  • This time I'm Mixing it up with my Miata, Harley! I had to work quickly with the impending threat of a combo of an upcoming storm, and intense southern heat without AC. I hope this helps, enjoy!
    I was able to repair my window motor regulator cable with the help of a video like this one;
    • Opel Astra Window Regu...
    And I was able to do all of this, with the gracious lending of shop space and tools from fantastic Exomotive! Thanks so much!
    If you found this helpful, anything you'd like to contribute would be greatly appreciated!

    The regulator cables snapped and the window bushing was shot on my 1990 Miata, but your guide made it easy to take the door apart and find the problem. Thanks.

    Amazing video and I loved the commentary! I’m actually converting my driver window back to power from manual! (the old owner converted the power window to manual and I just picked up a power window motor and regulator but, with snapped cables :/ ) Quick question though, did you just hook up the motor to the manual regulator or did you actually have to take the cables off of the manual regulator and move it onto the power regulator or is it all just the same? Thanks! (I plan on using the manual regulator instead of having to move the wires to the power regulator)

    • @summerdelsol
      @summerdelsol  Před 5 lety

      Hey Raymar! Excited to hear about your swap, it's definitely worth it for quick and easy window use, even with the hassle of repair/replacement. I filmed this a while back, and edited more recently, so forgive me if my memory fails me on every detail. I do know that I unwound the cable from the manual regulator and re-wrapped it into the electric one. If I remember correctly, there was some sort of metal spiral component in the manual one that wasn't at all similar to the electric one so that was why I pulled it. If I can find the tutorial I used online I'll comment again with it. It was my intention to link it, but by the time I finally put this video together, unfortunately I couldn't find it again.

    • @summerdelsol
      @summerdelsol  Před 5 lety

      Hey Cameron, it definitely is! This was all done over a few hours (most of the time involved filming) so you should be good to go in a day, as long as you have the components to replace a broken cable with you.

      Hey John, NA in the Miata world means it's a "first generation" model type. NA is the pop-up bodystyle, NB is the following bodystyle (my Yellow car in another one of my videos), NC is the third generation of Miata styling (boats), and ND is the modern, newest body style. They get those shorthand letter combos from the VIN plates, and each generation starts with the corresponding letters. This is the very simplified version of course, but in short, NA's are far from rare, but they are starting to appreciate over the newer models and are likely to overtake NB prices (they have already for a decent one in my area at least). An NA in great shape can fetch a pretty price now depending on specs! Hope this helps, let me know if you have any more questions!

    Plastic trim removal tools are very inexpensive and can pop off the door panel much more easily than any screwdriver and are much more gentle.

    I have a new motor but no regulator. Online prices show the manual regulators at about half the price as an auto. So you can confirm that I can fit a manual regulator to the auto motor?

    • @summerdelsol
      @summerdelsol  Před 5 lety

      So, your motor didn't come with the cables or anything? I'd hate to try and guarantee that it would work, as it was so long ago, and I don't have a visual of everything that you have/would need. I can tell you that I was able to take apart the manual regulator, remove the cable from the housing (it was in a metal spiral for the wind up/down function) and re-spool that cable into the regulator of the power motor and the metal slide arm. All that to say, the metal component that sits in the door should be the same. I hope I've written that out to make sense, but let me know if that doesn't answer it, or if you have some more details I can use to clarify what else you might need.

    I was gonna do this, but if I have to sacrifice a beer to the car gods.. well, that may be a price too high. I mean really, does it really hurt so bad to wait for slow windows? And, wouldn't the beer you so needlessly sacrificed have soothed that pain. Deep philosophy here.. need more beer.

      I'll let you in on a secret...I had my mechanical penis with me the whole time! How else could I have gotten the job done as a sweet little southern gal? Jokes aside, I appreciate your sentiment, but I hope I can shed some light on this kind of language that adds an additional barrier to entry for a lot of women in the automotive field. If you want to see more women in the field like I know you do, it's important not to bring others down in order to complement someone, along with dubbing it a job strictly for guys . A small gesture goes a long way, and I'm glad you liked the video. Thanks for watching!
