It did that for a couple of weeks and then it stopped. Maybe it was doing that because all my feeders are close to where they nest. That mockingbird has been hanging around my house for several years. It pairs up with a female every spring and they build a nest in the big snowball bush outside my kitchen window.

I like Northern Flickers. Starlings do not like them. Neither to crows. Do not mess with a Woodpecker!

The variegated woodpeckers in our yard stick to feeding from a cylinder or the suet blocks. Mourning doves feed on seed that’s fallen to the ground. Perhaps try multiple styles of feeders ? Territorial birds are less obnoxious if there’s multiple options to feed available. Some birds however tend to just be,as you’ve stated-assholes 😁

    F. Red Bellied Woodpecker, unless I'm mistaken. I find the Mourning Doves [also White Winged and Collared] to be more aggressive~ that characteristic lifting of one wing to other birds is a warning specially to the smaller birds. They're also slobs at the feeder [throwing all the seed they don't like to the ground]. Only thing I can't tolerate is pecking holes on the side of the house.
Good for you feeding the birdlife.

Oooh I hate when there's a backyard bully. For us it was a mockingbird. He beat up everyone and refused them access to food. He would not leave. I could not take that or its devilish cries. Food source was removed. I felt terrible.

It knows who it's dealing with. Those doves bully other birds. You can even see the dove raise it's one wing while keep the other close to the body. It was setting up a slap if it could've gotten one in. These woodpeckers are territorial, too. You also can't blame them, i mean with them being red-heads and all... 😶‍🌫️

Where I live the woodpeckers get bullied. I have to throw peanuts away from the food pile to get the rest of the bastards to leave the woodpecker alone long enough to eat.
