  • Having gone up the pass from the Italian side, dropped down into the Swiss side. In a way, I was thankful for the cyclists, allowed me to slow down and take in the breathtaking scenery.

    Ah mate, this road I have to do at some stage. Europe is a must see on two wheels! Those cyclists were mad! Especially the one at 16:35 that went inside of the car in the hairpin as you were going around the outside. Is the road one way at certain times to avoid collisions? As I noticed a lot of traffic going down but none coming up and I also noticed a barrier across the road just before the village at the end.
    The first video I saw of this road was from Holliday Rides in 2013. Then an Aussie friend of mine cycled it. I am glad that you got to ride it with the great man Schaaf!

    • @royaljordanian

    • @inthenameofjustice8811
      @inthenameofjustice8811 Před 9 lety

      That's interesting a testament to modern bikes. When I was young high altitude could play havoc with an engine. I lived up a hill that was 250 feet above sea level and my bloody Norton would kick off every time I tried to climb it. It would crawl half way up sometimes and then stop with a burning smell.
      I finally took it to a garage and the mechanic mumbled some witch craft about clutch plates. I have no idea what he did but the engine was fine after that.
      I realised that it was the altitude that was the problem but the bloody know-it-all mechanic (Pfft) insisted that was nothing to do with, but I have an O-Level in domestic science so I ignored him at the time. I only took it to him when I got tired of pushing it everywhere.
      Still, that was years ago and my knowledge of bikes has come on leaps and bounds now. Just last week I learned that chains need oil.
      Anyway. Thanks for the videos. Seriously. Bloody excellent.

      250 ft is a small hill. I used to go to school 1/2 a mile from the ocean at 400 ft elevation. There is no change in air pressure or constituents at that level. Greater than 20,000 ft maybe.
