So I accidentally turned my #SonosOne into a #soundbar because I wasn't really looking for one. I had an old Sony soundbar that... okay, it sucked, but I still wasn't necessarily looking for one.

Sony A6400: amzn.to/2XO7ThM

Blue Yeti USB Mic: amzn.to/3blEnUo
Metal thing to mount my mic on my camera and not get in the way of the flip screen (Small Rig): amzn.to/2z4rEaf
Tripod: amzn.to/2ROKk4B

Artificial succulents (tech CZcamsr must have): amzn.to/2z4rrUv
This Sonos replaced an old echo dot that I connected to the crappy Sony soundbar.
It was a gift from my younger brother and after having it for a few weeks I can say that I'm all in on Sonos. The sound quality is great and I love the idea of building out whole home audio on my own whenever I want.
I knew Sonos supported Air Play 2 and I know that Apple TV’s have Air Play. I just never thought of using them together.
The real reason has to do with Lord of the Rings. I haven’t watched Lord of The Rings. I know I know, roast me in the comments if you so please, but I hadn’t watched it. My wife finally convinced me to watch it one day before bed and we started the first movie on our Samsung TV in our bedroom. It looked great, but the sound was lacking and if you are a fan of lord of the rings, you know how much sound plays into the overall watching experience.
So, after falling asleep an hour into the movie, because I was tired and not because I was bored, we decided to pick the movie back up in the living room and as I was getting the Apple TV remote to connect, I held the play button and noticed the audio sources came up and my Living Room Sonos was an option! I selected it, went to the HBO Max app and played the movie and OH MY GOD IT MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE.
How did I get my Sonos One to work as a soundbar with my 50 black friday LG TV? Here's what you need:
• A Sonos that supports AirPlay2. I have the Sonos One Gen2 but the Sonos One SL and some more expensive versions support it
• An Apple TV 4K
Quick note, even though some newer TVs have Air Play support, they can only receive content, not distribute it. I have a Samsung TV with Air Play 2 and wasn't able to pair it with my Sonos. Not a big deal, but something to note!
Step 1
• Make sure your Apple TV and Sonos are on the same wireless network. In my case, both my Sonos and TV are connected via ethernet.
Step 2
• Go to your Apple TV home screen and press + hold the play button on the Apple TV Remote. You’ll see your Sonos One available as an audio source in addition to any other AirPlay sources.
BONUS
• If you have AirPods, you can change watch TV using your AirPods. This has come in handy for me when I wake up early and want to catch in some Premier League. of course, it’s been a while since that happened. Now I just use it to watch TV without disturbing my wife if she’s working or on a call.
Step 3
• Select your Sonos(es) and hit the Menu button to exit
Step 4
• Head to your streaming service of choice and enjoy whatever it is you wanted to watch with a lot better audio!
Now you're ready to have a better TV viewing experience. A few things to note before we go:
• I don't use the Sonos every time I'm watching something on TV. Just when watching movies or sports (thank goodness PL is back)
• You might have to reconnect to your Sonos if your TV turns off. It won't go out while you're watching TV, but if you watch something, turn the TV off and come back, you might have to go through the set up process again. It's not than painful, but something to remember so you don't have to interrupt your tv session
• Volume control is interesting. I'm not sure if it's because of my TV, but when I adjust the volume using the Apple TV remote, it's only controlling my TV audio and not my Sonos audio. To adjust the Sonos audio, I either have to:
(1) Go back to the audio selection screen and adjust Sonos audio
(2)Get up and manually adjust the Sonos volume
(3) Open the Sonos controller app and adjust volume
It takes a second or two for the audio to come out from the Sonos. It's not that big of a deal and understandable since it's being done wirelessly. There was no lag between the audio and what I was watching

Was looking how to connect Sonos not your life story. Thanks
Great feedback. I’m working on making videos shorter and concise. Obviously still a work in progress but I appreciate the comment. Not trying to waste anyone’s time!
Hey sal you don’t gotta be a dick man you know you can fast forward eh
@@itschrishuerta good video bro
Thanks Dustin!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
He gets to the point at about 4:30!!
Holy shit thank you
😂Omg thank you 🙏🏽 That was looooong to get to the point I nodded off twice
Thx for the vid watched 5 min before finding out i need a Apple tv XD
HE DOESN’T MENTION STEP 0: Get an Apple TV
Thank you! lol you saved 5 minutes of my life
You could of made this video shorter and give us the point..
Agreed! It’s something I’m working on for next videos. Still practicing. Thanks for the feedback!
Chris Huerta Hi Chris no issues but it was way too much dithering around and us the viewers pretty much know the Sonos system, nothing new really you basically can’t get around not having a playbar and expect the sound to be impressive with non-Sonos equipment they are design to work together.😊
@@nigelmurphy4053 This is awesome feedback and something I didn't think about! Most Sonos users are already familiar with Sonos, so jumping right to it makes sense. Appreciate it Nigel!
@@itschrishuerta I think it added a funny little moment. Not many tech channels have much personality
Thank you for making this video. I never would have known this!
Thanks for watching!
I have 5 sonos and subwoofer the sound quality control is so much better than other speakers I have had. Definitely hope I'm able to connect to my TV or might as well get the soundbar
I also have my Apple TV connected to my receiver via HDMI for surround sound. When you cast it to the Sonos, does the sound stop being sent to the receiver?
I am trying to listen to the same show in “two different rooms” and I’m trying to figure out how…without buying a playbar.
Amazing video that’s for your help you video saved me getting a new soundbar you 100% got a new subscriber
Whenever i press and hold play button my apple tv turns off any help ?
Thanks for posting. Chris do you know if this will work with a Play 3? I think I have one Gen 1 and the other is Gen 2 they are paired in stereo
Can you use 2 Sonos one paired as soundbar?
Can I use the sonos One if I'm streaming from Amazon?
hmm, when I go to the home page and hold the play button it doesn't do anything. I have Sonos One and Apple TV 4k..
Amigo una pregunta tengo 3 sonos one generacion 2 le puedo aderir o emparejar una sonos sonos play one
Thank's Chris.
I can’t seem to get my Sonos Play 1 to show up under the list of available audio devices. It only shows the other Apple TV devices. Any idea why?
Do you have a Sonos Play 1 Gen1 or Gen2?
Chris Huerta gen 1. Is that the issue?
@@justwilliamstern I believe so. This process is using Airplay 2 and I believe that starts at with the Gen2 Play 1.
Chris Huerta dude, thanks so much for taking your time to respond. Mad respect.
No worries, William! Glad I could help!
Great tip. It true you could go to the point, but you deserve more like !
Thanks! Yep I had gotten some feedback about being more personal and sharing my stories but I have to be more careful about when and where I do that. A 'How To' video is definitely not the place lol
Thanks for the comment and for watching!
This video is really really really really really verbose [3:05]. You could have given us the point in 2mins. Meaningful part starts at 5:09
I have 2 wireless sonos in different parts of my house plus the main component connected to 2 hardwired speakers Still trying to do this sonos hack I just got another apple tv 4k for free with points so still working on it some complications
Thanks for the info, exactly what I wanted to know, how the sound unput volume is selected and controlled.
Thanks for watching!
Is there a way to do what you describe for those who have roku or fire tv?
I’m not sure, to be honest. My understanding is that in order to get AirPlay 2 to work you need to have at least one Apple device. In this case, I’m AirPlaying my Apple TV audio to my Sonos. Based on my research you’d have to get a Sonos sound bar that has an HDMI input and connect that to the TV where your Roku or Fire TV. Definitely not ideal and different from what I described in the video. Sorry about that!
Nice video!
I have purchased two Sonos one speakers, next month I’ll purchase the Sonos Arc, and the following month the sub
Moving into a new home soon and I'm already planning my purchases. Arc is next for me!

My gosh go to the point 😅
I know I know! It’s hard making videos. There’s a lot I want to share but I am working on keeping things short and to the point.
Stay tuned and you’ll notice improvements!
i am planning to get 2 symfonisk and apple tv 4k for my tv (since my tv doesn't not supoory disney plus)
hearing stereo separation would be enough for me
I’m not going to lie, those Symfonisk speakers look pretty sleek. I’m actually considering getting one of the lamp versions for the office. Lighting and great speakers?!
That sounds like a great setup though. I hope you enjoy it!
i have been rizzed
Is it possible on a non apple tv?
Great question
The video should have been under 2 mins but thanks
Roku tv is suppose to have airplay now. Do I still need Apple TV?
My understanding was that Roku TV with airplay allows you to airplay stuff TO the tv and not FROM the tv.
So Airplaying a video from your phone might work but I don’t think you’re able to switch the audio from your Roku TV to something like the Sonos.
@@itschrishuerta That’s a heartbreaker, but still better than nothing. Thanks for the response.
No worries! Thanks for stopping by Kyle!
My question is with this thing being an arm and a leg why in the actual fuck would it not have an optical in Or Bluetooth capabilities for fire stick
So they can release a new speaker with that exact functionality and get you to buy that one!
I have 6 Sonos speakers around my house
I have 22 speakers of sonos.
A 2 min video would have given you more likes.
It probably would have but I'm still learning about what works/doesn't work on CZcams. If there's something I've learned with this video is that people appreciate 'How To' videos that get to the point, which I completely understand.
I've considered making a follow up that's shorter and to the point, but I want to keep this up for me as a reminder of what not to do lol
Appreciate you commenting and watching!
Bloody hell get on with it.
Thanks for the comment and I'm really sorry about that. Definitely didn't mean to waste people's time. I updated the description with timestamps!

Thanks for watching!
It’s not source. It’s the target. The source is the Apple TV.
Great call out. Thank you!
omg... add tags in the video for when you actually explain how to do it.
Hey Nic, thanks for the comment and I'm really sorry about that. Definitely didn't mean to waste your time scrubbing through the video. It is a 'How To' after all. I updated the description with timestamps! I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

After 10 minutes of watching this, am no wiser.
Don’t need your life story. Video was a cure for my insomnia.
I’m glad it helped with something then! Thanks for watching 😊
maybe you should add a "only for apple products" in the title to save time from other people looking for a standard solution fitting any device
Skip to 4:30 and avoid the boring nonsense
So another words it's a complete nightmare of a setup and is full of flaws that no one would ever use 😁 sonos is supposed to make your life easier not more work..but thanks,!!f I ever feel the need to lose my mind I'll let you know rotfl 😁
Hi Peter,
Thanks for the comment and watching the video!
Like I mentioned in the video, if you're looking for a soundbar option, this isn't it. This video is for people who have a Sonos One that's in a good spot to be used as a soundbar and are willing to go through the steps and hurdles. If that's not you, don't mind this video :)
Have a good one, mate!
@@itschrishuerta I'm currently using sonos arc and 2 Sl's as rears and 3rd gen sub coming on Tuesday...can you stereo pair 2 one's to use with the TV? As I also have to one's stereo paired in the same room just for music when I'm gaming..thanks 👍....
😚😚
So this only works for apple tv? You might have said something in the title! Also you are literally the only person under 65 who has not watched lord of the rings. Wft
Good sound quality and voice control. She tells terrible jokes, however 😅
Very hard to follow, steps were not clear.
so, don't need a whole life story and also should of told people that YOU NEED AN APPLE TV!
Damn this was a long drawn out video. Get to the point already.
Holy moly… tmi
No shit!
Should have put Apple TV in the title to save peoples time….
You went too much around the bushes. No need to know about your whole history. Next time just go straight to the point and maybe you will have less dislikes.
You’re right! I’m not too worried about the dislikes, tbh. I learned a lot from this video and will be sure to incorporate what I learned in new ones :)
Thanks for the feedback!
dude your intro wayyyyy too long
YUP. Fixing that in future videos. Thanks for watching this one, though!
I just waisted 10 minutes of my life with this guy.
Thanks for hanging out though!
Bruh we dont care about your whole story
Just tel us if we can Connect it with the tv yes or no
Change your description and stop wasting my time
10 min of bullshit...
You have to learn how to “how to”
Get to the point
Waste of time
Too much talking just get to the point
What a waste of 10 mins of my life! It could have been a 1 minute video without the family history.
In summary "Apple TV supports Airplay-compatible audio devices (including Sonos One Gen 2)"!!
Stop talking so much and get to the point
