  • Myself and Sarah have taken on the challenge to walk through the entirety of this top tourist destination, Manuel Antonio. On this walk we will show you all of the bus stops, our favorite spots, taxi stops, and everything else along the way.
Luckily, with the help of MontonCR we were able to catch a few buses along the way, as the app shows a live map of where the buses are, so you know exactly when they will pass by.
This is a long one, so you can skip through to the parts that are most relevant to you!
Come to get to know the beautiful Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica with us!

Wow amigos! This was a hefty walk, and the first walking tour I have done for you in a very long time. I truly believe this video is going to help many, if we forgot anything, please do mention it in the comments for everyone to see!

my wife and i are moving to Manual Antonio on June 15. We have been in CR for over a year now but have never been to MA. Your incredible walking tour will help us so much. I watch a lot of these type of tours and this one is by far the best. We will be in a B&B for a week there while we look for a furnished one bedroom in the area. We have been living on flat land in Guanacasta but are looking forward to more jungle. Thank you very much and safe travels to you. Pura Vida. I have to do my leg exercises now lol.

I am so happy to hear that my video has helped you to figure out the area a bit better! And to hear that it's one of the best ones you have seen, really appreciate that.
Good luck with your move and.. well, your leg exercises! Haha.

Hi Emma. Thank you for this video. It was amazing and I will tell you why! I am thinking about taking the teaching ESL course at Maximo Nivel in Manuel Antonio. Because of your and Sarah's walking tour I was able to see everything that was from where the school is and what is around that area. The businesses, the bus stops and the trip from Quepos to the nat'l park showed me so much of what to expect. Thank you guys so much!

What an awesome walking tour of all of Manuel Antonio! Imagine if I saw this before I went to Manuel Antonio lol; but it's always cool to see all of the places that I remembered passing by or going to when I was there a few months back. Definitely a lot of AirBnbs and hotels! Almost every corner has one or the other or both lol. Throughout the video, I have gotten lots of flashbacks to when I was there and I've enjoyed the moment I first saw you in person to meeting some of the most awesome local guides in MA National Park. It was one of the best days when I was in CR. After watching this video, there are a lot of places that I missed out but at least this is a great reference to look back for visiting the city. If I ever do come back one day, I'll definitely refer to this video again from time to time. It's always good to see that new places are in the works or have already opened from time to time because Manuel Antonio is a city that keeps growing and attracting new and old tourists.
You and Sarah are really down-to-earth, compassionate, and helpful people; the fact that you guys did this exhaustive yet extensive walking tour! You deserve a lot of credit and I appreciate you took the time and effort to put that video together. Very and truly honorable and a great way to get your 10,000 steps! As numerously mentioned, it's better to take the bus to get around or rent a car if possible. Buses are definitely cheaper options especially if coming from San Jose/Quepos, but hey nothing wrong with getting the flexibility by driving with a rental car. You and Sarah should be proud that you did this complete walking tour as a lot of people would not be doing that for sure.
Great stuff Emma! Great video as always; looking forward to more :)
    Timestamp Comments
1:27 - 1:50 Dang there's an app! Super cool; I definitely be using this if I wasn't renting a car but I love having the flexibility of course. Who knows, if I do come back there, I love to try and take buses all throughout the city next time.
2:31 - 2:35 Yeah I heard about the mask mandate uplift for CR since May 11; it's super awesome to hear that considering that things are mostly normal now. It can be a hassle just wearing a mask when it's scorching hot and the masks would just be too moist from the sweat and breathing lol
6:47 - 6:48 Pretty much you have to make your own sidewalk lol; well in a place like Manuel Antonio where there's surrounding jungles, trees, and all that jazz, it's pretty common to do so and I think it's actually nice. It's part of the journey and I think that's wonderful. If anything, it's likely better that way; with sidewalks, sometimes it might be expensive to continuously maintain as with any paved or cemented material.
7:37 - 8:14 Girl, whatchu talking about?! You two are some of the hottest girls all over Manuel Antonio; of course those drivers are gonna honk their horns ;) All jokes aside, yeah not only you have unofficial parking guides who make you pay so much money to find parking for you at Manuel Antonio (MA) national park, you have drivers in general to give you a ride without knowing them; perhaps they want to take advantage of that we are foreigners... sounds like they're trying to compete with Uber or the red taxis and buses
10:40 - 10:53 Really nice they got a nice little store there; it's also nice that Manuel Antonio is a city full of AirBnbs; it's nice that you can get a nice place that's right by the beach or even the national park. I thought about staying at one of those but I ended up choosing another AirBnb that was in Quepos since it was cheaper.
12:21 Ayyyy Reto Mae! This is one of the places I wanted to do but unfortunately I had to have at least one other person to do so since the minimum is two people; I was bummed honestly but hey it is what it is :) I remember watching the video when you did that Reto Mae tour; it looked so fun!
15:50 - 16:00 Yeeeeah, you guys are popular! See, who wouldn't want to get to know Emma and Sarah! Down to earth and hot girls all of Manuel Antonio haha
21:52 Lol it's funny because I used to get confused between Quepos and Manuel Antonio xD Especially when I first came there but after going, I know the difference now.
23:55 - 23:58 Lol the lady looking at the camera (yeah lady you're being recorded for the walking tour!)
27:40 - 27:43 I dunno about that Emma; I saw you at a club in Quepos drinking Imperials, flipping your hair and head continuously and dancing on the dance floor. You know how to get lit!! (Hehe, just teasing; it's true; not a big partyer but that's like me too)
31:16 - 31:39 Hell yeah, Japanese food!!! Lesss goooo! :)
32:40 - 32:44 LOL that somewhat abrupt cut to the next day after Emma shows the plaza; the two ladies that passed by were like "Is this for CZcams...? " xD Anyway, great segway to the next day
32:54 - 33:23 I recognize this area! This is awesome; yes this was the way to get to Playa Biesanz. I remember driving there around 5:00 a.m. to just hit the beach there and it was chill down there.
37:09 - 37:13 Oh that's what those sounds were coming from when I was on my way to Playa Biesanz; I was there around 5:30 a.m. at the time and I certainly heard those monkey sounds. They were so cool to hear and it gave me a good jungle feeling and atmosphere. It was dope!
38:39 - 38:51 That 11 seconds of silence and just listening to the sounds of nature and wildlife all throughout was relaxing. A great snapshot that describes the experience of Costa Rica.
41:40 - 41:52 Oh yeah definitely dangerous but considering how people can get distracted with that stunning view... I wouldn't be surprised if that was one of the reasons people have their cars fall on that ditch lol. I don't remember if I went to this area before but maybe I have but it was likely too dark to recognize
44:14 - 44:15 Emma acting Italian for two seconds there lol xD Mamma mia! We are going up!
47:22 - 49:13 Ooooh this is the hotel I passed by right I had a little trouble finding Biesanz! Yes I remember driving there and just walking a bit of that downhill like you did to try and find the entry way to Biesanz. It's cool because it was relatively a little dark just before sunrise and it was a little hard to see everything but because this was filmed in daylight, I can see everything there. Really cool that you have been to that hotel and they had good food and experiences.
49:45 - 50:27 I guess I dodged a bullet because I didn't had to pay for parking; I believe when I was there, there weren't any parking guards but it's likely because I got there just around sunrise. But good to know though! I would have probably gotten into trouble lol. As far as I finding the entrance, yeah I got lost until I realized someone from TripAdvisor said the same thing; the entrance is right near the trash can thingies, but hey the more you know!
52:01 Dang that part of the road is bad... lol
56:09 Wooow, no way! Can't believe I passed by a nice Indian place to eat! That's so cool; glad to hear their food is bomb!
59:29 - 59:33 I thought the person waving at the camera was doing it because he knew you but until Sarah said he was doing it for the camera, that cleared things lol; I definitely be doing the same thing but I imagine myself pulling down the window and saying "Subscribe to Emma in Costa Rica!"
1:02:56 Ayyyyy there's your logo! Super cool :) Living proof that you've been there. Really nice!
1:04:08 Ayyyy El Wagon; one of the restaurants I went to after we had lunch together; only reason was to charge my phone LOL; didn't get to try their pizzas because I was full but I did order their nachos and drinks and it was pretty good! The atmosphere is nice too :)
1:18:08 - 1:18:20 Yup I remember the day you told me this when we were on our way to lunch. Those people standing there are trying to rip people off haha; I believe when I was driving out of MA National Park to San Jose, I saw some tourists falling for these people and I felt quite bad for them because they were going to get scammed basically.
1:20:40 - 1:21:46 Yaaay, Playa Espadilla; that beach was really nice! Really had a good time there; the water tide was perfect.
1:24:13 - 1:24:20 Yup, yup, this is the first way to get to MA National Park; I was fortunate to have gotten there pretty early to find a good parking spot (as guided by a legit parking official of course hehe)
1:28:22 Yup, definitely recognize that part! :)

Tony! Thank you so much for your kind words, this was truly exhaustive and it pleases me very much to know that you appreciate the effort that went into this video! It's totally true though, that this video is something that both new and old visitors to the area can enjoy and make use of. This was the idea behind it all!
Glad to hear that you got to biesanz beach early enough to enjoy the sunrise, the howler monkeys, the other nature sounds, and best of all beat the parking fee! haha.
I wish all people waving hello would yell about subscribing to my channel , it would be great advertising and quite funny!
It was great getting to show you a little slice of this area when we met in person, hopefully this really showed the rest nicely for you!
Thanks for taking the time to watch it all and leave these incredible comments!

It really broke my heart to watch that video. My family moved to Manuel Antonio in early 1974, as far as I know I was the first expat kid to live in the area for any length of time. We were there for 8 years. Our VW van broke down at the bottom of the last big hill driving into Manuel Antonio, we were towed to the beach right next to what was the Mar y Sombra restaurant. Eventually rented a place just down the hill from where the Barba Roja was yet to be built. It was a gravel road all the way from Quepos to the beach and there was no electricity in the area. All the way from Quepos to the beach there might have been 10 or so buildings, including what I guess now is the bilingual school in "downtown Manuel Antonio". I attended that school and later the Liceo de Quepos. I'm happy that people are able to enjoy this little slice of paradise but so sad to see what it's become. Pura vida y tuanes a to-dos mis compas.

    • @EmmainCostaRica
      @EmmainCostaRica  Před 10 měsíci

Thank you so much!! I would 100% say Costa Verde! I have personally stayed there many times and not only is it much more convenient for getting around to restaurants and shops, but it is also practically within the National Park, the entire property is immersed in the forest with wildlife all around, plus the Manuel Antonio beach is a 5 minute walk - I find Shana is a bit to "Resort-y" and at the bottom of a hill (not the main road) that I wouldn't want to climb up and down every day, and taxis charge more just for going down that particular road!

Shana is just down a hill from all the shops and restaurants in Manuel Antonio, so you should be okay! Once up that hill, you can also hop on the bus and get to Quepos downtown where there is much more! Hopefully this helps, and thanks for watching!

    • @EmmainCostaRica
      @EmmainCostaRica  Před rokem +1

I would check out the app, here:apps.apple.com/us/app/montoncr/id1579326645
However I also tried to look up on google and there really isn't much detail. The current cost is 410 colones, you can board in Quepos at the bus station and the final stop is at the roundabout in Manuel Antonio in front of the beach, and then it heads back to Quepos (there are a variety of stops along the way, some marked, some not - if you know where you are going, you can tell the driver and they should help you or tell you when to get off). The buses start running around 5:30am, and the last bus is at 9:45 pm, I believe!
Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Great video. I was doing the same a couple of years ago. By the way, the honking is not because they want to give you a ride but because the guys like what they see. Since your friend has the workout clothes they honk, not really to pick you up because they know that no girl is going to acknowledge that but because they are nasty guys always walking with three legs. It happens here in the US too, is not only in Latinamerica. If she was dressed like you they wouldn’t be honking. Don’t get me wrong, she’s not dressed wrong but those old men are just annoying.

Thanks so much! And as for the cars honking - it's for both reasons, Manuel Antonio has a wild amount of piratas (collective taxis), you get to know them after a while, but the honking still never ends haha.

Hmmm.... a hotel for adults with pools in the rooms... hmm... my experience in South America is that hotels like this charge by the hour, of you get my drift.; )
