The film, Dark River, is profoundly beautiful and sad, a story about the land and making a living and about family troubles that take generations to repair.

Esm'e Creed-Miles from the amazon series "Hannah" is also in this film. She played the young version of Alice in the flashbacks in the film. Such a great actress. She really portayed the pain, confusion, anxiety and fear the character was facing.
And this song by PJ Harvey is hauntingly beautiful and a perfect match for this film.

I'm not equating PJ Harvey with early Suzanne Vega, because Polly has no equal, nor am I implying anything negative about Vega, but this song, in a vacuum. reminds me a bit of Vega's work on her first album although elevated. In short, a beautiful song!
