I'm not sure if this was intentional, but I appreciate how many positive reviews we've been getting this year. Don't get me wrong, Fantano trashing a bad album is amazing entertainment, but I also enjoy him introducing me to great new music.

I just got introduced to this band's unbelievable music this afternoon and am head over heels in love.
One critique of the review's mention of 'You Always Want To Bomb The Middle East'. I don't think the lyrics are an absurd nothingness. The album is fun and surreal as hell, but some songs carry a dry message and this is one such...I think it's a dig at politicos that lust for war rather than, you know, enjoying cheese together and learning each other's languages. Best track on an album with an insanely high bar for quality tracks.
This record edges out The Weeknd as my favourite for the year so far, in much the same fashion as Really From's album did to Lil Bad X's wonderful debut last year (P.S. GO LISTEN TO REALLY FROM, THEY'RE ALSO INDESCRIBABLY FANTASTIC).

anyone who knows Cheekface would know that 'Noodles' is a relevant song since their first album 'Therapy Island' had 'House Shoes' which was just the phrase 'house shoes' on repeat

noodles is such a good track. total ween vibes. great little addition to the tracklists, and even if the album can be a little silly sometimes, i've literally balled my eyes out to tracks like we need a bigger dumpster and next to me so a stupid little track about noodles is a perfect bit of levity in the tracklist as well.

I saw these guys open for Ozma in December 2019 and they were FANTASTIC. Been a fan for about three years now. Was shocked when Fantano said he hadn't heard of them on a stream a year or two back. Don't Get Hit By A Car is a banger.

I love how many genres they were able to put into this record and still make it sound like it was a new fresh enjoyable record you hadn't heard before, because so many times you see artists putting too many genres on their and making it not sound enjoyable and trying to saturated all the bad juices out of the record.
My old band played a house show with them in Long Beach a few years ago when we came through. So so good and such incredibly nice people. Glad you’re covering, more bands like this plz!!
Which band were you in, Bitter Suns, Grease Ball? I think my buddies in Tudors played the same garage at Daniel's house (called Haus of Gigi back then) as you guys that night! (Also the night I started listening to Cheekface religiously)
The frontman in this band was my college professor!
Been a big fan of them since their last LP so glad you reviewed this. Went to see them in Dallas and the crowd was pretty small hopefully this helps them blow up!
Honestly more people need to use the word cheekface in a sentence it's a very underappreciative word

Yessss cheekface! All of their stuff rules. Just as a small note, "I'm feeling good but I'm sure it will pass" at 2:45 isn't actually from "I feel so weird" - it's from their previous album, on the track "Emotional Rent Control." Awesome review all around though :)

There's a presidents of the united states of America/they might be giants vibe about this band. I do think the tunes/riffs aren't as engaging as the lyrics and vocals. I couldn't remember a riff after a couple of listens, but could easily recall vocal passages. Generally enjoyed listening experience though.
great review mr. fantano, please review daricacore 3 its so good or berdloycore 0 is incredible as well. really anything in this new wave of gen z mashcore artists, i'd be interested to hear your take on it

I'm so sad I just got into this band now because they played in my city 3 months ago. This is shaping up to be one of my favourite albums of the past couple years. The frontman's lyrics and dry talk-singing delivery are fucking hilarious and never fail to make me laugh even if I'm on public transit and people look at me funny

I can see that. I was thinking more along the lines of "Pavement meets Minutemen, but with a very tidy bedroom" myself, but I get the Cake comparison.
@@narglefargle I feel like the “ahhhhhhhhhhh” bridges between the verses on Featured Singer and the instrumental as a whole has huge Cake vibes. But other tracks sound nothing like Cake. Noodles straight up sounds like a Ween song while Vegan Water sounds like a take on Remain in Light era Talking Heads. Definitely a lot of reference points going into their albums (including the aforementioned Pavement and Minutemen) and yet they sound so distinct and as fantano put it, “fully formed”

This band really blurs the line between comedy music and regular music, and I appreciate that. Their first release was one of my favorites of 2019, and as of now this is my AOTY for 2022.
