    I'm always really excited to see everyone's reaction to this finale because it had a lot of plot twists, especially Philippa and Emhyr. Those of us who have either read the books or played the games already knew both of those. You learn about Emhyr very early in Witcher 3, so I was interested to see how many saw that coming. I doubt I would have. It always gave me a good laugh when people thought Dijkstra was crazy for talking to an owl.
    This season may have felt kind of slow in the middle but honestly I loved those episodes too because they had the hard job of building up Ciri and her bond with Geralt and the other witchers. They had to slow down and build relationships, otherwise we wouldn't really care about them, especially Ciri, who had the weakest arc in season 1. Plus, they had to give us a lot of information about the conjunction, the monsters, elder blood, elves, introduce Redania a little more and of course the Wild Hunt, which is a very important player moving forward. In my opinion 8 episodes just aren't enough. Some things felt rushed. I agree that Yen's storyline was better in season 1 but this one really drove the plot forward. This season is absolutely better in terms of production value, locations, cgi and overall world building. However, I have such a soft spot for season 1, I can't decide which I like more. It's probably season 2, mostly because of Ciri and Geralt's relationship and the fact that we saw a lot more of Geralt's character.

      I fully agree with Dijkstra. Some book "true story" readers were furios why he talked to a bird and was a drunken fool, never realising that he had a proper and normal half telepatic conversation with Philippa.

      @TheDoctorIWho Před 2 lety

      @@diegostach9563 The reason is, that your premise is misconcepted. Apart from some flaws in the show, you forgot, that between Sodden and "now" are six years of story time. Only Ciri's story is present. I personally think that they planned different timelines in this season but skipped them. All other characters are bridging the six years and this is used to develop them in the way they will be later in the books. So these characters are somewhere between the short stories and the first novel, keeping up in the last scenes of episode eight. So it is clear that they are not the characters you know. Of course not. They are developed this way. Don't expect characters to be the same as at the end of the books or in the games like you remember them. They not always were this way. But at the end of ep.8 all pieces fall where they belong to.

    • @diegostach9563
      @diegostach9563 Před 2 lety

      @@TheDoctorIWho What the heck are you talking about? What pieces in episode 8?
      Nothing falls where it belongs to.
      They changed entire book lore, and entire characters arcs.
      Different timelines you say, I think I can agree on that with you, this feels like they wanted to make it just like season 1 and then they stepped back from that idea.
      And about "(...) this is used to develop them in the way they will be later in the books." I'm not so sure about it. I mean, they wanted to make Ciri and Triss have romance (XD) but it was fortunately cut out. They want to make their own fantasy using only the name that drives people attention. At least that's my pov.
      I was really looking forward to this season. To see Ciri's training, learning about differences between monsters, Triss being older sister and yelling at Witcher for not good way to rise a child etc. But when I ended watching this season I was more than confused. I read books again and just felt something like betrayal? I mean, I love lore, characters, books and games. I love everything and I wanted to love as much, but it's just too different to source material, that it's really hurting. Maybe that's only me and my friends, but I don't know.
      And as I said, I don't expect them to be like they were at the end, but they aren't the same as they are supposed to be now ;-;

    Geralt not forgiving Yen is normal after how many of his brothers died indirectly because of her. Ciri's biological dad Duny was declared death after their ship sunk at sea. I think the showrunner mentioned in the Netflix interview with Felicia Day that she was always nervous about adapting Blood of Elves because there was so much character building and relationship development that didn't necessarily translate well to really engaging on-screen action, so that's a large part of why they made a few major changes to the plot (Voleth Meir existing, Eskel dying, etc).

    You should read Blood of Evles, it's exactly what you said you want: the Elve plot isn't refugee, no Elven child murdered, no Elven freedom railroad... They do go to war with the north but is a political deal with Emhyr to secure their homeland. Fragila doesn't have a main arc in the books, she's a very minor side character. There's no deathless mother at all. In BoE there's tons of backroom politics and plotting which is way different than in the series.

    I don't mind if the writers of a TV adaptation want to come up with a complete different story, but unlike the perfect and flowless source material they delivered a story contradicting itself and full of flaws. i.e. this episode:
    - Possessed Ciri could never get to KM, the amulets would hum all the time like crazy, everyone would be aware of the presence of the demon.
    - Elves are the oldest, most educated race in magic and history. They would know the origin of the demon and would never team up with it, esp. Francesca as a mage. (the whole DM story is a pure writers' ass pull out, fyi)
    - Ciri was a small infant, she couldn't remember her parents, not alone create any emotional bonds towards them. When the demon was projecting to her mind and using this to sway her doesn't make much sense then. She had way stronger bond with Geralt and the rest of witchers.
    - Yennefer gets suddenly her magic back for no reason, fully drained after being the vessel and teleporting - but right on time to help heal wounded. From the story it was obvious that demon could not have any impact on her magic at all, neither had any abilities except of mental manipulation to offer empty promises.
    - If that demon just wanted to go home, it could straight away after possessing Ciri as it was already free and could use her powers to teleport them after opening the monolith portal.
    - Rience is originally a dumbass, not powerful mage at all, he always needs to be helped to get out of the troubles he puts himself into.
    - Elves are presented as a bunch of boring, suppressed and useless blokes - in fact, their are on pair with humans when it comes to all positives and negatives.
    In general, there are not limits when to comes to magic or teleporting in this shows and that makes it look not very believable and cheap (unlike in books where things have rules and order). Time and distance means nothing. Everyone knows everything with no reason just to move things forward.
    The main problem of both seasons is that characters make very odd or unnatural decisions quite often and enormous amount of eye striking coincidences (like random encounters) just to take the story where the writer wants it to be. I guess even without super writing talent but with some empathy and logical thinking anyone can try to put himself in his characters' shoes and imagine if desired reactions are really appropriate or even realistic.

      When in the history of movie adaptations of books did they exactly everything like in the books? The show is it's own thing, an interpretation of the books fitting a series format, just as the games are interpretations of the books made fit to a game environment. I can understand the disappointment not seeing the books you love brought to screen as you would have wanted. But the books are the books and you still have that. I'm talking more in general, sorry that I picked you out to talk about this xD But I often hear disappointment about this, also with Game of Thrones. Maybe it helps doing something about one's own expectations, because I think it's really unfair for all the hard working writers, the showrunner, the actors and actresses, the whole crew who work probably harder then we all do, to bring negative energy to this show, even if it's just your opinion (#nohate):P I'm sorry for the rant

Books are about the real monsters - humans, but here we have some random old hag in a hut from slavic folklore that is not even in the books or games, Its modern idea that series has to have a villain each season and wrap it up on the cliffhangers so outdated. Thing they did here completely ruins all the books politics, intrigues, redemption arcs. Also someone always has to be oppressed, like elves, Girl power to Fringilla - who was originally just a fuckbuddy of Geralt, Vesemir became crazy about the idea of creating new Witchers, that is the opposite of what happened in the animation before, and Yen had the same storyline in both seasons, She lost something important (choice, magic), she would do anything to get it
