You're so right remembering Castle Black... the actor who played Nivellen, you should remember him too. Though it's quite hard without the beard.

The actor who the plays the beast is well known for playing Tormund Giantsbane in game of thrones. He's a great actor with really good comedic chops and timing.

You nailed it. The Witcher is a VERY grey universe. There is very much a recurring theme of "who is the real monster?" in these stories. And of course they mentioned the sacking of Kaer-Morhen, it's a HUGE deal in the story. You'll see why later. Keep watching!

You're both right when you say that Ciri has untapped potential. Learning what she's capable of is one of the main stories in this season. Watching to see who influences her and her learning her own strength is one of the delights in this season. Can't wait for you guys to see more.

Interesting that you made the Beauty and the beast comment, the witchers author liked to reimagine fairytales, so its not a coincidence. In season one for example Renfri is Snowwhite, a princess who travels around with seven devoted men chased by a sorcerer trying to kill her. If you notice such coincidences they are deliberate.
Good reaction look forward to episode 2.

They did my boy Nivellen dirty in the show.
His story is a bit more tragic in the books. He still did something terrible, but there was a context to it.
For the curious, it goes like this:
He got in with a bad crowd when he was young, as the show says.
They got high off on mushrooms, as the show says.
They decided to vandalize the temple, as the show says.
But the story gets different when it comes to assaulting the priestess. Nivellen did not know they were going to hurt her, and when he found out, he refused to take part in it even though he was high on mushrooms. But his friends turned out to not be his friends at all and basically threatened to kill him if he didn't do it.
It is still a bad thing even if he was coerced, but it does add a context that is missing in the show, as the show makes it sound like he just did it because he was high and decided to do it.
Still a great episode and the story, even though it is different, is very much in tone with the overall feel of the show.

Sorry for not commenting on the video itself, but I have a recommendation. You need to watch the opening ceremonies of CBLOL (Brazilian League of Legends Championship), they are just as amazing (if not even better) than the worlds you watched, it's really worth watching. Hugs from Brazil

The Witcher, Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, the Boys. I wouldn't want to live in any of those universes(among others).

Further, wonder if that reference is a reference to the movie Excalibur and the King Arthur death scene. I have seen that type of sequence in several movies and shows, but remember seeing it there first.

Great reaction! In the Witcher 3 game, there are several endings. Ciri never actually becomes a witcher, in that she never takes the Trial of the Grasses, but in 1 of the endings she does follow the Witcher path, but because of her power, she does not need to take the Witcher mutagens.

Good comments on the lack of black and white in this universe. No spoilers, but remember what Nivellen said: "Monsters are more than just horrid looks and claws and teeth. Monsters are born of deeds done. Unforgivable ones." And everybody has reasons -- nobody here is just: "I want to destroy the world because I'm evil."
Looking forward to your reactions to the rest of the season.
