  • This is one of the best golf swing tips for consistency and power - taught to us by ball striking legend, Ben Hogan. Through this very simple golf swing tip, you will hit more fairways, pure your irons, and hit the ball farther than ever before.
Ben Hogan gave us this awesome golf tip in his book - Ben Hogan's 5 Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf. He talks about the importance of the position of the arms and elbows in the setup. Most golfers know to KEEP THE ARMS STRAIGHT, but did you know that the position of your elbows is equally as critical?
If your elbows are not in the proper position, your golf swing will demonstrate the following issues:
    1. Golf Swing OFF-PLANE
    2. BREAKDOWN of the Arms during the golf swing
    3. INCONSISTENT Contact with the golf ball
    4. POWER LOSS in the golf swing
    5. ACCURACY PROBLEMS with your golf shots
    and more......
This golf swing tip is so simple and important that it affects your entire swing - get set like this tip and you'll eliminate swing issues and compensations that cause your swing to fail.

I am Tom Saguto, PGA Member and founder of SagutoGolf. Thank you for visiting my instructional page where you can find how to get on the fast track to improving your golfing abilities. Whether you are a seasoned golfing veteran looking for a quick swing tune-up after an on-course emergency, or a beginner just looking to get the most out of your golfing experience, I am here to help you achieve your golfing goals.
My mission as your swing doctor is simple, to help you maximize your enjoyment in game of golf. Because, let’s face it, golf is a hard game.
My philosophy is wholly based on the student having a fun, meaningful experience in a frustrating and complicated game where potential lifelong golfers either quit because it is too difficult or that they experience some form of swing-related pain or discomfort. I mitigate these problems by focusing entirely on the student’s needs and goals while teaching a golf swing method that ultimately takes stress off of the common pain areas of the swing.

This is a find I needed.
Since I have started playing regularly again. I have been doing the "Hogan Arms" thing not knowing if it was correct or not. Sometimes I did it and sometimes I didn't. It just seemed that if I incorporated it with everything it just worked. But now having confirmation by Tom will only make me more confident in becoming a better golfer.
I am only 3 weeks in with this Saguto guy and I am hitting the ball better and more consistently than ever. Long, straight high flying birds.
Stack, tilt, turn and take that divot. Did I say take that divot?
This Hogan arm thing makes me feel good that I had actually figured something out myself and with Saguto's confirmation it only emboldens me to get better. It's empowering when you get the strength that comes from knowing.
At 65 years old I have some really bad habits and it is difficult to change. Especially your golf swing.
You take yourself for granted that you have reached your peak when it comes to golf and you are content to be mediocre and hit in the '90s (high '90s).
But I'm a good guy who is willing to buy the drinks so I get invited to play. I think if I get into the 80' 0r the 70's I will get invited to play more and someone else will have to buy.
I have tried to do everything Tom teaches. I may not be doing it all right but it has changed my game forever.
Yes, he is a little,........different. but spot on the money.

Tom, I found your videos at the start of the COVID lockdown (UK) when all I could do was practice the swing in the garden. Now we’ve been playing again I have been pretty much hitting handicap or better every round and no back ache. Yesterday my game took a dip with more hooks than I’d ever had and I didn’t know why until I watched this. I’d let right elbow go behind (slot machine). I was in despair for a while until I watched this video and it identified the issue for me. Thanks Tom.

Tom has this odd style, but somehow I really like it. It’s like he talks directly at you. On top of that, this stack and tilt way has completely changed my game, since the courses re-opened here in Europe I shot over 30 stableford every time and on a European Tour course in the Netherlands even 39 stableford. And I am pretty sure I am still missing to do some key points in this swing methodology. Just the basic fundamental on weight forward has been huge already. I was given a mint condition copy of Ben Hogan’s Five Lessons printed in 1985. I read through it and spent about 2 hours on the range before I played 9 holes. I hit every FIR and nearly hit each GIR. I shot a 45 bc my short game was way off (first round in a few months). But this video is correct. I’ve never seen the ball flights this swing produces. The ball goes up and keeps going up way farther than I’m accustomed. I’m a 12-14 HI any given month. My short game is historically my best game so hopefully this will lead to breaking 80 in 2022.

Love your vids they are the best on youtube for info and fun. I discovered this secret about 3 years ago and can confirm regardless of how it feels it's a major consistency and distance booster. I never really thought of it in terms of my elbows but will now, instead I felt like I was rotating my forearms particularly the trail one towards the ball. This would cause my elbow to stay closer to my side at the top of the swing and had my club more laid off something I'd been trying to do. I also am a big believer in connecting the left or target side arm with the tricep to the peck as far down as the nipple. I initially did this with wedges and short irons but found that the reason I struggled with long irons, hybrid and woods was that connection was above the nipple. When i tightened it up and got a tad closer to the ball it steepened my swing, I found my low point much more often and my overdraws or pulls became beautiful baby draws. I do caution that connecting like this with driver doesn't work, rather feel the inside of the tricep connected to the outside of the peck and not as far down. This is needed due to the ball position being more forward in the stance but having the trail elbow tucked is huge with driver and will add yards and a more consistency. Finally, doing this in my opinion makes it a lot harder to go caveman and swing over the top, your elbows will get closer not further away at the top. If there is a huge gap between your arms the over the top swing is a lot easier to do. I have taught my son to swing and these are major checkpoints and as mentioned in the video it is so subtle you can miss it. Even though I have implemented it into my routine I too have played several holes and realized my issue was my elbows.

Prior to golf my love was basketball and I played in college so I am a good athlete but my addiction to golf is why I have made giant strides as I put in the work which isn't work cause I can't get enough of it. I came across another one of your videos about 6 months ago regarding simplifying things and it synced up perfectly with what I had decided to do about 3 years ago, essentially employing a Steve Stricker style swing. My connection that I mentioned in my comment also suggest that my swing is based on rotation, I try to take the arms out of it.

Mr. Hogan timelessly delivers tremendous instructional value, right?! But there are just so many misconceptions about Hogan’s swing out there - particularly within the realm of misunderstood or misapplied instruction - that have sadly relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration. We're doing our best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness, because if we can get Hogan right there is tremendous instructional value to be garnered!!
