    I like the Skysurfer better. It has a better tone to the reverb in my opinion.

    Skysurfer sound so much better. I was really surprised at the end when you said you preferred the HOF. The HOF sounds weak and small compared to the fuller sounding Skysurfer. Thank you for the review. I just ordered a Skysurfer. Note - I never want a pedal that I have to "beam" anything too.

    In my humble opinion, the Skysurfer is not worse, it's just completely different to the HOF. It's a SHORT reverb ideal for certain purposes, not a general reverb to embelish your guitar signal. I use it to play blues, rockabilly, surf, country, 60's music, rock and roll... it creates an amazing vintage sound. Combined with a short delay or delay is kick ass. It's not that its long reverbs are bad, it's just that it does not have long reverb at all, you're stretching something that is not meant for that. For long reverbs I have another pedal (Byang Tri Reverb, also very cheap, recommended). In short, Skysurfer is great to get a specific sound. In this video you can hear how to use it properly to its full potential: czcams.com/video/ldpoK7vruPw/video.html

      @synesthetica Před 5 lety +2

      That's what I've been saying. Maybe the name Skysurfer is misleading as it suggests lush ethereal reverbs. No, this pedal is all about ambience reverbs. Short to medium and I think it's pretty awesome at doing that. It has sort of a vintage vibe and with a really wet setting your instrument sounds as if you're listening to someone playing in a hall, but you're standing in a room next to it. I totally like that.

    • @2candan1
      @2candan1 Před 2 lety

      This was exactly my observation when I used this pedal. It’s really nice for short reverb but there is no decay setting. The mix knob is basically only usable around 9 o’clock and the reverb knob basically needed to always be full. So in the end I found I could only get one sound out of it, although it did sound good. Great pedal for the price if you’re just after short reverb

    • @asukalangleysoryu6695
      @asukalangleysoryu6695 Před rokem

      Gotta disagree with you there, because the Skysurfer SUCKS at short reverbs. Even with the reverb and mix knobs turned almost all the way down it still sounds like you're playing in a sewage tunnel, no matter the reverb mode. The reverb also sounds muffled and muddy, even if you turn the tone knob all the way up. So, the Skysurfer is a pedal that does muddy medium-lenght reverb really well, I guess. If that's what you want knock yourself out...

  • @007dave007

    I like the skysurfer. TC is a good quality brand. I got the ditto looper a couple of years ago, so I know that TC is not going to let me down. Skysurfer is cheaper than HOF, has 3 different reverbs that we can modify, and sounds pretty cool on the video... I'm gonna buy it soon!

      My ditto looper has crapped out on me. It's the 4 button one. Back to the Boss RC3 or whatever it's called. Now boss IS a brand that I feel doesn't have reliability issues.

  • @jimwoodard64
    @jimwoodard64 Před 7 lety +5

    I would probably go opposite when it comes to live. I sing lead and need a big target I can hit that is a tank when I stomp it. The demo proves the new series by TC may not have all of the fancy settings, but they are easy, decent, and you could probably run over then and they would still work. Many gigging guitarists find one reverb setting and use it for all of their needs. So changing settings during a gig would be less likely. At home, that versatility is useful for recording and inspiring sounds.

    The HOF is easily more than twice the Skysurfer pedal. It's about 20 times the Skysurfer pedal with the access to all the HOF TonePrints as well as the ability to make your own.

  • @fiascoseven2796
    @fiascoseven2796 Před 7 lety +2

    I think the Sky surfer will suit acoustic guitars better than the HOF due to the transient nature of the reverberation. Dynamic accentuations must compliment that of the sound source as must timbre. Transparency of tone and the lack of intermodulations are virtues with acoustic guitars.

  • @zachjarrett8730
    @zachjarrett8730 Před rokem

    Based on your recording the HOF had a lot of low frequency resonance that I am going to roll off. You notice it when you switch off the pedal and the low-end resonance disappears. This may contribute to the general sentiment of the comments that the Surfer is sounding 'better".
    The only flaw I can hear from the Surfer is that the Plate almost has a discrete echo that is more like a delay than a smooth reflection in the plate. It would be helpful to let both ring out to silence to hear any deficiency in the bit depth. It was hard to tell if the drop outs at the tails were pedal or user.
    Thanks!

  • @DarthEcoli
    @DarthEcoli Před 5 lety +1

    I just found a Skysurfer on marketplace for 50, but I can't justify paying 50 for a used verb pedal that isn't either Holy Grail or HoF, and more to the point, in pristine condition. However, for 70 brand new, I think I'm gonna hit GC and grab one. They sure as Hell don't sound terrible from hearing them in these demos, and I'm not interested in adding tones with Toneprint , or having excessive settings on the full HoF either. From what I've heard, the Spring, hall, and plate sound decent enough on the Skysurfer in any setting you'd use it in.

  • @creepshow69
    @creepshow69 Před 7 lety +2

    First, great review! To the point, no wanking around on the guitar, just showing the sounds of the two pedals. Perfect! One thing, however, is I wish that reviewers would use a pick while playing the guitar in reviews like these. Many guitar players use a pick when they play (as I do), so the sound will be different from one playing style to the other. Maybe do some finger picking and then some playing with a pick? Still, I really enjoyed this review. I actually own the Skysurfer and I love it. I'm in the process of learning to play guitar after almost 30 years of drumming, so my ears may not be as sharp for knowing what to listen for in a pedal as a guitar player's might be. I also like that I don't have to deal with a computer/phone to get sounds from my pedal. The price can't be beat either! I also have The Prophet delay pedal, which I really like from the same series. If you haven't already, you should do a review of that, too. ;) The whole "Smorgasboard Of Sounds" line seems to be getting good reviews, and the price is amazing. Thanks for the review! :)

    Hi, my 2 cents are if you are looking for a budget reverb and your amp does not offer it, you are fine with the sky. I use mine for blues on spring just for the little extra and it does not fail my 1k rig. If you want to go pro, go pay for more. Great video btw! Teles are the axes of choice for every situation if you are not in the need for the high gain. Greetings from Europe

  • @CrisCDXX
    @CrisCDXX Před 7 lety +1

    First off, well done on your video review. I liked it very much.
    About the pedals; I am very familiar with TC Electronic reverb pedals as I own the HOF Mini and I just recently upgraded from my Normal sized HOF to an Arena Reverb; which is a HOF but with 4 new reverb settings and the black colored design.
    To answer your question, yes, I do believe that the HOF mini is worth the extra 70 bucks Canadian because it does sound better, it is more pedal board friendly due to its smaller size and it really can get a whole lot more that just Hall, Spring and Plate reverb settings as with the Tone-print tech. For example, you could beam a setting like the one called "Room with a view" with is very spacey and can inspire some deep ambient riffing instead of the 3 classic reverb settings that are very common in every modern reverb pedal anyway.
    The HOF is better because of size, sound quality and versatility. The Skysurfer is a "better-ish" copy of the EHX Holy Grail Neo, but I don't think it sounds as good as neither the HOF Mini or the EHX Holy Grail Neo.
    Keep up with your entertaining review videos.

    Jeeze..... the Skysurfer is a great reverb if all you need is "SUBTLE" reverb, its not a Dick Dale saturated surf guitar reverb by all means, but if you just want a reverb that does not drown out your guitar sound, but just want a subtle reverb just riding under your guitar sound and tuned to the ambient room you are playing in, then this Skyreverb is excellent for the money. Enough with the fucking cork sniffing people, back in the day there were no "BOUTIQUE" pedals, amps and guitars and Musicians made good with what they had. Many great Musicians and music were made this way that became classics. What was cheap then becomes boutique today. LOL!! Musicians just played and with their ears, and not with their eyes... Jeeze... Snowflakes indeed.

  • @michaelogden5093
    @michaelogden5093 Před 3 lety

    It's a toss up. When you get to that point, it's basically splitting hairs. Tough to "beam" a sound in the middle of a gig. Then again, do you really need a different reverb sound in the middle of a gig that any normal person is likely to be involved in? They both sound fine. It comes down to "do you like red or silver and the extra money"? I sorta like red but I'd probably opt for saving the dough. Just a note... to connect your I-phone to the HOF it's probably going to run you an extra $30 just to get the get the Apple camera connector cable plus the purchase of another cable if you don't already have it (both cables to edit HOF cost me about $45).

    • @OmarGearReview
      @OmarGearReview  Před 7 lety

      Holywell I actually thought of that while I was editing it and decided I was too lazy to reshoot. But that's a great point and you can really hear it. Im not 100% sure but I'd be surprised if the sky surfer does the same

      rustymcnally that's a good question, in the video they both sound really good. I think, especially with reverb, they can be really inspiring pedals. When you sit next to the amp you can hear it even more clearly, the hof is so much more lush and angelic than the skysurfer. When I'm playing the hof I just want to keep on playing. I don't feel that as strong with the skysurfer, it's a little more thin.

    Same board as the Behringer?! That sucks. I often wonder about the saturated "botique" pedal market and how many of those $200 pedals are just kits. On a positive note, I've had behringer's dr100 reverb pedal for 13 years and somehow it still works. It actually doesn't sound terrible through the effects loop.

    • @OmarGearReview
      @OmarGearReview  Před 5 lety +1

      electropentatonic You should absolutely check out a video from Josh by JHS (his channel is also just great) where he goes through all the Behringer pedals and compares them to their expensive equivalents. Essentially he says they just copied the boards from classic Boss pedals. Also, these pedals are $70 Canadian and they will last you forever, that goes pretty far for a lot of people.

      Kjersti Iverson, how about the original Fender Reverb (Springs, valves). That's what they used in the old days!
