One of the kids is in my daughter's classes, we are absolutely heartbroken for what is left of this family. These poor children. We have them all in our prayers.

In a subdivision I used to live in, basketball goals could not be attached to your house (tile roofs were subject to damage) and mobile goals were not allowed. Goals had to be permantly installed on a pole located such that you shot the ball toward your own front yard, not toward the neighbors yard. That way, when you missed, you weren't constantly running into the neighnor's yard to retrieve the ball.

Installing something so close to the property line that it causes the user to infringe on a neighbor's property is both inconsiderate and disrespectful.
Well, this wasn't really over a basketball hoop. Clearly a long-standing feud. But there was a time when kids playing in front yards and streets was a good thing. The entire street of parents jointly had eyes on all the kids, nobody got angry when a ball rolled onto THEIR grass, and the thought of harming a neighbor for any reason other than real threats, was not even considered. It has only been in the last few decades that people living on the same street, even in upper-class neighborhoods, are complete strangers to each other and have been fiercely protecting every single blade of grass and know where their property line is, down to the inch. Such pettiness and entitlement has proven to be more detrimental to society than we'd like to admit.
I’m guessing the repetitive “whoomp, whoomp, whooomp,” of ball slamming is piercing noise for some people, especially those who have home offices ~ a lifestyle change that is very much endorsed by corporations looking to shift away overhead expenses and government wanting to reduce freeway traffic from commuters. And closer to home - my sister’s grandson, 21 years old, killed because he was leaning on some guy’s car. It’s not about race. It’s about all the angry people in this country who have been given the green light to act out their rage. It’s about all the weapons that supposedly the 2nd Amendment gives us the right to have. No one gets that the 2nd Amendment was originally added because we were facing a foreign adversary. Now our neighbors have become the enemy. And over stupid things like basketball hoops and common mistakes anyone could make.
Wow...guess you missed the recent news about the shootings that happened when a nice neighbor was caring enough to request a welfare check on an elderly man. He came out with a shotgun. Then there is the man charged with murder because he shot a young woman who pulled up in the wrong driveway. Then there was the Uber driver incident involving a scam that neither the driver or the man with the gun fully understood. He decided to use his privilege in that situation and torment the driver and shot her more than once...killing her. And many more including the man who shot a boy at his door when the boy went to the wrong house by accident. I guess the small boy was terrifying. Oh they were all not diverse...you know ...the people you would expect to see in a nice neighborhood. Just so you know people of all shades and backgrounds are losing their minds and shooting others right now.
