Alonzo Sparks (James Avery (RIP)) is a lawyer who has a practice in Compton. His two sons Maxie and Greg join the practice. Maxie (Miguel A. Nunez Jr.) is basically an "ambulance chaser" who doesn't do things by the book. Greg (Terrance D. Howard) is the complete opposite but lacks self-confidence. Wilma Cuthbert (Robin Givens) is an attractive lawyer who joins the practice and the boys battle over her. Darice Mayberry (Kym Whitley) is Alonzo's secretary and Lamarr Hicks (Arif S. Kinchen) is the firms errand boy.

Can we have a network that plays all these throwback 80's and 90's Black Sitcoms?? The licensing for these can't be that much. I would watch these all day

I said pretty much the same thing on another TV show board. I would love to own a network and I would play all 70s, 80s, 90s, and early 00s black sitcoms and some drama/action shows like In The Heat of the Night, New York Undercover, and etc.
They do have a network that plays mostly black programming it's called Bounce TV.

Such a great cast! Terrance Howard before he blew up, Kym Whitley is always funny, James Avery (RIP) Miguel Nunez Jr, Robin Givens making a comeback, and they had a SLEW of guest appearances. UPN was lit in the 90's

This show should've had more than two seasons.
I was very disappointed when UPN dropped this along with In The House. Sparks easily could have went to 5 seasons.
The cast was amazing, they needed a better team. Especially in the writer's department! xD
the shit is amazing but it never continued. how it shows how many the hit shows during the the 90s.

I'll say it again...SPARKS is too good a show just to be sitting in a studios vault somewhere. I'd buy every season if they'd release it on DVD. Oh, and add A DIFFERENT WORLD, a truly great and groundbreaking show that was way ahead of it's time, that's NOT out on DVD, too!

At the time that I wrote this, there was only one season of A Different World on DVD. Every season of A Different World should be on DVD just like Friends is.

Wow...Kym Whitley has got it going on! I think she's absolutely gorgeous! I met her in person almost 6 months ago. She's a sweet and funny lady as well. Sure wished SPARKS was on DVD! I'd buy every season!

@Mike Banks do your research...I was in private practice from 1982 through 1993 in my hometown of Compton California !! The show is based on my practice. My family signed the release. The main character is named after my father - "Maxcy". i left the practice of law to come on the bench...I'm now a Judge in the Compton Courthouse !

Loved this show back in the day, it had plenty of potential! A black law firm built with a father and his two sons. Unfortunately this didn't last because of the powers that be, like most of the things in our community 😕.

I remember this show. In fact this is probably the show where I first remember all these great actors in it. It's amazing how far hollywood has come. TV used to be so segregated, but now most of this cast has crossed over into mainstream work and you really don't have these shows like this anymore except the tyler perry and TV One ones.
