- Cord to Cordless Chainsaw Conversion Video
I found this chainsaw from a Japanese recycling shop. It does not work anymore because the armature is broken. I decided to convert it to an 18V cordless chainsaw by rewinding the armature and replacing the field with a permanent magnet. Let's see it in detail in this video.
More information could find in the community / @gear_show .
After the test, I felt it needed more speed, while the torque and power were good enough to cut the tree. It would be better with a 24V battery.
To be honest, this chainsaw is much better than the 18V Black & Decker that I just restored • NiMH to Li-ion Chainsa...
It is easier than my previous 36V chainsaw conversion • Electric Chainsaw Conv...
I hope you find this video useful and enjoy it!
Furthermore, I am happy to receive feedback, suggestions to improve myself.
!!! I'm sorry for the mistake if I did in this video !!!
Thank you very much for choosing to watch my video!
Have a nice day

My favorite tool you have is either your Makita impact driver, or (if you can believe it) your turntable lid wash basin. I don't know why, but I smile every time I see the turntable lid come out. :) 😃
Agreed, I need that screwdriver now!
I'm glad you like it, thank you! 😃

I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle czcams.com/users/postUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. It managed to cut some hardwood stumps much larger than it's size without bothering the neighbors with hours of 2 stroke noise.
Awesome job! I love the "weathered" look of old tools that are just cleaned up. I don't particularly like paint added. I appreciate the informative nature of this video as well as how handy it seems! Thanks for the time and effort taken to make this video!
You're welcome! I'm so glad that you love this video. Thank you!
I am never disappointed by the Gear Show channel. For me it's always an automatic thumb up. I always enjoy the innovative ways you do hardware hacking and your armature rewind videos. Thanks.
Wow, another tool saved from waste dump, good job! Also, back to old-school motor rewinding. Good job, as always!
Yes! Thank you again!
This is the type of content that I'm coming here for.Your knowledge is something to die for. Absolutely impressed.
Okay, I'll try to create content like this, thank you!

Brilliant job a pleasure to watch and I've got a Makita Screwdriver after watching you use yours, it's my go too tool and it gets lots of use.
You should ask Makita for commission.
That is a great idea, thank you!

I'm glad to hear that, thank you so much!
@@gear_show I am watching your videos intensely, are you making restoration videos for this job or for hobby purposes, I am informed thanks to you, I am really grateful to you.
Good job
Thanks
That chainsaw had a fight with an Ent named Treebeard!
Haha, yes you're right...
I hope you make more videos like this
Okay, thank you!
Dobra robota, brawo 😎
Thank you!
I love the tiny impact driver
I love it too, it is really easy.
@@gear_show can you give me a model number?
fantastic Idea Thank You.
You are most welcome
Helal olsun bakır sarmak yetenek işi. Adam emek veriyor beğenmemek ayıp olur
Teşekkür ederim! Videomu beğenmene sevindim.
Absolute masterpiece! I hope to see one collab between you and my mecanics channel!
Please shorten bar and chain. That gives you more chain speed and power. This chain too long for 18v motor. I use Einhell 40v battery powered brushless chainsaw. It can only hand such a long chain. Appreciate your works. I think you deserve more followers. Greetings from Turkey.
Nice one
Thanks 🔥
great restoration , Absolutely flawless ! but the armature is little bit weak but its ok and working almost fine 🧡🧡 love you and keep up the good work
Yes, thank you for sharing!
I guess I know what your washing bath is. It should be an LP top cover)
Great restorations!
Yes! Thank you!
That is impressive. What about the new motor balancing?
You are awesome bro!, are tu an eléctrical, mechanical, electronic engineer? You'd show your tools, are fascinating. Congratulations!!!
I'm IT engineer :), but I love electronic and mechanical.
@@gear_show Great, and, what's going on with the tools you restore or updated. In wich country are you living. Confratulations and regards.
Chique show 👍👍🎸!!!!
fabulous I think a shorter bar /thinner chin will help with the lack of power :) it would be an awesome trimmer or to cut up old pallets ;)
Haha, thank you for sharing :D
Nice one:-
Thanks
Trabalhoso porém gratificante! Gratidão Gear Show
Thank you!
Awesome..👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks
Nice
Thanks
That is some pretty usable power there ! How's the heat in the motor ? Manageable ?
Great work, can you upgrade a MAGLITE torch to led, rechargeable and make it powerbank out of it?
Okay, great idea, thank you!
your builde is better than some power tools companies
Wow, really! I'm so glad to hear that, thank you!
Nice Job, with additional heat shrink tube install to protect the external wiring would be perfect :-)
Good idea! Thanks for the tips!
What about if the field is electro magnet series with armature coil instead of permanent magnet?
26:58 - Mr. Gear Show has a voice! (He sounds like an Animal Crossing character though...hehehe)

Like and good job✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️
Thank you!
I'd love to see you expand your repertoire to ripping the gas engines out of things and powering them with custom made DC motors and batteries.
Cool idea, thank you so much!
Dear Gear Show. Can you make a particular rewinding video? With theory, aspects etc. Many viewers would like to see that.
احسنت مبدع
very clever great job i don't think the ants liked you cutting on that tree stump
Thank you! They want to be in this video.
There is actually no need to replace the stator with a permanent magnet. you can rewind the stator to work at a lower voltage.
Wow... that winding session could've been sped up :O That's 6 mins of my life I will not get back..
The restoration was great, but when you're restoring/converting a chainsaw, please replace the chain.
Okay, Nice tip, thank you so much!
Mantap 👍👍👍
Bence tam boy bir kütüğü kesecek kadar pillerinin dayanacağını sanmıyorum ama güzel ve akıllıca bir tercih 👍
Those ants were pissed at the end.
Great job. You should have soldered the copper wires, imho.
I'm high current situations, many times solder isn't used - for concern of it failing at high amp/high temp. Crimping/staking is the common go to. However, I would certainly agree that adding solder after the fact. Unless you mean on the commutater - then you don't solder then so you don't melt the shellac coating (the reason he scrapes out with his knife when wrapping around each finger).
Hello, Mr.gear. I'd like to request you. Could you restore old Korean tools, such as Aimsak, Keyang?
And, I really enjoyed your video!
Hello 명슥이, I will do it after I could find them. Thank you!
Oi! Muito obrigado pela entrada.
👍👍👍👍👍
👌👍
👌👌
Why don't you solder copper wire with the commutator?
Love the idea and build but man you need a better chain I know you sharpened it but it needs it
Okay, you're right, thanks for the tips.
when will you start using brushless motors
I will try it one day.
Wish I could do what you do
I wish you can do it.
Hey i want to convert a cord impact wrench to cordless
Okay, go ahead!

Интересно.
Yes, it is..
Very nice but i think it can have more power it cannot be compared to engine kind
Yes, you're right...
Are these stored in the pig sty before you find them? Who lets tools get like this?
I don't know too...
Красавчик!
Thanks!
Да, вот это мощно 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Air blower 12v restoration
Okay, after I could find that tool...
Upgrade w/ two batteries in series... It will interest..☕
I am thinking about this too, thank you!
¡Denada gracias!
Hey where’s the 11ah battery?!
It was charging that time, it was reserved battery.
