  • This was the HIGHLIGHT of the whole Italy-Trip, trying to "summit" the highest peak of this region - the Ortler (3902 m) - once it was Austrians highest peak (prior to 1919 where the Hungarian-Austrian monarchy fell apart).
    Weather is always a factor of uncertainity - here we had quite good weather, sunny, no wind, but some clouds. With some luck I found a good spot to start from but look up the Ortler in 3D in google maps - it's a bit hard to fly up there... And it was also really INTIMIDATING to even stand there ;)
    So glad how those 2 flights turned out, first one with a LiIon and scouting the area, 2nd flight with more powerful Lipo and taking the risk to got up to the highest peaks.
    I still have some more flights from this trip - so stay tuned (or even subscribe if you aren't!).
    Greets, Mario

    Du sprichst mir aus der Seele 😄 diese Aufregung vor dem Flug! Dann die Anspannung die sich langsam löst wenn man dort ist wo man hin wollte und die Erleichterung wenn man wieder zurück ist und den Flug im Kasten hat - das macht das Long Range Fliegen aus🙂

      @@Sonic_Ox thanks man. How your bee35 is doing ok? I salvage mine too get the Ö3 in a new freestyle copter that I've been testing today...

    • @Sonic_Ox
      @Sonic_Ox Před 19 dny

      @Rcschim The Bee35 is finally working GREAT! Thank you for asking. It was a long road, and my led lights have stopped working, but it's flying well. Lately, I've been working on my 7" build. I've swapped over to a high-quality frame (AOS), and I'm saving up money to switch it over to digital. The maiden flight after the frame swap was a bit of a disaster. Upon lift-off, the craft spun wildly out of control with wide open throttle. I had the presence of mind to disarm, but the quad crashed on gravel from about 100 feet in altitude, destroying the analog FPV camera and the action camera. Thank goodness it wasn't a GoPro or such. The frame seems undamaged except the camera cage, which suffered bent stand offs. Turns out that the ESC firmware was configured for reverse motor direction while the FC firmware (INAV) was configured for normal motor direction. I don't know how this changed from just a frame swap...🤔 it was sort of difficult to diagnose. Shame on me for not catching it before the damage was done. Live and learn, I guess. I hope you had a great time in Italy. The video you captured is wonderful. Happy flying, my friend. 🫡 🍻

    • @Rcschim
      @Rcschim  Před 19 dny +1

      Das to read, but I made this motor direction error more than once myself as well ;)
      Now I always double check motor and prop orientation before maiden flights.
      Even hab little arrows showing the prop direction on the same since I have many copies and some of them are normal and others are reversed...
      7" drones are the best overall FPV crafts imho. Currently trying to get into some more aggressive freestyle flying with 5" tho. Greets, Mario

    • @Sonic_Ox
      @Sonic_Ox Před 19 dny

      @Rcschim Good advice, Mario. If you can believe it, I've never flown a 5" quad 😆 I've never really been interested in aerobatics. I'm much more interested in smooth, cinematic video capture. My first DIY build is the 7", and then I built the 3.5" cinewhoop. I would like to build a 5" eventually and get into freestyle, but that's sort of on the back burner. I hope your current build goes well. Happy flying amigo. 🫡 🍻

    Epic peaks!! Amazing flying, audio and editing. You had me wondering and anxious with flying both sides of the ridge-line at a distance (2:04, 2:24), and then down low through a channel. Fantastic navigation.
    The sound of the emergency vehicle passing on the road must made you anxious while in the goggles.

    • @Rcschim
      @Rcschim  Před 19 dny +1

      The ridge was easy accessible from the door I luckily found here!
      Yes, the ambulance made me freak out a bit, good that I had my cam woman with me, she calmed me down.
      From the sound of the horn I didn't recognize ambulance, thought I'd da police (always bad conscience while flying;)

    1:54 I think you meant SAND not DUST.
    Even in the French West Indies where i am natively from (more precisely Martinique), we have SAND coming from the Sahara DESERT, apparently it's a normal phenomenon since SAND travels pretty well in the upper atmosphere.
    Amazing view and scenery Mario ❤
    Have a great week and keep on flying 🙏🏼💪🏼

    • @Rcschim
      @Rcschim  Před 20 dny

      Thanks Cedric, yeah I meant Sahara sand. Amazing to think about how far it travels. I read that the how is not abnormal, but the frequency how often this now happens is because of climate change...
      greets and have a nice week as well!

    Great flight & footage. got to really know your quad. Its not like you can glide it back like you can with a wing. Nearest I've done was going up Snowdon in Wales UK with a Eachine 680 Black Wing, but had the same trouble as you in that there was Helicopters in the area taking tourists up the mountain I think. So after 2 attempts, I gave up.

    • @Rcschim
      @Rcschim  Před 21 dnem +1

      The heli was no problem (we saw him 1hr later from up that pass). The loud siren 🚨 of the ambulance was quite disturbing.
      Flights were epic. The chimera with o3 really works perfect, 13 flights on that trip, all more or less longrange and 0 issues!

    What a fabulous flight. Sadly the Canadian government won't let drones fly in our Rocky Mountains. Do you know the altitude gain from where you took off to the drone's height over the mountain peaks?

    • @Rcschim
      @Rcschim  Před 18 dny +1

      Thanks man! I guess if you don't ask and nobody sees where you start your drone, you can still fly. (that's why I was so nervous when that siren passed me, I already saw myself in handcuffs ;)
      Starting Alt was around 1900m asl and I almost dobled that ;) If I'd found the right peak (the Ortler was my intended destination) it would have been 200m more ;)

  • @RCSurf
    @RCSurf Před 21 dnem +1

    very nice, what happens if you lose the drone up in the mountain peaks , would you hike up to get it. how many drones have you ever lost in the mountains?

    • @Rcschim
      @Rcschim  Před 21 dnem +1

      Probably not recoverable there.
      So far I lost one in Auronzo (eagle attack) and one on my home mountain due to a motor or esc fault (but that's almost 10yrs ago, since then great got more reliable). Greets

    wow! what a flight, truly spectacular flight, i would need a spotter and somebody to stop my legs from shaking hehehe i know you dont like using cinema bars or giving up any fov but the first part really looked epic. i can understand why you didnt use it in the second bit, the mountains in the distance and the ragged edge you were flying looked awesome. when you do use bars remember you can pan up and down using keyframes. when the time is right its a fantastic effect to gently switch the viewers focus.

    • @Rcschim
      @Rcschim  Před 21 dnem

      Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I guess bars make it look more epic. No, 24fps would not have made it more cinematic, just stuttery ;)
      On the way down I needed more fov. It was unbelievable getting to fly there and also bringing in the 2nd flight safe ;)

    • @TheMadmacs
      @TheMadmacs Před 21 dnem

      @@Rcschim yeah i'm not a fan of 24fps, not sure why you mentioned it, i was talking about keyframes when you use bars, you can pan up and down a little for effect. and yeah, to be honest, i think i would have only been able to fly one pack there, i tend to need to go away and look at my footage and kick myself for not being braver before i can go back and do it better.

    • @Rcschim
      @Rcschim  Před 21 dnem

      sorry for the confusion, mentioning 24fps had nothing to do with your comment ;) I'm just obset by the cinema fanboys that use 24 just because they think it's right, while 30 or 60 looks way smoother...
      same here: often times I hate it that I was so carefull and didn't go all the way up... but with growing confidence you risk more...
      even here, I didn't reach the dedicated "Ortler" - the highest peak there - but since it was in clouds I don't think this would have been a good idea.

    • @TheMadmacs
      @TheMadmacs Před 21 dnem +1

      @@Rcschim jeesus thanks!.... i've been thinking that for ages. i dont even like 30fps motion blur, i only follow the the rule when i have to, i think i did glencoe at 2.7k and 60fps and 120 shutterspeed, it lets me do slow mo or 80% speed, ( i use that often to smooth out the footage)

    Hi, Mario, did you always manage to maintain optical connection between you and the drone ?
    How far was the drone away from you ?
    How low was the Mbps ?
    Congrats for the planning and the result !

    • @Rcschim
      @Rcschim  Před 21 dnem +1

      You need to plan your route up, and if you want to dive deep in such an ravine you need a good place to start from. DJI o3 always gave me good image. Maybe Mbps went down to 5 or 10, an occasional stutter in a turn maybe, but good video!
      Distance could have been 4.6km out and 1.7km of alt, but my mind is blurry on that one ;)

    • @Rcschim
      @Rcschim  Před 20 dny

      I don't know. But this was 1 day before this Giro. Maybe this was the training day for the race... The almost 2km of alt on this mountain stage must be terrible for a cyclist.
