonos app! Help!
I think some service are no longuer compatible to be cast. On my side I use spotify and everything goes well.
Im not able to find my sonos one SL with the cast button.. i can play music thru my one SL with the sonos app. But it doesnt show as a 'cast option'. How do i fix this?

As I know the Sonos one SL doesn't support cast. The same as it doesn't support alexa/google assistant.

Hi, I have Samsung S20fe phone and no jack for line out. I have Sonos and plug my laptop into Play 5 speaker to get music to play against. Now, problem as phone has no input for jack. The application is IReal Pro No casting in the app any ideas?

Cast is not an app. It's a logo that will show on compatible services, for compatible devices.
I could not get cast to work but I did add sonos to google home app and now I am able to say "OK Google play Song on sonos" and it works, but still dont have option for cast.
I think cast become less and less compatible with some service on Sonos.

i have a Sonos Beam and two Sonos one speakers . Up until 6-8 weeks ago I could use Airplay to send music from my iphone to the Beam then onto the other two Sonos One speakers. Now all I see on my iphone is the Sonos Beam . The other two Sonos One speakers are no longer available. I have a large amount of music on my iphone, can you help / advise ?
Hi John. Air play is probably the less stable streaming media I know. What you describe is it's biggest problem. Rebooting the sonos devices and/or the phone may solve your problem. But technically you could send airplay to the beam an play it to the other sonos speaker as well.
I just have 2 Sonos sl, with a dumb tv and dumb soundbar. I want to use sonos one sl as extra speakers. Other tv has a Apple TV, so I can air play with that to Sonos what is one tv. Will google chrome cast or roku do the same? Not sure I want to spend another $150 in Apple TV at this point.
Hib Rob. You need a playbar, playbase or a beam to connect your tv to your sonos speakers. However if you have a analog output on your TV, you may see that video that explain how to connect it : czcams.com/video/JGhTcgMxCEk/video.html
However, in each case, you need a new device.

I am using Play 1s, these speakers are not listed in "Cast devices" in iPhone as you mentioned, what am I missing.
Also, I do have Sonos Connect. Can I cast music to Connect from iPhone / Android Phone ?
I did some test yesterday that not all services are compatible to cast to Sonos. For exemple CZcams Music is not compatible but Google play music is.

I have 2 Sonos Play 1 speakers and they are connected to the same network as my phone and still I do not see the Sonos speakers come up as options under the cast option 😕

Well for sure you need to be connected on the same network to cast something.
But it's possible that you can't cast it if the app is not suported by Sonos.
I don't see sonos as an option when I select the cast button through my CZcams app
I mostly use the sonos app, but it seam to be a comon error acording to the comment. I will work on a video about this.

I can say that it actually work with spotify, but I think they reduce the quantity of compatible services for cast.
Is is louder without the sonus app or if I use the sonus app it is louder ?
It might have a difference depending on the source. But the sound quality should be better over the Sonos app as bluetooth do compress signal.

I believe yes. Casting was working before S2 for spotify.

I don't see the point of having a bluetooth speaker at home seriously. Fun for outside, but not inside. I'm happy to not pay any extra to get that fonction that I would not use.

It mean Spotify can't see your sonos system on the network.

Salut Fabrice. Hum. Ça complique beaucoup les choses sans-Wi-Fi. J'ai déjà fait quelques installation sans Wi-Fi. Ça prend au moins un haut-parleur branché avec un fil au routeur et on peu controller à partir d'un ordinateur branché au même routeur, avec l'application Sonos.
Mais si tu recherche un bon haut-parleur Sonos pour ton téléphone, je te recommande celui-ci : geni.us/SonosMove

All I can say is fu CZcams for requiring a subscription to play music on sonos that I bought from Google .
Seriously I think CZcams premium is a very affordable price to listen music all day long and skip Advertising on CZcams. I'm glad to pay for it.

When you do a mobile hotspot, you create a wi-fi network with the real poor router that is your phone. That does not look like a great idea.

No you can (and you should) make work an entire sonos network from a single network port. Sonos will create it's own network. But you need a network that is for sure. I really regret buying two of the Sonos Play 1s. Just let me play my audio the way I want to play it, why they gotta make everything so locked down.
I don't feal lockdown with Sonos. Just use the Sonos App and everything you need from any music services is inside.
@@HowToPM you might not feel locked doen cause you only use the supported streaming services. But what if you're trying to use an app that isn't supported by the Sonos app or listen to a voicemail or want call audio to come through the speaker instead of your phone. You can argue that these are rare use cases but as a consumer who paid for the product, I should be able to use it how I want.
@@ZachDxn when you use the Sonos app, you never get any trouble because your phone receive a call or something like that. The music keep playing at all time. Sonos is built to play music from music services. And this is very well done because it is the only system that have every music app built in into it's own app. If this is not what you want to do, Sonos is just not the right product for you.

I understand most people only use Sonos for music but somebody may want to use their speaker without having to use the app, myself included. Just saying.
@@ZachDxn well you will probably run through the same kind of issues with many other speakers. If you want to look a video you will need a soundbar connected to your TV. Otherwise it's just not made for that.

You need a network to make Sonos work. It can be wired or wi-fi but you need a network.

Instead of Google Play Music, please show us how to do that on CZcams Music.

guys first of all im not tech savvy so please don't blame me...but .....Sonos sucks. i just purchased the Sonos Arc SL and I cant stream/play audio from my android phone nor my windows laptop. after speaking to customer care rep, he told me everything has to and must go through the "Sonos App". whats their goal here, one pays so much for a premium soundbar to be faced this issue. im returning it tomorrow . shit im pissed -at that son of a gun at the store who told me "wifi is better than bluetooth". i also don't understand why Sono "fan boys" brag so much about sound quality and blah blah blah and we can't even get the audio to work with the damn thing hahahahahaha. in my opinion "Looks can be Deceiving" and htis case it Is.
I mostly use the Sonos app to control the zones volume and group.
Otherwise I use Sonos over my Spotify app.
Cause yes of course, bluetooth come with a compression.
