Here's a fact for you guys: There are 5 major characters in the series that have a known father but not a known mother. Jak (Father being Damas); Keira (Father being Samos); Ashlein (Father being Baron Praxis); Rayn (Father being Krew in "Jak X"); and Ximon (Father being Osmo in "Daxter").
Another interesting thing I found about Jak 2 that's probably been looked over for ever is that the Krimzon Guard actually have left handed men alongside of right handed men. It really caught my eye because in almost every game in the market their world consists entirely of right handed men/women. I just thought it was pretty cool cause I'm a lefty!
@ #2: This is actually because the two teams that worked on Jak & Daxter and Ratchet & Clank (Naughty Dog & Insomniac Games) not only worked in the same building at the time, but were very close to each other and big fans of each other's work.
***** Go into the pause menu and then I believe you go into options and then go to unlockables and then skins. It will have a list of different shirts, etc that you can put on Joel and Ellie
i guess high impact didnt know anything about the precursors lore when the made dark daxter, precursors + dark eco = dark makers, not the loony tunes Tasmanian devil, now if they had daxter become a playable dark maker instead it would make more sense plot wise and also be 100 times more enjoyable
Phil Mahooters Don't feel alone. :) I'm still a big fangirl for Jak, hell, he was one of my first video game crushes. He was cute in the first game, but then puberty hit him strong. Especially the second game! That long hair, the badass attitude, the voice!
I think if they make a new game they should nullify the story like how DBGT was made null and void. That would redeem everything as long as they don't mess up the new game
I spent so much of my childhood playing this... countless hours and rebeating every game multiple times. If it were ever to come back I would go right back to PlayStation.
Did you know, in the Precursor Legacy, if Naughty Dog hadn't made the due date so early, they would have had time to make a whole other area between the lava tube and the cinidel for the yellow sage.
+Awesome Happy The pursuit of money sucks the joy out of everything, doesn't it? Personally I'm just glad that golden era of early 3D gaming existed at all, and that I've come across games actually concerned about art and offering a fun experience, though I don't think I've ever seen a medium with so much potential squandered as utterly and completely as gaming.
+Happy Cat If you look at where Haven City theoretically fits into the map of Jak 2 - Cynical's video is pretty accurate - it wouldn't be possible since it's almost the entire length of Haven City away from the majority of the first game's content. I also always theorized as a kid that the Yellow Sage was gotten first and his lab was destroyed to make the Citadel.
I was just thinking of having precursor mountain in jak 1 regardless as if jak 2 never happened and at the end of the lava tube if u look above the warp gate u can see the yelloe sage's tiny hut
I never played the last us of series and hearing that’s what took Jaks spot and how it turned out now, I can’t be more upset with how both series have ended
So why is it that when Daxter falls into the pool of Dark Eco in The Precursor Legacy, he becomes an Otsel. But when a bunch of Dark Eco spills over Dax in the Lost Frontier, he becomes some sort of Dark Daxter. Plus, when Jak recieved his dark powers in Jak II, he had been tested on with Dark Eco and been infused with Dark Eco for two whole years. Yet, Dax somehow received his powers in just seconds.
you forgot to mention the easter egg in rachet and clank 2,when they get a new gadget clank starts doing one of daxters dance moves but gets ruined by a disc scratch
Amazing video! Also in jak 2 when the first cutscene plays if you open the disk tray and press triangle at the same time then put the disc back in you'll be in sandover village. You have to "restart the mission" to be able to move around. Only works in the PS2 version.
+HahnSolo While the game was bad, it wasn't Sonic Boom levels of bad and it did expand on the world that the franchise is set in and give some more lore. It opened up the fact that there can be more than one Sage for each type of Eco - Gol and Tym - and that the Eco may not be infinite like the main trilogy seems to make it out to be sometimes.
+ZarosianCabbage some things that pissed me off.... in jak 3 you go to the center of the world. in LF you go to that rock thing, which is also at the center of the world! also I don't understand why jak wouldn't be able to use his powers even if the world didn't have enough eco. and how can the world run out if everything is made out of eco. and what the hell happened to everyone else? also... dark daxter? really? daxter should have looked like a Dark Maker if anything. Jak got dark powers because he survives experiments, not because he accidentally jumped in a pool of dark eco.
That would have gone too far away from the originals. I'm happier this way. Though I really hope Naughty Dog will come back with a Jak and Daxter game.
You know, I wouldn't have mind of Jak being a wolf-like character (since I love wolves and all that). And I'm only a little disappointed that you (nor anyone else) has anything to say about the Metal Heads from Jak 2, and how they went through several concept art themselves or how really cool they are. But nonetheless, great review still.
I have a theory for you about Jak and Daxter. If Jak is the kid in Jak 2, and the kid is a descendant of Mar, then maybe Jak was never meant to return to the future? Maybe he was the original Mar. Sent to the past for his own safety. Built great things with the help of the sages and precursors. Daxter being the first Precursor. Green Sage babbles on about Precursors because in the future, where he is from, Precursors were God like creatures meant to have many secrets and powers, hense Daxter if he didn't go into the future. in Jak 2 they say that Mar mysteriously disappeared. Which Jak went into the future. The only thing they don't describe is how the sages were able to harness the power of eco. Samos didn't have that power in Jak 2 but his older self did. What happened to the other sages? Jak was Mar, he was able to harness the power of all eco from the sages, built Haven City, among hundreds of other things, made Daxter very known, and mysteriously disappeared into the future where he now learns of the things he's done if he didn't go into the future
Tyler Todd I do think Jak and the others were always meant to go to the future, their role in the story is pretty crucial for everything to happen the way it's meant to. But I also believe Jak is Mar and he has yet to come back to the past somehow and build Haven City after one last adventure that would've been Jak 4. In the first game after all, they say Gol and Maia could come back so it would be a great if the characters travelled back to Sandover after all the experiences that so drastically changed them, being now super dark and angsty. It would help tie some lose ends, and make the story come full circle.
after finally playing jak and daxter 1 I am convinced it was supposed to be a crash bandicoot game but then they decided to make something new. Jak 1 is just full of things that remind me of the older crash bandicoot games I played when I was little
+Noreku Well no duh, Naughty Dog made Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy after they made the Crash games that they were licensed to make. It was how games were for them in that day and age. The big thing was making a more open world, wanting to surpass Super Mario 64 by having an unbroken, seamless game world. Jak 1 even had coding written for the game by one of the programmers that was so complicated no major mechanical changes could be made without him. The reason Jak 2 is so different is that Naughty Dog saw a change in the demographic, their audience was getting older and more serious and they changed the franchise to fit with the times. They also found that a silent protagonist didn't work as well, hence Jak getting a voice.
Calum Swagfag You know, some people believe that Jak really isn't the Mar and is just some descendant who just so happened to be Mar. Here's a link to a discussion about it: jakanddaxter.wikia.com/wiki/Forum:Jak/Mar_discussion
+Aura Guardian Technically he's just an ottsel. He's an individual blessed with the image of the Precursors but has none of the powers. Saying Daxter is a Precursor at all is saying that wearing white robes and cutting your hair like Christ makes you...well...Christ.
ZarosianCabbage Your comment was unnecessary and flawed. *"Technically"* a creature such as Daxter can be more than one thing, so a Dark Precursor, Dark Maker, Ottsel, and Precursor are all valid here. And seeing as how I initially said Dark Precursor, if what you said for this example was true, I would still be right since Daxter HAS dark *powers*. But just to clarify, you don't need powers to be considered a Precursor. Daxter is just a powerless Precursor/Precursor with no standard Precursor powers. Additionally, Daxter would actually have the (lighter) powers of a Precursor.. the gene in him (since he is now a Precursor), it's just not unlocked. It's like with Ultimate Gohan or any generic super hero who has the potential to have powers but needs a secondary source to help him unlock it. Shit, I can even use Jak and his Light form as a nearly perfect example-- Jak has always had the light within but he could never unlock or use it, so the Precursors unlocked it for him. Did that make pre-Light Jak one who had no light within (as is constantly said by the oracles to him in the first game)? So Daxter is a Precursor with the pre-set potential to have powers... it just needs to be unlocked. Not having powers =/= locked/hidden powers. This is hopefully something the next main game will fix... it has to have the sufficient development in this area because of the direction Jak 3 chose to go in. TLF even clearly did this but they skipped the traditional (for Jak's world) path and went straight to the other one-- (worded that a bit weird so) development in the dark eco/dark precursor area instead of the standard precursor area. This step shouldn't have even become before the standard powers, so they literally skipped from 1 to 3 in that game... they pulled that SS2 Vegeta to SS4 Vegeta
Good job on #10. So many people don't know it, or refuse to accept it. By the way, the story for TLF was also written by Naughty Dog's writers, before the game was handled to HIG.
+NotOrdinaryInGames Naughty Dog, as mentioned in this video, tend to work on one game at a time due to size of the studio. They handed over development of The Lost Frontier to High Impact Games because they didn't have the manpower to make it and Uncharted.
In my opinion its sad that jak 4 was cancelled most of jak players matured and some of them are aduults now (like me) so I would love to see a more mature jak game
I am beyond thankful that Naughty Dog chose to scrap Jak 4, as from what they’ve showed us they would have likely ruined the series. Much too realistic and pays no tribute to the original series.
+RW Library The HD Collection wasn't a Naughty Dog project. They turned it over to Mass Media, who essentially had to take the whole series apart and put it back together. I assume that Mass Media either didn't catch that Easter egg, or they didn't deem it relevant... Or maybe they felt it more pure left in the original game.
That picture of Ratchet and Clank dough :0. Jak and Daxter, Sly Racoon and Ratchet and Clank ever shared kinda connection somehow lol :b. Did anyone notice that ?
+Ella K Naughty Dog and Insomniac Games also shared an office space in their early days apparently, so the staff seemed to be within shouting distance of one another on a regular basis, hence a destiny of mutual cameos and crossovers.
Hey everyone who's realy into the jak and daxter serie. If you like to read my fanfiction on the official Playstation site in the forums the post is called 'Jak and Daxter Chronicles of Mar'. I spend a good amount of time to come up with a story for the game serie. But for now see it as a fanfiction I would l0ve to hear replies!
I honestly believe that The Lost Frontier comes down as the worst instance where the original developer puts their trust in another game company to continue the series ever. I mean seriously if anyone can come up with a better fuck up than TLF I'll be surprised. High Impact Games was freaking full of employees who worked on both Jak and Daxter games and Ratchet and Clank Games. What a disgrace.
+BenHopkins1000 Insomniac and Naughty Dog weren't rivals. They actually had offices in the same building so the staff got along and gave each other cameos. Jak & Daxter and Crash & Spyro.
+DEFCON1GAMRS There's a Jak skin in Ratchet Deadlocked and Ratchet in his Deadlocked appearance is a secret character in Jak X: Combat Racing if you have Deadlocked save data.
The first 7 PS2 games I ever bought: Kingdom Hearts, Sly Cooper, DBZ: Budokai, 007 Night Fire, Spongebob: Flying Dutchman, Jack and Daxter, Gran Turismo 3 in that order when I was 8 years old =D
Jak 4 is kinda like the new System of a Down album. We'll never get it. Sure we can have something simmilar (The Lost Frontier / Scars on Broadway) but it ain't no Jak 4 / System of a Down.
+Smasherfan88 The team at Naughty Dog were outright trying to beat Mario 64. The paintings in the castle broke the flow of the world. In Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy there is no mission select, no load screen, nothing but world. You can walk from the final area all the way back to the opening area once you're at the endgame. If all of the stages in Mario 64 were one continuous worldspace, that'd be different. Think of it like if every building in Skyrim was just..open. No loading into houses, just open. That's basically what the first Jak and Daxter is. What the entire main trilogy is really. The only real loading in them is minor and happens to stuff that is beyond view of the camera. (IE the enemies on the other end of the city are not loaded, they load actively as you near the part of the map they should be in, I believe). Also, every cutscene in the original trilogy is loaded in-engine. No cutscene in the games is prerendered. For example, in Jak 2 if a cutscene is on the streets of the city, its different almost every time due to the random NPCs in the background.
The gaming Mercenary It's really hard to know that Jak went through TWO FREAKING YEARS of horrendous and unrelenting torture and see him go from such an innocent, pure-hearted teen to a cold, angered, mostly self-serving young adult. It shows just what cruel things can do to people.
+Daz E While the comments on this post are accepted answers, the actual reasons are a game design choice. With the first game, Naughty Dog thought a silent protagonist would be easier for the player to insert themselves into ala their previous franchise, Crash Bandicoot. With the development of Jak 2, Naughty Dog saw that their demographic was getting older and into more serious and darker subject matter. They changed the series with the times and adapted to their target audience's change of interest. They also saw that with this change the silent protagonist thing wasn't working or at least would not continue to work, so they gave him a voice.
thanks for this....but its kind of disappointing to me. I love jak and daxter, but if youre doing top ten lists about it I get the feeling youre running out of kingdom hearts stuff. Its probably not the case whatsoever, but thats what it seems like to me....that or you just wanted to do a jak video not on your other chanel
Don't worry I still have tons of Kingdom Hearts content to share! :) However I do have a passion for other video games so every so often I'll release something that isn't Kingdom Hearts Related. Don't worry bruh, I gotchu!
TheGamersJoint Yeah....thats what i thought. One of your biggest fans....watch you every day ever since you first started.....btw..."more news in 2015" killed me inside. They cant be more generic. Not another trailer, not big news, not release date reveal....."more news". THEN they waited 2 months without giving us anything. If they dont give me anything soon Im buying a bazooka.
God I fucking hate High Impact Games. They ruined everything they touched. I know they were formed from former Insomniac employees, but they did such an awful job with all the projects they were given.
+pejnismiggle They did pretty good with Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters. The same can't be said for Secret Agent Clank and Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier.
Size Matters is sub-par at best,. It had good ideas and gadgets, but things were pretty clunky feeling and You literally canNOT finish new game plus. I used up ALL my ammo on EVERY weapon on the last boss and he still wasn't dead. I continued with my wrench precisely hitting him, dodging and weaving, but he hits like a fucking truck on new game plus. It's fucking stupid.
I didn't take the time to play New Game+ on Size Matters so I wouldn't know that it'd be very difficult to beat the final boss. When it comes to "clunkiness," that may be due to the PSP hardware, because I had the same issue with Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep after playing the console games. Still, Size Matters tops Secret Agent Clank and Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier in terms of replay value so I found myself enjoying the game overall, not that they're any better than the older console releases.
I never realized as a child that you can literally go none stop, with no loading screens, from green sages hut, all the way to gul and mayas citadel.
+William Mays
You can finish the game in 2-3 hours.
+Guadalupe not when you're a fucking 6 year old
Happy Jordan maybe not, I was like 8 years old when I played this for the first time
Happy Jordan your not even jack
I guess nobody told High Impact that daxter was ALREADY affected by dark eco?
+TheKnightOfTerror They somewhat know that. They just didn't pay attention to how Dark Makers are created.
I I love jak and daxter it was my first ps2 game
Mine too!
Same. I got a few others ones. But I remember waking up the next day and rolling around on sand over beach
Here's a fact for you guys:
There are 5 major characters in the series that have a known father but not a known mother.
Jak (Father being Damas); Keira (Father being Samos); Ashlein (Father being Baron Praxis); Rayn (Father being Krew in "Jak X"); and Ximon (Father being Osmo in "Daxter").
+ZarosianCabbage I love the names tho :D
ZarosianCabbage did u know in the second version they time traveled and it showed jack when he was younger
Another interesting thing I found about Jak 2 that's probably been looked over for ever is that the Krimzon Guard actually have left handed men alongside of right handed men. Isnt dark eco upredictable. It works differently for everyone.
this is the saddest thing I've possibly ever said, but was i the only girl who thought jak was hot?
NOOOOO!!!!
Phil Mahooters

that game never happened ok?
That game is worse then Krews white tighties on a hot summer day.

man jak 4 would of been hideous, hope when they do make a new one it will look like the original.
You should use that end trailer song more often.

What are the Uncharted references to Jak and Daxter?
notforvideos Well, he already pointed out the Precursor Orb. I just remember seeing Daxter's face on Nate's wetsuit in the first Uncharted.
+notforvideos Elena's wetsuit was branded "Ottsel" in the first Uncharted game.
Don't forget that in Uncharted 3 multiplayer, you can buy Jak goggles for your custom character.
Spyder from Uncharted 3 has a lot of references to Jak in his costume
Guys wouldn't it be funny if kingdom hearts was a dream that sora dreamed up
First of all, if he's dreaming this shit up, How fucking long is this kid sleeping!?!
What if he's still asleep after chain of memories???
no.not at all.
if that were the case i would have no choice but to follow it @MasterAquaKeymaster foot steps and buy a bazooka....

God I love jak music. It's so good. And honestly rather have jak 4 than uncharted.
Yo Gamerjoint what do did you think about the light and dark in Jak3 and I think Jak2 was the best one of all 4 what was your favourite and why?
In my opinion its sad that jak 4 was cancelled most of jak players matured and some of them are aduults now (like me)
so I would love to see a more mature jak game
How cool would it be if they made a game where Jak, Daxter,Ratchet, and Clank form a collaboration. They need to team up!
They did its called Playstation Move Heros
+DMCGamer 3142 And its not that good.
I am beyond thankful that Naughty Dog chose to scrap Jak 4, as from what they’ve showed us they would have likely ruined the series. Much too realistic and pays no tribute to the original series.
I'v found a way too go in the prison cell with the jetboard glitch but after I get in I can't go out lol😀
Need the first 3 remastered asap then jak 4 one day
I wonder what the face of the first person to find the Naughty Dog picture was like, or at least someone who didn't expect it.
Hey! Rumors going around that Naughty Dog is secretly making a Jak and Daxter movie! It is guessed to come out in 2019!!!! AAAHHHHH!!!!!!
why did naughty dog remove the Jak 3 Easter egg in HD Collection?
+RW Library The HD Collection wasn't a Naughty Dog project. They turned it over to Mass Media, who essentially had to take the whole series apart and put it back together. I assume that Mass Media either didn't catch that Easter egg, or they didn't deem it relevant... Or maybe they felt it more pure left in the original game.
surprisingly, jak is not the first 3D platformer with no load times and a fully loadable world.. legacy of kain: soul reaver for PS1 and Dreamcast is
That picture of Ratchet and Clank dough :0.
Fun fact it says naughty dog on the precursor orbs
Jack is a night elf enuff said
Dark Daxter *shudders* Never again... never... again
is that a reference to God Of War Ascension ? XD cause itkinda seems like one (im sorry if not just wanted to bring that up XD)
Pavel Novák nope, just really hate dark daxter
JAYDOG1337A i guess that Jak : The Lost Frontier can be counted like never existing
How dare you even mention that monstrosity! as a Jak fan you should know we like to try our best to forget the lost frontier
There are only three Dark Daxter sections in the game... xD If that was important they would make more. But story still was good to me...
+destinyawaitsx3 343 Industries isnt doing Halo much justice, but true TLF is probably the king of all game fuck ups
Try 343 and Halo.
+destinyawaitsx3 Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric. Enough said.
This game is legendary
Nice one Gamer!
0:55 I swear, these guys have to be the biggest rivals in gaming since Mario & Sonic...
+BenHopkins1000 Insomniac and Naughty Dog weren't rivals. They actually had offices in the same building so the staff got along and gave each other cameos. Jak & Daxter and Crash & Spyro.
+ZarosianCabbage Yeah, in fact, it has been said that Insomniac Games used some things from Jak and Daxter, and put them in R&C.
We don’t talk about The Lost Frontier.
Dont forget Ratchet and Clank also had J&D references.
If you watched the video, they do
I did watch the video, I didnt see them all.
k
+DEFCON1GAMRS There's a Jak skin in Ratchet Deadlocked and Ratchet in his Deadlocked appearance is a secret character in Jak X: Combat Racing if you have Deadlocked save data.
Since kh3 has finally arived cover more jak lore and stuff! c:
U just earned a sub
Jak and Daxter is the Legend of zelda of Playstation
so no Jak And Dacster 4?
Jak and Daxter the lost front fire
The first 7 PS2 games I ever bought: Kingdom Hearts, Sly Cooper, DBZ: Budokai, 007 Night Fire, Spongebob: Flying Dutchman, Jack and Daxter, Gran Turismo 3 in that order when I was 8 years old =D
Jak 4 is kinda like the new System of a Down album. We'll never get it. Sure we can have something simmilar (The Lost Frontier / Scars on Broadway) but it ain't no Jak 4 / System of a Down.
I'm glad to see that you don't like "Jak 4" (the lost frontier) either
I know, that's why it's in quotation marks
SmashAttack64 your not jak
please do more facts
Gee, they sure know how to deal with problems,
don't they, SEGA?
Mine was jak and daxter $ ratchet and clank
Really good job do more if you can on other games
Jak and Daxter was released in 2001 and was certainly not ‘made in 2002’.
Naughty Dog dropped the ball not continuing Jak and Daxter
um wouldnt that actually be the n64?... unless when you pick a level that is considered one
U forgot Jax X ! ;)
I'm writing a fan fiction called "Different Worlds' with Jak & Daxter on wattpad 😆 RissyGirl144
Question: In jak and daxter the precusor (dont know if i said that right) legacy why doesn't jak talk?
Jak is originally a mute. He only started talking after being put though turture for two years straight.
The gaming Mercenary ah ok i get it now thanks!
The gaming Mercenary It's really hard to know that Jak went through TWO FREAKING YEARS of horrendous and unrelenting torture and see him go from such an innocent, pure-hearted teen to a cold, angered, mostly self-serving young adult. It shows just what cruel things can do to people.
Bailey Neasby I wouldn't say he's mostly self-serving he still obviously cares about Dax and his friends.
Here's one : It's a game. Interesting fact, right?
Fact 1: Frontier sucks
Fact 2: Frontier Sucks
Fact 3: Frontier Sucks
Fact 4: Frontier Sucks
Fact 5: did I mention Frontier Sucks?
thanks for this....but its kind of disappointing to me.
TheGamersJoint
Yeah....thats what i thought.
Haos CallOfLRevengeance
thank you
+VEN Productions he can still make reviews on other games
I like the Lost frontier, why?
Because it was first Jak & Daxter game I played
I love Jak and Easter but before I played the series and saw a pic for JAK 2 I thought jak looked like a douchebag and would sound like luxord lol
So jack was almost a furry.. thank god they didnt go through on that idea
check out officialjakanddaxter on instagram its freaking dope
that 1st one was creepy lol
Holy shit cynical talks about something other then kingdom hearts?
+I'm Nori Yeah I agree. I played the PS2 ports of Size Matters and Secret Agent Clank. They feel the exact same, they're not bad ports or anything.
I thought The Lost Frontier was okay. Not great, not awful, just...meh.
