  • Creating 3D images in Inkscape is easily achieved using gradients, clip groups and a little blurring. With gradients, we are restricted to linear and radial gradients, which are perfect for a lot of shapes but sometimes we need to be able to create custom shape shading and highlight.
In this video, I demonstrate step by step how to use gradients, clip groups and blurring to achieve 3D shading effects for any shape.
In this tutorial, I’m using the latest version of Inkscape - Inkscape 1.2.2

Outstanding tutorial! I learned more about creating three-dimensional objects in a few minutes here than I have after twenty hours of Udemy courses. Extremely well done!

Thanks. I'm looking forward to Inkscape 1.3 being released. The new shape builder tool will hopefully be a great addition.

Great channel. For the bottom section, what is the advantage of using shapes (ellipse, rectangles etc) vs just tracing with bezier tool?

    • @CreateForFree

I used the ellipse tool to ensure I got a perfectly symmetrical curve which I could duplicate and scale to produce all the curves, but there's no reason why you shouldn't use the Bezier tool, it was just another way to do it

Thanks. Great to see different approaches.
