This is a video showing the features and installation of the Liftmaster MyQ Control Panel 888LM. It is a great system that I installed in my new house to control the garage door in many different ways including through the internet using an app that is available on both the iPhone and Android devices.
To learn about the internet gateway you will need to install to use the app, please view the internet gateway install video here: • Liftmaster MyQ lnterne...

I have 3 of the 888LM wall controls and today, one of them started flashing red light and beeping. After a little online research I learned that this happens when the capacitors in the wall unit fail. I called LiftMaster customer support (3pm on a Saturday no less!) and they are sending me 3 new wall units (889LM I believe) at no charge. I am not the original owner of the house and therefore not the original purchaser, but they never asked that and simply want to replace all of the 888LMs out there because I guess they can randomly open the garage door. I think the new units (889LM) fixed the issue. Anyway, that is great customer service and support. Hope this helps someone and if you own the older ones, it can't hurt to call to get the upgrade just in case.

I get it. I have 3 and only 1 failed, but when I mentioned it to the service rep they are sending me 3. I guess there is a recall on them.@@EricDIY

Checked it out and I will be contacting them to replace them as a precaution. Good until the end of 2023 as they said online

How do you change the battery on wall unit

    • @EricDIY
      @EricDIY  Před 6 lety

There is no battery on the wall unit. It is powered by the wires you attach

@@EricDIYok wtf does it have to charge?

    • @EricDIY

It uses the power from the wires that connect it to the garage...no batteries

You would have been fine just unplugging the garage door openers rather than turning off the circuit breaker. Accomplishes the same thing without messing up anything else that's plugged into the same circuit.

Tom Fota Yeah...um..my garage is on it's own circuit...doesn't really matter

Do you think this will work with an older Sears garage door opener? My door opens using a simple door bell type button
that momentarily closes the circuit. It uses the older dip switch type transmitters. I am having a problem finding something
that looks like what your using and does the same thing as the door bell switch and let me use my existing remote dip switch transmiter. Thanks

You would have to check the manual. It says specifically what model of door openers are supported. See here: www.liftmaster.com/for-homes/myq-connected-home
They have multiple solutions for the MyQ system.

And it opens the garage door when you don't want it open. Just randomly opens. They fixed this issue with the next model: 889LM.

@@EricDIY well you're one of the lucky ones. Google it, it's a common problem with these. So common that the Liftmaster company is giving away the newer model 889LM to replace the defective 888LM models. Here is a link. Scroll down to "Warranty".

888LM is the worst wall garage door controller - is great while it works adding MyQ WIFI capability but now that the second unit (first was on a whisper belt drive and second on an 8500 jackshaft) in both cases when it went out it had the horribly DANGEROUS habit of opening the garage door, yes often while we were sleeping or out! have to say I am totally disappointed that I just bought new chamberlains for the new house because right after we did this the two unit in the old house failed!!! By the way the new chamberlain are super slow, and I bought their 1 and a 1/4 HP model :(

Mine opened around 4 am when this wall controller failed. I was surprised to see that my garage was completely opened. This is how I ended up watching this video. If you all look up this problem, its a well known dangerous issue with this control model. I don't know if they will ever come out with a fixed revision to this problem. Just think of this scenario, you and your family while out on a vacation out of the country then all of the sudden this wall control fails. By default, this controller opens the garage when it fails. If you say you haven't experienced this problem, just give it some time. It will eventually fail on you.

@@wilgonz75 They did supposedly fix the issue if you go to the website you can get a free new wall unit. Mine lasted 4 years then failed. When I go on vacation I unplug it and will continue.
