Ayy Squelch Squad! Hope you enjoy this oddly non muddy adventure with our good friend and pottery legend Richard Hemery! Our first lark on the Thames was so successful and we can’t wait to be back for more soon 🥰
Thank you so much for watching + anyone who has supported us on Etsy or Ko-if!!
lots of love,
Josie + Andy
It’s ok! I think you dad needed a break from the mud after his slip…

I just love Richard ❤! He is so interesting and knowledgeable!
It’s so fascinating learning from him and finding out more about these sherds! 🥰
Richard is a wealth of knowledge. Having someone to learn from is invaluable.
Hello Sonny, it really is 😊
It was great to see you with Richard again. He is an endless fountain of pottery knowledge.
So very true! He’s a legend! Thanks for watching and take care
A day out with Richard is like being on a dig with a archeologist!
I hope you enjoyed being able to find treasures without all the mud . I loved going along with you!
Thanks Kelly! Haha yes, it’s just so awesome learning from him! 😀 must say we did miss the mud but it was really nice to try something different
Hey, Mudpies didn’t recognise you without the mud, bit like Santa without his beard lol. Very nice trip to the Thames and the wonderful Richard too. Thanks for taking us along.
A pleasure Alan, rest assured we will be back in the mud very, very soon ! x
I started with watching Nicola White Mudlark, then Si-Finds Thames Mudlark and Northen Mudlarks. Mudpies popped up on my recommend for you. I thought I would give it a quick look see. Now I watch Mudpies more than all the others put together. I love watching you two and get so excited when I see a new episode out.
Awh thanks so much Rebecca! So lovely to hear you’re enjoying the channel! Those others are great too 😍❤️
I def can put up with the lack of squelch for a Thames lark with Richard Hemery!
Haha yes, it’s awesome larking with Richard! Plenty of mud next week 😎🙌
I love Richard HEMERY….A TRUE LEGEND FOR SURE. HE IS THE BEST. THANK YOU ALL👍from CALGARY CANADA. WELL DONE
He really is and a mine of information 😀👍
Mudpies and Richard are always a delight to watch! Y’all go well together. Love the foreshore adventure. Bartman, Roman, Tudor wow quite a span across time. Can’t wait for the next mud adventure! 😎
Thanks so much! We love hanging out with Richard. 😀 back to the mud for next week’s episode but we are meeting up with ‘the Aussie mudlark’ on the Thames very soon!
I bet Dad loved having company along for the fun. And Richard Hemery of all folks made his day. The finds are special and well dated. I would love a Bartman jug too. Blessings and loved the ending bits
Thanks Jeriann it was a great day out ! We will be doing a return trip ...this time out in the mud ! 😀
Hiya! It’s unbelievable how Andy is a Roman pottery magnet; and finds such amazing pieces! I’m thinking, if Josie can find an Onion bottle, she should be on the top of the list to find a complete Bartmann jug.
Richard Hemery is legendary.
My favorite find has to be the musket ball.
Thanks for the great adventure! Good luck on your next finds!
Thank you ! I'm not sure what it is with Roman items, I just love them !
Great video. I could listen to Mr. Hemery talk about the history behind the artifacts all day. Thank you!
Hey Darla! You and i both haha, it’s fascinating listening to him 😀 thanks for watching and take care
I had to watch this twice, what a great adventure! I found myself holding my breath when you were unearthing the Bartmann neck! Wow! The pipes, the garnets and pins, y'all truly found some classic Thames mementos! Great video Mudpies! Richard is so much fun to watch, his knowledge blows me away every time. Have an amazing week Josie, Andy and Richard!
Hello Julianne, they were all first time classics for us, we loved it ! We left the scene clean (relatively) and had the pleasure of Richards company it was a great day out. You have a good week too, take care x
It is on my bucket list to go treasure hunting on the Thames! I live vicariously through y’all and SiFinds 😀
Hey Christy! Awh that’s awesome, yes the Thames was great fun, though we did miss the mud a bit 😂
Richard is always so willing to share his love of pottery and history with anyone who wants to know. Great finds for both. And the Bartman is a heart stopper. Ive seen them in Germany. Many families have them that are passed down. I love the Pins. Now you know where the term Pin money came from. Wives saved their craft money or allowance to buy pins. Over a hundred pins were used to secure a modest house dress. Pins were so expensive here in America, women sold their urine for saltpeter to make gunpowder to buy pins.
Hello Mary, yes Richard is very generous with his knowledge and time - and we were very grateful too! I had no idea how important and widely used pins were. Take care 😀
Yay!!!! What a great day! That bartman neck was a heart stopper! Can't wait for another mudventure with Richard Hemery!
Yes it was! We will get him back out in the mud and hoover up his lovely historical knowledge, take care 😀
Those finds just got better and better. How wonderful to have Richard along with his encyclopaedic mind of knowledge on all things pottery. Fascinating video to watch.
Thanks Lorna, we really appreciated Richards knowledge! 😄
What a lovely day! I loved hearing all the history tidbits from Richard. He has so much knowledge to share.
Thanks Sadie! It really is awesome just listening to Richard speak and explain all the wonderful history behind these finds 😀
Oh I just loved this one. Richard is so awesome and your enthusiasm to explore the Thames and try out a totally different kind of mudscape was such fun. I also really appreciated that when you do a collaboration that you include a lot of the other person you’re working with and camera shots of them as well as some of their footage which makes for an integrative viewing experience. I hope you do more together. Great finds too.
Hey Leigh! Oh that’s such a wonderful comment, thanks for the lovely feedback! Pleasure to hear you enjoyed it + we most definitely be doing more with Richard! We are back on the Thames in a couple days time to meet up with ‘the Aussie Mudlark’ and can’t wait! 🙌
@@Mudpies Have fun with the Aussie Mudlark, he’s awesome too and I hope you find some grapeshot with him! As well as lots of other great things
What a joy to see 3 smiling, lovely people. How lovely of Richard to guide you
Awh thanks Julianne! It was epic to have him as our guide for the day 😀
This was a wonderful adventure! Thank you all! I hope you all join up and do this again!
Richard's a dude : ) I have great respect for him . Congrats on the beaker and the Bart ; unassuming genius with a great generosity of spirit . I am a big fan ; so great to see you in his company . Cant wait till you are all out again finding more Roman
Well said!😀
This has been an excellent mudlarking adventure for you all! Nice to see Richard too! Love the Garnet's and pins 👍✌️🌞
Thanks so much Trina! Really pleased you enjoyed it, was great fun to hang out with Richard 😀🙌
I am loving all of these mudlarker meet-ups! Thanks so much for bringing us along.

Always great to have Richard along. Thank you for making him an official Mudpies w the shirt! Can't beat those Mudpies smiles! Makes me happy 😊! Stevie
Thanks so much Stevie, Richard is a full member of the squelch squad😃!
In Southern U.S. no such history here. I'm always jelly at everything y'all find. I've always been a Roman history lover. Grats on every find and thank for letting me watch.
Awh thanks for watching Jody! It’s incredible how much history the Thames carries, we really do feel so lucky to be able to explore this… Look forward to sharing more of these adventures with you! 🙌
uuummmmmmm theres this little unknown event that happened all over the south, maybe youve heard of the US CIVIL WAR!!!! theres bound to be relics around you somewhere lol. not to mention native american relics everywhere here.
@@thurin84 ok you are very correct. I've got a nice arrow head and pottery collection over the years. But was no battles around me for quite a few miles. Plus I like the Roman pottery and finds. Not to much Roman artifacts around least I've never seen it anyway. Now if I really want interesting I can dig through some old trash pits from the 1920' to the 50' have found some interesting bottles but yet any Roman that I'm interested in. Lol
@@jodysales2362 same here. a few skirmishes a few hours from me but nothing nearby. and i myself would love to find some old roman stuff. rumors are they may have reached the north eastern coastline before the vikings, but ive never seen or heard any confirmation. ah well, we can live vicariously through our uk mudlark kindred spirits. i would also love to be able to dig up ww1 and 2 stuff. but alas, nothing much here in the ground. i used to dig through the trashpile at of the old family homesight. found a couple interesting bits, but not much. fun time though. except for the snakes.
@@thurin84 if I ever get to go up to the north east I want to go to Dead Horse Bay in New York city area. Look it up they are some good CZcams videos of it. Very cool place.
Learning journey for us all. This was so much fun. Thank you 🙏 Richard for guiding us all.
Thanks for watching Corinne! It’s great just to listen to Richard talk isn’t it 😀 he’s so knowledgeable!
Now to see you legends with Nicola and Northern Mudlarks. I want to buy my shirt! Ps hubs and I were at an antique store yesterday and saw a straight columnar ginger with a little handle and I said "I've not see THAT before." Get home and watch dad pull a straight sided ginger with a wee handle and I squealed out loud. Thanks for allowing an American mudlark-at-heart to share along with your epic adventures and I have already pointed hubs to your etsy for future presents :)
Hey Tara! We would loooove to meet up with Nicola and the northerns! I’m sure we will be able to soon… Ayy haha love this story about the ginger, how awesome! 😍 Thanks so much for watching and apologies on our delayed reply. Take care!x
I just love Richard! He is so knowledgeable and so very sweet! ❤️
💜💜💜💜💜❗ Thank you for telling the entire story of sugar in just a few letters. It's important to remember some things that brought others great pleasure brought others deep and forever reaching pain and horrors.
Absolutely!!
So glad you had such a wonderful first trip to the Thames! Richard Hemery is so knowledgeable, I would looooove to lark with him.
Thank you Angela! It was great fun and especially because we had Richard as our wonderful guide! 😀
Thanks Richard such a wonderful person.Loved the enjoyment of yall searching the shore for pins, and garnets.
Thanks Jacque, it was great fun to try something different and hang out with Richard! Though we did miss the mud a bit lol 😂
I'd love to spend a day with Richard on the Thames. He is the king of knowledge
Hey Tracey! He really is a pottery knowledge gold mine
Wow, this epic adventure had it all. Great finds, very educational, and beautiful warm hearted treasure hunters. Your video style is so enjoyable and entertaining. Thank you for sharing and taking us all along.
Glad you enjoyed it David😀
"Wedge-it" lol👌 what an awesome array of pipes and Josie's 1/2 pipes finds haha! Also the Roman British beaker base made it worth all the WOW! Great job!
Thank you, we really did not expect to come away with a part Roman beaker !
Oh Richard Hemery...a great guy and so knowledgeable... I could listen to himtalk about stuff all day...
We feel the same way! It’s fascinating all the history he can provide behind what sometimes are such small fragments
So many cool finds so much history and no deep mud my kind of mudlarking..stay lucky...Vic..
Thanks Vic, it was a great day out....without getting muddy !
Very much enjoyed this episode. Love when you both collab with Richard- your eager thirst for knowledge and great positive energy match well with Richards quiet and humble manner. So well done!! Love watching!!!
Hello Nicole, thanks so much for the lovely comment! We really enjoy Richard’s company, hoping to take him out in the mud soon😎🙌 thanks for watching, take care!
Richard and his great mind .... It must be wonderful to know so much about pottery 👍💕💕💕
Hello Marie, I know it brings so much life to the things you pick up. Take care 😄
Wow. I do believe that Richard was gobsmacked at how good you two are at spotting epic stuff. The Bartmann neck & Roman pot were excellent. Can you imagine wearing clothes held together with pins? Every time you moved, you'd get pricked!! LOL Thank goodness for the invention of sewing. ;) Great fun on the foreshore. Looking forward to the next mudventure. Take care & stay safe.
Hello Noralee, we were very lucky and totally pleased with the finds. We took the Roman beaker to the finds liaison officer today for recording which was awesome. Yes, I'm very grateful we don't have to wear clothes needing pinning everyday , what an ordeal ! Take care and see you in our natural muddy environment next week 😀
I had a mental picture of you running across Si and Nicola and throwing pipe stems and pottery shards at each other while arguing about who’s patch of mud was who’s. Always love the Roman finds, but your display case in the background is pretty awesome itself.
Hahah I love that! Pleased you like the display too 😀
Great fun! Of course you took the ladder instead of the stairs. 😆
Probably the best perk of being internet-mudlarking-famous is being able to go out with someone as knowledgeable as Richard. Amazing finds, you two!
Loved seeing your adventure. Very different type of hunting - less mud, smaller finds, having to get on hands and knees to look for stuff. It is amazing the range and variety of finds. The beaker bottom is my favorite, followed by the Bartman pieces. Interesting to learn about the pins. Richard certainly knows his stuff.
Hey Clark! Yes you’re absolutely right, it’s wonderful to find these smaller items and have such a range of age as you say… was a wicked adventure with Richard and look forward to showing you more Thames episodes soon! 🙌
Around minute 16 I was holding my breath waiting for Josie to holler "GARN-IT!" Another great video, such a treat to have Richard join! Thanks!
Hahaha Pinnn ittttt!! Garn-it is a good one. Thanks for watching 🙌
Totally amazing! So glad you were able to walk that wonderful shore with Richard. He knows his stuff doesn't he? You had some fantastic finds, I loves them all. Sadly not any mud! I do like to see the mud. Please stay safe! ❤
Awh thanks Mary! Fear not, plenty of mud in next week’s episode! 🙌
Dad is indeed a ledge!
Biggest ledge!
Fun day!! The Thames reminds of ‘The Hands on Museum’s’ we have here. But it’s open air and full amazing history! The Roman presence there is mind blowing! Thank you for sharing your adventure 🤗
A pleasure Becky 😀
A very nice day on the Thames finding and learning about the pottery and other finds. Thanks for bringing us with you.
Thank you Glenna, you right it was a great day out 😃
This was epic guys !! So excited for you all. I do love the #ThamesPins 😍
Congratulations 🎉 to Richard for finding the wig curler bucket lister. I learn so much from you all it’s amazing!!
Have a lovely week Josie & Andy 🌼
Hey Karyn! Thanks so much, I agree there certainly is something special about the Thames pins! Just couldn’t quite believe how small some of them were lol. Take care and catch you in the next one! 😀
Great video as always! Gotta say that the best part of every video is Josie's smile and excitement.
Awh that’s very sweet, thank you! 😀
Luck to have the Master of Mudlarking with you this day. Very nice finds today. Cheers mates! 🏴😊👍🇺🇸
Thanks Martin! Yesss he’s great fun to have around and always just so good to learn from him. We’ll be taking him out in the mud soon I’m sure 😀 take care + catch you in the next one! X

Hello Jayne, it was lovely to explore a new location and style of searching for us. The span of history was amazing. We will be back in the mud very soon. Take care 😄
What a lot of knowledge Richard Hemery has and such a nice man, he is so willing to share and explain so well what all the fabulous finds are. Josie and Andy you found some great treasures and I love how enthusiastic and appreciative you are. Next trip Josie I hope you find a pipe. Great video very enjoyable to watch ❤️🇦🇺🪃 xxx
Thanks Siona for your lovely feedback, Richard is a proper knowledgeable gent ! Take care 😀
I always love your videos - great to see Hemery too! And as a history teacher, I have to thank you for being one of the mudlarker crews who has the integrity to both appreciate what you're finding and making sure people stay aware of things like the effects of slavery, etc.
Thank you for your feedback, we're really big fans of learning through the things that have been left behind. However we feel you have a responsibility to give as a wide a context as is possible. Take care and have a good weekend 😀
Thanks for a riveting, rewarding Thames mudlark (or lack of mud thereof). You both must have eagle eyes to spot the ancient artifacts. “Intrepid mudpies make their escape”. Rung by rung they make their way back to the future. 🤣❤️😂
Glad you enjoyed it Wendy 😀, it's great to have a guide on the time trip !
Wow an adventure on the Thames with Richard Hemery, too cool 😎 loved it
That’s brilliant to hear, thanks for watching Deb! We will be taking him out in the mud soon I’m sure so stay tuned for that video! 😀
Great video and wonderful to have Richard’s vast knowledge along for the adventure. I’m always amazed that anything at all survives amidst the churning currents and jagged stones of those waterways but sure enough they are there!!!
Glad you enjoyed it, it's so good to have a guide that you can bring random objects to and pick their brain about! Take care😀
An fabulous adventure. Some really amazing finds . So much history in your hands . It's been such fun coming along with your mudlarking journey. 😊❤

Really loved this episode with the legendary Richard Hemery! Absolutely enjoyed you showing a bit more about the area in London where you were - that was amazing!!! Fab guys - so jelly you found all those garnets!!! xo Nicole & Craig
Hello both!! Thank it was very special having a pottery guide to take us along the foreshore, couldn't believe how small garnets are! Dad can barely see them. What would you do with the garnets? 😃

It was great to see you finding things on the Thames. Definitely still love seeing y'all in the mud but it's cool to see you outside of your norm. Great finds as always and yet another wonderful video.
Thanks for watching Sabrina! Haha absolutely, was nice to have a change and we did enjoy the Thames experience, but there’s nothing like being out on that mud 😍 catch you next week for a squelchy one!
Wow! An outstanding lark! I was so tickled to see you on the Thames finding the bits and pieces and pins. I think the slightly rounded bit on the end of your musket ball is called a sprew where it came out of it's mold. Don't blame Richard for taking the stairs at the end. Lol Great finds! I'm so happy for you both! Cheers, Paige
Hey Paige!
Haha yes it was awesome to try something different and quite relaxing searching for the smaller pieces, though I have to say we did miss the mud a little bit lol 😂 thanks for the info on the musket ball! Take care and catch you in the next one! 🙌
Great to see you guys on the Thames. Love Richard So glad to see him with you guys. maybe you guys will be back on the Thames again.
