- In the previous episode, Jackee was brought in as Della Reese's half sister in an attempt to fill the void left by the death of Redd Foxx. Now, Jackee has been transformed (Hollywood style) into Reese's eldest daughter.
In this episode, Victoria sees a match between Elizabeth and the new church deacon (Ron Glass). But the deacon makes a play for Ruth (Jackee)-who doesn't like his game plan. Elizabeth: Mariann Aalda. Curtis: Larenz Tate. Hillary: Naya Rivera

It's funny how they had Jackee's character play Della Reese's daughter and Ron Glass' love interest in this series. It was the exact same way on the "227" sitcom.
Right but I think they had Jackee playing Della Reese’s younger sister in her first appearance on this show. I guess they changed her to Della Reese’s daughter so that would be more believable.

@@vegasmitch1472 There are two episodes where Ron Glass plays Jackee's character , Sandra's boyfriend, he played an IRS auditor in one ep and then a real-estate mogul in another. Della Reese appeared on one episode as Jackee's (Sandra's) mother.

This was weird because she came in the show as Victoria’s little sister and after Al died she was recast as their daughter. This is the 1 st episode playing the daughter. I didn’t like that, should’ve made her the person she was suppose to be from the beginning.

When Red passed away, Jackee came to the funeral and was introduced as Della's younger sister. Here she's Della's daughter. Are the viewers not supposed to be confused?

"I got one daughter I can't keep in the house and one daughter I can't get out of the house." I'll add that nothing is wrong with either. Both are entitled to their respective lifestyle preferences. Being different is not a disease. It takes all kinds of ppl to make the world the interesting place it is. As long as they aren't harming themselves or anyone else with their respective lifestyles, then let people happily and freely be who THEY are. Don't try to turn one into the other or require them to follow your favorite blueprint. Also, it makes perfect sense that a mother of three minors would be at home more that a young, single woman with fewer at-home responsibilities.

So the switched it up to be Della’s daughter not her sister like the other episode? I guess that had to change things to make sure adult characters were Royals. They didn’t get a chance to introduce the 2 sons who they originally mentioned when Redd Fox was on the show.

Larenz this looks like an episode of menace to society. He’s at his grandmom and grandpa‘s house you remember when he played on South Central. He was in the movie dead Presidents, love Joe the list goes on and on and on your over Hollywood.

There was a string of really good, short-lived Black sitcoms in the late 80s and 90s, but nearly all of them were cancelled due to low ratings, low budgets, etc. Unfortunately, some content and delivery were too Black and too real for the white audiences that were often necessary for Black shows on white networks to stay afloat on white networks.

Me too. Della Reese was Silent Gen. Unfortunately, that was the mindset of a lot of moms (and people in general) from that generation. They often judged books by their covers and were often as wrong as they day is long. That's why so much molestation went unchecked. That's one reason why I tell people to tread lightly when romanticizing the so-called "good ol' days." In SOME ways, times have changed for the better.

I thought it was gonna be about the sneaky daughter at first because she's usually the one who does he own thing & don't listen and go behind her mom's back and take the decon away from the supposed younger sister that the grandmoter set up her up with but now i see why its about the sneaky deacon. Especially since he seemed to like the older siste more than the younge one I guess tbh or prehpas flirting with two sister at the same time lmaooo. I'm glad the grandmother showed up and showed out at the end lmaooo she showed him lol

They had to switch story lines due to his passing. That’s all so they brought her back as the daughter.

Jackee was hastily added following Redd’s death and the producers probably didn’t have enough Time to flush out the character. I think the producers felt there would be more of a butting heads dynamic between a mother and daughter than between an older and younger sibling. Personally, I think this was the right choice and it gave the show the best chance to find its footing.
Interesting note: Della Reese also played Jackee’s mother on “227”

Lol seem like Ron Glass knows how to play a shady character well. He was the blind con man on Good Times. On Family Matters he was the Winslows favorite TV star until they learned he assaulted Carl. On 227 he tried to tear the building down/raise their rent. Now here he is again 😄🤦🏾♂️ and probably more shows he did in which he's the villian. Matter fact...wasnt he the devil on Twlight Zone?? 🤦🏾♂️
