It’s my understanding that this property is actually across the street from Rick Rubin’s recording studio. Back in the 90’s this lot was actually vacant and had walking paths that people would hike up and smoke weed at. I ride my motorcycle up in this area regularly and have actually rode in to the gates of the Mansion then immediately turned around and rode back out. The actual recording studio home is massive. Great video!
Man this is a once in a lifetime masterpiece. Can you imagine all history in that place. Especially it Harry Houdini lived there. And Rick Rubin is one of the greatest music producers ever.
RHCP recorded "Blood sugar sex magic" (at the big white mansion across the street (just north of the old Zappa log cabin, which Rick bought after the recording was done) . The white mansion was owned by an old southern lady who also owned the Houdini Mansion shown here and a big house that she lived in further up laurel. RHCP have a documentary when they recorded at the white mansion and if you look closely you can see my mom's old Volvo parked in the parking lot. I lived on the property at that time. Fonya (the owner at the time) told me once when I asked about Jimi Hendrix renting a room from her, "nice boy, played his guitar too loud."
That is one of the most amazing places I've ever seen! Thanks for taking that tour for us and I'm so glad you were in such good shape that you could do all that climbing, Jordan! Oh, how so many of us wish we could do it with you. I guess I hadn't seen this earlier vlog yet. Thanks so much; it was great to see.
wow. Thanks for posting this. I grew up in Laurel Canyon in the '70s and '80s and coming down laurel pass we would always see what was left of the Houdini mansion. When Rick bought it he put up the wall of trees so you really can't see the stairs anymore like you used to. Most of the video looks like it's all-new but the stairs and most of the stones look like the original. Don't forget to look at the grand staircase at 12midight on Halloween to see Houdini's ghost walk down the stairs (we always heard that when we were kids!)! I'm thinking the recording studio is still across the street in the big white mansion he also owns where RHCP recorded "Sex blood sugar magic"....check out the RHCP documentary on it for reference. Great video!
Yes, it IS incredible that you got to film so much in there!! I drive by several times a week (for decades at this point) and often wonder what it's like up those intriguing stairs. It's nice to see that the beauty and weirdness actually lives up to my imagination. Thank you!
Jordan I think you need to do a revamp of mysteries and scandals if AJ Benza doesn’t want the job. I think you should do a show in that same vein. You should defiantly do something that celebrates old Hollywood! Your like me your obsessed with history.
Hard to believe I lived 5 min from there over 50 years ago and never got to see all of it. Did you mention Kelle Rhoads? Kelle, real name Doug and brother of the late, great Ozzy guitarist Randy Rhoads, was my drum teacher and Randy and I were in their Mom's Musonia school orchestra together.
I remember this video! It's a good one! I read a book (forget the title) on how Houdini performed all his tricks and escapes. It came out in 1930's. One of the claims from the book is that he swallowed keys and regurgitated them to open locks.
Hello again Jordan. You definitely got some exercise. The last vlog I reminded me where you got exercise, was the bat cave. It looked like a long walk. Great Vlog Jordan.
Nice video. Thank you for delving into the archives. I apologize in advance that I haven’t seen all of your videos but have you done one of Greystone in Beverly Hills? I know that they don’t allow photography there (officially) but I wondered if you had explored that location for us. It’s one of my favorite destinations for sightseeing and for attending events.
I missed this one too! Glad that you put it up, very impressive! If you get to Arizona again, hope that you can do a meet, and greet with some of your many fans here. One of my good friends here has had five movies made about the house that he lived in, back east, when he was much younger.
Hey Jordan Joe how are you doing 😊, Vlog so cool. Question where is or what's the website for ordering those sun glasses that you seem to have growing on some kind of 🌲 tree out back u pull off of lol 😀 ? Would like a pair pretty cool 😎 Thanks Joe...
That is an interesting place, were you working their that day you looked nice in that tie, I was thinking what the other guy said, how did miss this one...

This is where legends made "Toxicity"
I've been there many times with clients but I saw more from your vlog of this place than ever before. Thanks for sharing. Another great Vlog.
That was amazing! I've been interested in the house since RHCP recorded there. You can see more of the house in their dvd, Funky Monks.

Actually the Houdini Estate is owned by Jose Nazar. Rick Rubin owns the property across the street.

Can you go ch3ck the tax records for the property? Maybe a little investigation is in order!
