For a fanmade game, this looks surprisingly well made
Finally someone who actually agrees that SH1 is more remake worthy than 2.
This looks awesome
It did..on the wii
Part 2 is more popular dude.
@@isimioyekunlemarktaiwo3643 Shattered Memories is way too different to be considered a remake. It's more of a reimagining.
@@isimioyekunlemarktaiwo3643 I love shattered memories, but that's just way too far removed to be a remake of SH1. Besides, if Konami wants to also eventually remake SH3, they need a proper SH1 remake because the story of SH3 will not connect to Shattered Memories.
@osamafart
it is, but it is also way more advanced than 1 and has aged much better. Just like how RE1 was remade first and only decades later 2 was remade although it was more popular. Plus given that they want to also get new fans on board 1 is the best installment to introduce Silent Hill.
My opinion though let's see what happens 😁😁
15:06 I think this is EXACTLY why everyone skipping SH1 and playing SH2 kind of ruined the lore. Everyone thinks that Silent Hill is this place that punishes people for their sins, a kind of purgatory. It isn't that at all. SH1's story is very cryptic but reveals that Cheryl was just projecting her pain onto the town with the help of its power and her psychic abilities. Cybil was just an unfortunate bystander with no "guilt" or lesson that she needed to learn. She was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Also, thanks for giving SH1 its flowers, I TOTALLY agree with you that it needs a remake more than 2 and (unpopular opinion) I think its the best in the series.
Agree
Well said.
Great story. Always said how good SH1 is.
Same goes for 4. Some victims had contact with Walter, others were just at the wrong place at the wrong time like Henry.
If you watch any of the SH1 documentaries (there are numerous on youtube) you'll notice that team silent just copypasted Steven King's "Myst", which, in turn, was created during all the craze around mystical stuff. In a nutshell, SH1 was just a fever dream. SH2 was an attempt to make something more original and universal in a way, and they succeeded. Also, you could easily argue that Silent Hill is indeed a sort of purgatory for sinners, especially if you deem the ending where Harry is dead after the initial car accident as a canon ending.
Oh my gosh. Silent Hill 1 TOTALLY needs a remake more than 2. Now I'm not holding my breath that the remake will be that good (the OG being lighting in a bottle and all that) but if it is, that's great. But Shattered Memories taught us that that there is so much potential with the original's premise. Let's see it!
Rather than having YET ANOTHER beloved classic remade, I think it'd be far better to simply make enhanced ports the original game for modern gaming platforms that have some quality-of-life enhancements, but is otherwise completely faithful to the original in terms of content and presentation. Basically, give us better frame rates, internal resolution, simple stuff like that. No need to go overboard because, as you said, the original game was already lightning in a bottle.
The problem with many older games that have gotten remakes is that the original games are no longer being sold in any capacity on modern platforms, which includes Silent Hill 1. Unless you sail the seven seas or are willing to spend an arm and leg for an aging physical copy, you're pretty much S.O.L. if you don't already own a copy of the game.
Remaking games while doing nothing to make the original game's they're based on available on modern platforms just feels like we're just replacing classic games with newer games that have a shinier coat of paint on them. In that sense, these games might as well be no different to disposable toys rather than pieces of interactive art that many people like to state they are.
All that being said, I don't care if fans remake games because they're not the ones who are able to distribute the original games on the current market. They can do whatever they want for all I care. Besides, they're more likely to make something that's actually worth playing since their remakes are made as passion projects rather than easy cash grabs for companies.
EDIT: Comment got posted before I was finished writing it, so I had to edit it to remedy that.
@@Genesjss I'll take either at this point. A remake, a remaster. It doesn't matter. Just good Silent Hill is all I ask for.
@Cyraxior Well I can certainly understand that desire, wholesale. I'd love to just have a good Silent Hill game made again rather than a mediocre/crappy entry that misses the mark across the board. It just seems like these series just can't get a good modern entry to save its life. I'm pretty much at the point to where I just simply want games to stop being made for the series altogether so it's legacy doesn't get watered down even more than it already has. The most recent entries are complete jokes to me, and what I currently know and have seen of the SH2 Remake so far is NOT filling me with confidence that Bloober Team is going to stick the landing with THAT game, either.
I know I'm VERY jaded on the present state of Silent Hill, and NOT enthusiastic towards what's on the immediate horizon, so I know some people are going to ignore what I say about things like the upcoming SH2 Remake by virtue of my words raining on the more optimistic fans' parade. But at the very least I don't think most people would be against the original Silent Hill games being made available for modern platforms so people can go play those without needing to jump through some extra hoops if they want. Having that is certainly better than having no option to play them at all.
Konami lost or accidentally deleted the original Silent Hill data. So i heard. So that's why we never had a port or it being added the ps3 collection which only had 2 and 3, but where also not great ports😅. I do agree its been so long we heard anything about Silent Hill until that PT was stopped and now SH 2 remake. We do need a proper remaster of the og Silent Hill. Thankfully i still have my ps1 game as well download on ps3 if i ever get that itch to go back to that town.....Silent hill😱
@stark5679 Yeah, they likely no longer have the source code for SH1, so that option for creating a port of it for other platforms is effectively gone.
However, a program was recently created and released for the Nintendo 64 emulation scene that allows users to decompile and recompile N64 roms and create fully functioning PC executables of your own N64 games using the C programming language, and people have already started using it to begin creating enhanced PC ports of several notable N64 games, adding support for higher internal resolutions, higher framerates, true widescreen, and other quality of life enhancements and features. The program in question that creates these decompiled roms is very easy and quick to use, so even a beginner could create playable PC ports of their N64 games within a manner of minutes.
I bring this up because I can easily see someone eventually coming along and creating a similar tool for PSX games, even if it'll still take some time to see it happen. For Silent Hill 1 specifically, using a tool similar to the one I just mentioned and just decompiling and recompiling the game could allow users to create an enhanced port of SH1 without ever needing to get their hands on the original source build for the game which Konami no longer has. It's still possible to make ports of SH1, enhanced ones at that, but like I said, we'll have to wait until an easy method to decompile and recompile PSX games comes around like it recently had in the N64 scene.
The Portishead posters in the diner! ❤️
"Jody...where are you going??" He says in his calm indoor voice, sitting in the car, as Jody is already a dot on the horizon lol
Thanks so much for sharing the demo ^^, I'm a follower of your work (Fan of Resident Evil and Silent Hill so of course I would follow a channel called "Ink Ribbon"!).
To answer some questions you had :
- Yes I worked on this alone (only on my weekends when I was working at my former job)
- I released this demo a year ago (worked on this for a year and a half as it was my first time doing a fully playable game - This explains the few bugs and the lack of polish/ optimisation).
- I never was contacted by Konami to shut down the project, it was always intended as a free playable demo (and I never wanted to have any problems with Konami)
- This was made so that I can show people what I could do on my own to work on my own IP afterwards (Right now working on a playable demo of the original Metal Gear Solid, but this will be my last "fan-made" project :) )
For those who don't know there are few more objects and easter eggs hidden in the demo, I won't spoil the fun for every one as there's a riddle to find an alternative appearance for Harry ;)
I tried this game a while ago, literally unplayable on keyboard & mouse, and I didn't have a controller. Hope you can fix the keybinding in this game to be more like RE2 remake. 😢
Amazing work! Well done! :D
Also super good work with the facial expressions (and voice acting)! This is great
I hope the rest of the Silent Hill franchise gets this same treatment!
You seriously want to butcher all the games beyond repair and recognition?? Get lost!
Play the Team Silent's original games. Their atmosphere and design beat the living hell out of this sort of UE5 slop.
we need that intro in the official Remake its a 10/10 detail, this guy is amazing
Harry's wife was clearly modeled after Zoey Deschanel
That moment a fan remake looks so good, I hope they continue this
This looks absolutely awful.
@@GugureSux It looks good for an indie remake
Those Portishead posters! Only a real fan would understand!
14:31 Cybil originally says "don't go blasting me by mistake" which is foreshadowing the boss fight way later in the game. You are not supposed to shoot her, lest you want the bad ending.
damn never noticed that lol
This game needs a serious remake, more than SH2. They should've done it first, hopefully they'll do it in the near future.
No, it does not. SH1 is literally perfect.
@GugureSux Yes, but I wish they remade it during the PS2 era like Capcom did with the first Resident Evil. There was a big graphical jump from the PS1 to the PS2.
@@GugureSux That's why it needs a remake
@@Mr.Ditkovich. SH was released in 1999, RE OG was in 1996. Probably too soon to remake it on the PS2 which was only released a couple years later. But maybe PS3 era, they have left it too long and then skipped it by remaking SH2 instead 🤔
@CL-Filmz No, if it was made during the PS3 era, it would have been one of those generic over the shoulder 3rd person action horror games. I just want it to look better without changing the gameplay and camera (basically just like SH2 and 3). It took Capcom only 6 years to remake the first game and probably would have taken them less if they didn't add all the new things.
I love it when fans are so passionate. This looks absolutely amazing 👏🏽
The camera moved while in the alleyway is so good. I hope many horror game do this. Change the camera from 3rd person to "fixed" camera perspective for some moment instead of just 3rd person only.
That's actually a great question that you brought up about Cybil, and I'm glad you did. I'm a huge fan of the Team Silent SH series. It's been ages since I played the first game. To this day I'm still discovering things about this series that I never knew, and I don't think I've really ever asked myself if Cybil has her own personal reasons/issues for being in Silent Hill. You can't really say that she was put there to be Harry's protector cause they're constantly separated, plus she doesn't even see the Otherworld like Harry does.
No, sir. You can't run away from them. If you manage to slip pass the the tiny giggling nightmares, your way back is now blocked off by a fence
Too bad Konami couldn’t put together something like this 🙂
They could but don't want
Totally agree. This needs the remake. SH2 is fine as it is.
Path from the alleyway is blocked off in the original if you try to escape.
I been saying that for years we need silent hill one remake it’s a gem
No, we don't. Leave it alone.
Man, this is insane, level of care and dedication to this is god tier
Excellent Demo! Fans really bring wonderful projects, If they have studio and money they could bring modern games with the old spirit ones. Congratulation for them.
Undoubtly Silent Hill 1 deserves a REMAKE, but one thing we need understand is that enterprises have marketing view and Silent Hill 2 is the most popular SH of all the games and because of that was the aim of KONAMI for the first REMAKE (could be beyond that because SH2 not have conection with the lore of SH1 and 3).
I'm very sure Silent Hill 1 will be the second REMAKE that KONAMI will bring, if they not working on a SH 1 Remake right now "out of cameras".
You could put the link to download this DEMO bro.
*Who want play the DEMO search for the vídeo in the Maxime THOMAS LE DEORE channel, have the download link in the description.*
NO VIRUS
in the original you can't runaway from the grey children because the way you came through is blocked by fence
correct but remember the Gray Children are from the stupid movie, in the game they're Mumblers
I looked it up, and the mumblers are those brown versions that show up later, and gray children are the ones at the start.@GothMermaidGamer
@@GothMermaidGamer the grey children are the original uncensored enemies, the mumblers are there as censorship
@@GothMermaidGamer
Okay first : the SH 1 movie is GOATed, second : grey children are in the game, just not every version
@@cloudfoxdie no dude, they Grey children are an invention of the film, they have different names in the game
Larval Stalker, Stalker, Mumbler, Clawfinger
Clawfingers replaced the mumblers in the censored versions
Cybil was there to investigate drug trafficking in the city
It's amazing that a small group of people made this remake. Definitely seeing the love and dedication they put into this remake. Let us hope that Konami's Silent Hill 2 remake will be as faithful as this fan made game.
A sheriff department can deputize civilians in an emergency, but Cybil is probably just a regular traffic cop. Even then they usually don't distribute weapons.
It's made by fans but the polish is quite decent! I loved the actual preservation of the camera angles too, tthey were a great touch. I really wanna see a SH1 remake.
Wouldn't it make more sense to do 2 remake first? That way they can do 1&3 back to back since they have directly related stories
I loved the new Cybil and Harry dialogue. It made so much more sense and fleshed out the characters very nicely.
I would gladly sit here and watch an entire playthrough. This was great
Portishead posters in the cafe was a nice touch. They're a 90s triphop band. Basically the main innovators of the genre and the games after this one all had triphop style music for the OSTs.
Remake Dino Crisis next
My god this is awesome. I still own my PS1 version of the game on disk.
The characters look really good, Harry is so handsome!
For a fan made game, this is really impressive
I feel like gaming was more of an immersive experience, and therefore more scary, back in the 90s, because we didn't have distractions like we have now. No phones, tablets, social media.
I remember just sitting in front of the TV, playing SH and being totally scared but wanting to keep playing. Had to play with the lights on and I ended up not being able to play it on my own lol.
Despite being a indie one person project, this is much better looking than the SH2 remake by a long mile.
@15:15 - I think Cybil is a collateral damage in all of these. She happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
But yeah, without her, no one will give Harry the gun he really needed.
Damn, I'm catching all my faves early today!!
Oustanding facial animations and pretty good voice acting
This brings me so nostalgia
It's unreal
This is an awesome fan remake! And I love watching you play these types of games
I had the same rule when I was a kid, to play SH1 only during the day. It felt so scary when I first played it that I told my mom I didn't like it anymore and wanted to return it to the shop and change it for a different one. And that was after playing just the first 5 minutes of the game 😂😂... so glad I gave it another chance, it became one of my favourite games!!
same! I think that silent hill one is still the best and is the one that many should actually consider the most famous tbh.
You look more and more buff, Kai. Great progress.
The demo looks awesome. A SH1 remake would make a lot of people very happy.
This looks so good!
And I think they won't make "another" SH1 remake because we got Shattered Memories (although it's not exactly a remake but yeah)
Silent Hill 1 is my favorite, I'd love to see it get a remake
Portishead posters! Yuss!
To see this level of talent form fans make my heart happy, gaming came along way
Harry looks like Bill Pullman from Lost Highway.
I hope Konami / Bloober hire the people who made this. Excellent work 👏
Dude that looks amazing. Actualy thats how i saw it in my head back than. Now i see it with my ayes =)
I always thought it was implied that Cybil crashed her bike the same way Harry crashed his car: seeing Alessa in the road. When you watch the original opening Harry turns quite a ways around to look at the motorcycle and then after a couple of cuts it shows the view from behind Alessa and you can see the bike along the side of the road as Harry is distracted enough he can't brake in time and crashes trying to avoid hitting her. I'm not explaining very well but basically Cybil dodges Alessa and crashes and winds up in Fog World (which is why she's not visible), Harry is distracted by her bike, barely avoids Alessa, and crashes ending up in Fog World but maybe he doesn't transition until he wakes up and that's why Cybil doesn't see his crash.
Lisa's death scene in a remake is going to make me an emotional wreck.
THIS is how a remake should like.
Pretty cool seeing the Portishead posters in the diner, seeing as the title theme of the original actually sounds like a Portishead track.
Can we get a fan remake of RE3R so it’s not shit?
@@pauls6416 there was a Brazilian fanmade RE3 remake but last time I tried it it was an alpha
idk what the state of the game is right now
Exactly where are all these Fan Project RE3R remakes that many people started lol
There are just two people that still working on it but they taking a bit long...
It's not shit. It's just too short.
@@whistlestopwonders yep, what's there is great, it's just not enough
@@Keyboardeater1 shame they made that RE online mode and didn't lengthen the campaign and add mercenaries:operation mad jackal.
Great job! But again i think what makes silent hill game play so iconic is the original camera style.
You mean, re-remake one, don't forgot about Shattered Memories. And yeah, this fan game looks beautiful. Konami, come watch this, lol.
I'd seen this a few weeks ago, it looks incredible!
I honestly don't know if Harry's face or voice is better, this is insane
This is something incredible. Can't believe it's a fan game.
Wow this is truly amazing i wana get this one. I played the 1999 version ps1
Whoa this looks amazing!
As my buddy use to say after taking a strong hit "this is some high quality shit"
*10:55** No hope, the map change and you're trapped. Amazing Fanmade Remake, these guys are super talented. BTW, hope you get some nice sleep.*
*11:26** nice details in the Portishead posters, that band was a huge inspiration for Akira Yamaoka.*
This looks pretty nice, just wonder if they would remake SH 1, would be lovely!!
What a remake SHOULD BE! 😊❤
That game was so eerie, creepy but I finished it.
I like how she totally flags him with the pistol instead of handing it over grip first.
We need this remake.
The voice acting is great!
If I were doing a remake, I would 100% change how Harry get a handgun.
As you mention NO COP would willingly give their weapon to a random person, no matter what.
I think this could actually play very well into the game, forcing the player to run away from fights from the 1st 30-40 mins in the game. Sure, you get the knife but soon enough you will discover that it's not great because the reach is small and the damage too low. Maybe they could go the RE way and keep the knife for other uses (opening and cutting things).
I think that it would be better that Harry finds a gun and saves Cybil and in turn, Cybil will help Harry to "upgrade" the weapon (when we find enough parts).
Indeed I agree with you. The only reason why Konami is remaking SH2/MGS3 is because they're the most popular games. Also, Konami MUST be aware of their terrible reputation, so in order to boost it they decided to go the safe way
Silent hill 1 has technically already had a remake it was called silent hill shattered memories.
10:41 oh shit that scary moment still here
Kai, you're always glowing
We love you Kai.
Dude you look like a young William Marshall-Green. Ink Ribbon is hot!
Harry's VA is top notch
Holy crap this is what I wanted! I need to get a pc asap.
This brought back so many memories. I was a young kid when this came out and my little bro was even younger lol. He really wanted to watch me play so I tried to make the story sound a bit goofier. I can't remember the name of the actual cult or evil dude cuz I always referred to him as Sam I Am and how this whole thing was a large, tortuous trap to force Harry into trying green eggs and ham. It is absolutely hilarious to me that I played games like that as a kid but I won't let my own kid play one at the same age or watch me play one. I didn't do myself any favors giving myself a primal fear of school restrooms after playing Silent Hill lol. That is still one of the creepiest parts of any SH game I've played. It's honestly up there with the mirror from SH3. Think it just hits harder when you're a kid. I'd love a full remake of this.
This demo is so cool mate! Silent Hill is one of my favourite games. Yo've earned yourself a subscriber. I 100% agree with you, they should have remade the original Silent Hill before deciding to remake the second one. But I'm looking forward to Silent Hill 2 when it releases.
Jodie looks like Zooey Deschanel!
The Portishead poster!
When a fan is better doing Silent Hill than Konami itself.
harry looks like the dude from La noire
Silent hill needs a remake
I tried going back but the exit is blocked
i was just re-watching your re during the storm livestream when this came out!
( Im also still waiting for the day u play X files resist or serve on the PS2 )
looks cool
Small detail. They need to add the foot steps. And the music in the cafe when you first meet cyble was eerie. They should have added that to. Excellent vid tho G
Wow. This demo looks so amazing, i wish that if someday will be a remake of SH1 and Harry will look the same like in this demo.
Surprised we haven’t heard from Kai regarding the gog resident evil releases.
Silent Hill 1 deserve a remake! And I agree with him at 0:22
EDIT : I remember playing this game in PS1 with my brother. And when we talk about a remake, both of us agreed that Silent Hill 1 need to have a remake.
EDIT 2 : The voice acting in this fan remake is amazing!
I remember playing the demo when it first came out. Those sirens freaked me out. Made it feel like the end of the world was happening
How am i getting in touch to the developers and tell them to finish this.
In the original game, the alley part in the beginning will block you off with a fence when the grey children spawn.
So when does the full version of this game come out?
