    12:47- Summary
There are four types of FUE clinics:
    1. Manual FUE
    2. Rotary/Suction Machine
    3. Robot
    4. Tech Run
By far the best and most accomplished of the FUE clinic types are the Manual FUE clinics. This method is what was used to create and popularize the entire FUE field and to this day is superior to any other method. On the plus side this procedure is the most delicate, deliberate, and gentile method of removing grafts if not using FUT (strip) method. The disadvantage is that it takes a tremendous amount of experience and patience on the part of the doctor and the staff.
All the other FUE methods/technologies discussed below were created in an attempt to mimic the ability of the Manual FUE doctor discussed above but supposedly without the need for such extensive experience and training. In other words, the "new" technologies were designed to act as a substitute for Manual training and experience. We have found this to be completely untrue despite the massive marketing efforts by the manufacturers and users of these devices.
    2. Rotary/Suction Machine- Clinics that use these are by and large either start ups with little to no hair transplant surgical experience, or are adopted by clinics that already perform FUT (strip) surgery but are looking for an easier way into the FUE industry rather than learning and perfecting Manual FUE techniques. In essence, the belief is that purchasing technology that will substitute for training and experience.
These machines employ a hand-held rotating punch that cuts around the graft and then the use of suction to rip the graft free of the skin. The graft then travels through a tube to a catch- jar filled with water. Here, the doctor determines which follicles to target and at what angle and depth to make the cut.
In our opinion we can state declaratively that clinics that use these devices consistently produce results that are far inferior to standard hair transplant techniques or Manual FUE techniques and should be avoided.
    3. Robot Clinics- Are similar to Rotary/Suction clinics except the doctor doesn't actually hold and manipulate the rotating cutter but rather leaves that to a robot arm and software. Similarly, the doctor does not make the final decision as to what angle the cut is to be made at, but rather trusts that to an optical system included in the machine.
We also state declaratively that the worst results we have seen to date have been from clinics that utilize robots when compared to standard hair transplant techniques or Manual FUE methods.
As high tech as robot devices look, they do not perform as well as an experienced and trained manual practitioners. The results we have seen online and in person supports this opinion.
We further believe the use of FUE robots to be an inappropriate delegation of physician responsibility.
    4. Tech Clinics- Are clinics that use non-physicians to plan and perform FUE hair transplant procedures. Sometimes there is a doctor on the premises, sometimes not. These are outright illegal in the United States *. Incredibly, however, it seems such clinics are tolerated in some European countries and commonplace in Third World counties. When patients ask why fees for FUE surgery are so much cheaper abroad this is the likely answer.

Hi, I'm curious what you think of implanter pens (specifically the Han implanter pen) ? Presuming the grafts are taken out without damage, I'm wondering if you think the implanter pen is a better alternative than inserting with forceps ?

What is your opinion on bht ( harvesting beard follicles to transplant on the scalp) would a good surgeon recommend this to a patient who has poor donor hair?
