wow. 3 seconds in and you've made this thing sound better than any other demo.
That's what I was thinking! It didn't do much for me in any other demo, but damn, this made me swell.
i know
Those are the settings out of the box too lol
Moste can not made demos! That sad truth begins by guitar demos who 80% play only high gain mode ...not clean and fuzzy! ...hate that!
Does anyone know the name of that song that he plays at the end?
One of the best pedal demos of all time. This format should be the standard. Nice work Sir!
Whoever made this video has reached exactly the same conclusions as me regarding what settings on a reverb pedal work and for what. This is the pedal I wanted for many years in terms of price. You could get these combinations but always around 100 bucks and up.
Perfect demo. Not a single useless word. It was satisfying. Thank you.
"Just don't expect to sound like Dick Dale"
*plays Misirlou*
And It sounded fuckin authentic.
This pedal is low cost, but simple and nice sound... anyway Good music selection for me. Thanks.
Because of this video, I bought one and I'm lovin it! I'm using it as always on reverb for playing blues. Just set reverb and tone knobs at 12 o'clock. And mix at 9 - 10 o'clock. 👍
As I've come to expect, your demos hit every nerve (in a good way)!
Excellent review and demo. I’m deciding between this skysurfer and the drip.
great demo. efficient and straight to the point. love it!
Nice playing man! This box sounds good in your hands!
Great review,and nice playing ...Thanks
Thanks , really helpfull review. Just returned my Boss RV6 and used this one . Just to add a bit of reverb to my sound . This is all you need.
You make the best Tc demos period.🎸🙏❤️
Love their new lineup
Great demo!
Great reviews on this line. Subscribed!
Smart of them to include a tone knob.
I was sold when Sleepwalk was played at the end. I’ve been looking for a 50s sounding reverb and I think this did it for me.
Thanks, nice explanation of the pedal.
gonna buy it! good demo.
One of the best sounding reverb pedals imo.
Agree
I have this pedal, I find my favourite setting is plate for the brightness, but for more subtle reverbs rolling the tone and mix back on the spring and hall is fantastic. IF YOU'RE AFTER DRIP DO NOT GET THIS, get the TC Electronics The Drip reverb. Best affordable Drip spring reverb there is.
Thats a cool reverb! The 3 IMPORTANT reverb's spring, room and plate!!! ...yeahhh ...sad that the spring is not like the fender tube spring unit :( that were perfect! I use that for play on way and under tree's if the sun shine or gouse down!!!! With my digi tc delay that have analog/tape and more delay's on it!!! ...perfect for dreamy indy sounds!!!
i ve just bought it and love it for 75 cad
Very Nice with the explanetory teXt. Great examples
Sounds amazing
this demo is great!!!
a true musician who really understand this pedal.
I love your demos of TC Electronic "smørgåsbord"-series pedals! Great work! BTW: In which order would you use Skysurfer Reverb, Prophet Digital Delay, and Gauss Tape Echo?
Great review btw!
Just bought one today and TBH for an inexpensive reverb pedal it sounds excellent. I don't play ambient music and this does everything very well. Good review!
Just bought mine and it stopped working after an hour or so, I'm using a 9v battery and I don't understand what is happening
@@lorenzogv8810 hey do you fixed it? What was the problem?
@@Soupia16 yeah it's just that the pedal drains battery very quickly so i got a cable and it's been perfect ever since👍
I like this sound on reverb 75% or more, mix 15-25%. Good demo, fast switch cases, same pattern.
I love that modest mouse sleepwalking cover!!!!!
Sleepwalking is actually a rehash of Santo and Johnny's song, Sleepwalk, from 1959. The original is only an instrumental, though. MM took some liberties and added lyrics. They're such cool songs in their own right, but I think he was playing the original.
Gavin Crockett oh thanks for letting me know ill check that out
Damn I already own one but hearing you play it makes me want to buy another one 😂 great playing!!
That reverb is much deeper than moste on board spring reverb's on most amps!!! ...only some amps have deeper reverbs! Thats why so many buy a reverb pedal or a spring reverb stand alone unit!
great video brother... would you recommend this one over the Caline SnakeBite? I just saw that video (cheap reverbs) and the Caline was the one one worthy of a board in my opinion unless you just like that digi sound of the others. But I'm just wondering if I would miss having some of the other functions such as predelay on the Caline if I went for the TC... but dang, this TC sounds beautiful.
Where would I turn the knobs for a country sound like for Alabama or Conway?
Very cool
I own this pedal for the price its absolutly amazing
I know this is definitely one of Tone City's least favorite reverb pedals butI really like it. I think the name is what throws people off. With surfer in the name you'd expect to get Dick Dale surf spring reverb tones and it doesn't. The Plate and Hall settings with a mostly dry mix provides a really dreamy melodic sound that you can easily use. The spring setting doesn't sound really sound like spring reverb to me. It's my least favorite setting but I really bought this for the plate reverb.
I wanted reverb that was somewhere between a haunting and shimmering reverb. I love the the long decay and trails you get from Shimverb but I can't really use it much without just playing slow spacey stuff. I love this reverb pedal and would recommend it to anyone looking for that almost shoegaze melodic dream pop sound. Or looking to add subtle hall reverb.
50's surf players are better looking elsewhere.
Have you tried the trex creamer pedal? Ive been looking for reviews on it
With some of those licks I thought I was listening to the intro of Better Call Saul.
Sounds great.
I bought one and had to spend some time figuring how to make it sound good in my setup. I had to flip the delay / reverb a few times around but that's okay :) It's very well built and functional.
What order did you prefer?
Weirdly specific question: which setting would be best for the Ren and Stimpy theme?
lol
Spring reverb I reckon, Der Screaming Lëderhosen all used Fender equipment
This could be used to play Walking on Glass by Iron Maiden! The Hall effect works perfectly
Anybody find one of these in the U.S. yet? TC Electronic unveiled this thing and said November in Europe, and late November for a GC exclusive. Stopped in my GC again and no sign of them. Also, my GC's sales people seemed to have no idea what I was talking about, but that's commonly my experience with them.
Kind of a missed opportunity to flood GC with a bunch of $50 in-store exclusive pedals just before Christmas...
Guitar Guitar do them in the UK now, if you're still looking
StormJH1 I found mine online in Musicians friend
I want to use this pedal in a high end pedalboard, which already features high end ambient reverb, so this one I would use just to wet-up my signal a little bit with nice dark, roomy reverb, when playing subtle, simple cleans or distorted riffs (which I usually want to soften up a little bit so they just sit in a mix nicely). Also, I dont want any signal loss and have a buffer there in signal chain. Do you honestly think it might be a good choice for me? Thanks in advance
That's the way I wanna use it too. Did you get it after all?
@@thanosraksen9905 I've tried it for a few days.
Algorithms sounded better than expected but when engaged there was some noise in the signal when engaged that I really did not want with all the other high end pedals. It was there with the clean sound and there might have been even some tone suckage (and I am not too nerdy about that stuff, really). So I ended up returning it. No regrets although I would consider it a good option on a budget board for simple reverb sound.
I’m looking for a spring reverb to actually sound like Dick Dale. What’s out there?
Hey, I heard some TC pedals add the reverb effect without turning the dry signal into digital, which keeps your tone. I don't know much about it, but I wonder if that's the case with this pedal... or if there is any other cheap pedal like Triverb or the mooer ones that have that feature.
Also, do you think that with a additional analog delay slapback, the skysurfer can nail a good surf drip?
Maw_Cohen Damned good question. Wish they'd answer you.
It is true bypass, can't say for sure though when it's active. From experience it does have a very "real" feel
This one is not analogue dry-through. However, the Analogue to Digital conversion doesn't really affect your tone at all... No human being would ever recognize the difference, because of the high resolution. The only issue you might have, if you use a lot of digital pedals in your effect chain, is getting a noticable latency.
@@fabiocuccu3689Did you just assume my species?
I'm impressed with this pedal for such a low price. Great if you're looking for something to the point.
But again, like most pedals, it's unfortunate you can't change any of the settings by foot. Like a toggle feature by foot would've made it instantly more versatile. Nobody wants to have to mess with their pedalboard by hand when they're playing... Designers should learn to either add a second stomp-switch or do a hold-function to toggle settings. They could leave out the toggle switch and since it's digital anyway just make it toggle modes when you hold down the on/off stomp switch. - The Vox Time Machine (made with Satch) has one to toggle between two modes for example (although, that one has the problem that it doesn't remember the last used when turning off, but anyway).
They do, but that requires either digital additions or essentially a whole second pedal, controls and all. Which is why those (like TC electronic’s own are always so much more expensive).
Synth players who keep them beside their keyboards do.
I bought it and it's not working. I tried for couple minutes and then a repeated dud sound came. I turned ot off it works fine in bypass but when its on no guitar sound only dud sound. 😢
I was devastated..CRUSHED... because I needed a fast- replace- on reverb pedal, and I didn't want to spend $150, OR, jerk around with all the settings they have these days...So I bought one of these; it will be on stage in a few hours...I am checking out CZcams for a demo/settings/tweaks on the drive out. All's well right? One of the first Demo's that pop's up has a giant "60 CYCLE HUM" !!!!! NoooOOOooo! After staring out the window for 5min, I started listening....A. Ok, sounds alright, not bad. There is no hum?! B. You're freaking Strat players out with your youTube name: -subscribed- Thanks for the demo...and future anecdote.
LOL, we were a podcast first, and we thought '60 cycle hum' was a fun name for our show.
how do i connect this pedal with another pedal?
how dose it sound with acoustic guitar
That plate reverb with that price and sound + spring (realy deep) + room ! Is my ground to buy it! Its one of the best or the best reverb for the money you can get!!!! ...in europe approx 33€ (36$) thats nothing thats 11€ per reverb :D thats nothing!, nothing!!!
Skysurfer vs mosky spring? For surf
You need to get the TC Drip spring Reverb. It’s supposed to be for surf. There’s no demos currently of it. On Guitar Centers app it says it comes out 06-6-18. I’m extremely interested in it.
Was that first bit of the vid sleep walk?
I feel like they tailored the controls on this one so that the newbs couldn't get too crazy - sounds like you couldn't dial in a crazy decay, which makes it almost idiot proof when it comes to the short-med trails department
embermarrow that's possible. At a certain point I wonder if they were trying to not self compete against the many other full featured tc reverbs. It's just enough reverb to have some fun at $50
Possibly. There aren't a lot of reverbs (even Chinese ones) that can compete at this price ones, but the ones I have tried seem to have different variations on a Hall reverb sound, and this one isn't much different. The "Spring" sounds fine, but not very "springy". Don't hear that "pling!" noise when you hit a hard rake or attack a note.
Nothing seems to be WRONG with it though, and that's quite an accomplishment at $50.
What is the piece of music you play right at the start of the demo please
The song at the end of the demo is the same tune. A 50's love tune; just a guess...."Sea of Tranquility " ? Do a yT search for the period. Hope this helps.
Sounds like it could be 'Sleepwalk'.
Jake Anthony yeah checked it’s definitely sleepwalk I also bought the pedal😂
How are you finding it? Is it a decent pedal? I'm thinking about getting one :P
Jake Anthony yeah it’s really cool pedal it’s a great pedal to play surf rider by the lively ones and it’s decent price as well.
great demo! what was the song at 4:10 ?
did u find out >?
@@123joelad456 nope. Maybe try Shezam app
What's the song at 4:09? Funny theme
It's kinda like the beginning of Pipeline but with that walk down. From Ryan's surf band?
🎶😇👶! My👼!
Oooo I 💜 U! Oooo I do!
No one could love you
Like I do!🎶
3:37 yeah...
I’m looking for David Gilmore kind of reverb. Would this be a good choice?
Not at all. I think you'll find if you seek out a nice rotary/univibe pedal and an solid tape head echo pedal you'll get much closer than with a reverb. Op Amp based fuzz as well.
Which exact ones you go with is largely budget dependent of course.
Edited for usefulness.
Anyone know the lick at 5:50??
Its sleepwalk by Santo n Johnny :)
@@mijocee9084 it's beautiful :')
@@choogiesaur i know!! Such a beaut song
the Sky Surfer are rehoused Behringer circuits.
Updated circuits
Won't do. HOW DO I SOUND LIKE DICK DALE?! (The company's own videos on this pedal keep turning off the reverb and rarely getting past noon on the mix. What's up with that?)
Do the better call Saul thing
Is it good for surf bro?
No
Anything past 9 o'clock on the mix knob and this pedal becomes very mushy and indistinct. I have it. Its okay set low beyond that not good for anything else.
I owned this pedal for a few months. Cheap sounding, not recommended, HOF pedal by the same brand is way better for just a little more money.
Tape echo ..60s back again..
I was disappointed in this pedal. Experienced some tone loss (volume and high end), a bit of hiss introduced, and reverb sounds that were mushy, cloudy, undefined, even at low settings. YMMV!
by the time have you got another reverb pedal? which would you recommend?
@@alxdrksoul - I have several. The TC Electronics Hall of Fame is a great, versatile pedal. If you just need a cheap (super cheap!) spring reverb sound, the Mosky Spring Reverb micro-pedal is a clone of the Malekko Chicklet, and sounds great. The Boss RV-5 and RV-6 are old faithfuls as well.
@@BrannonHancock thanks man, guess what, just today I saw the digitech polara for just $85, WTF !!! I think it's the black friday thing but omg that's luck haha I just bought it. If anything I'll keep your recommendations in mind :)
@@alxdrksoul - sweet. congrats! Never tried it, but I've watched some demos of that pedal and it seems pretty cool! (Seems more versatile than the pedal in this demo - if you listen closely here to the Skysurfer, you can hear the volume / tone loss when the pedal is engaged. No bueno.)
what's up with TC and their spring reverbs.. especially for a pedal with this name... the hall of fame spring reverb setting is pretty bad too, they can't seem to nail the tone that people want.
no idea, I like the HOF for hall/plate/etc type reverbs, but they don't get anywhere close with surfy spring sounds. the Drip was an interesting try, its so wonky though that it becomes a curiosity just for being a different.
Good Demo ! Bad Pedal ! The Mix knob has little control making it sound full on at its lowest setting. You could get by with this pedal using a clean sound only but with an amp that's pushed there is no control on the mix. Most demos of this pedal are without an amp that is overdriven. I bought one on a whim and took it back after using it for a few minutes.
Mike Hawk yeah, I don't recommend this pedal. Tc has so many great reverbs, there is no reason to buy this one.
what if we want reverb that's not $150?
Try the TC Electronics HOF new $99 - used on reverb.com about $60 or less. Even $60. is not cheap for any pedal but it is what it is. Peace !
Jeremy Schep used holy grail
That's what I use too $120ish new - $75 used. EHX makes great pedals.
