Imadrummin strikes gold again! Hauntingly beautiful backup vocals by the Beach Boys and Chicago -- Cetera and Lamm in particular. The irony of the late Terry Kath on lead vocals and singing "Wishing You Were Here" is so deep and profound. We wish you were still here, Terry Kath. Excellent selection and reaction. Thank you, Imadrummin and Harri!
Hard to find anything better than 1970's Chicago. There is a reason why this music is called "Classic Rock" 200 years from now, people will consider this classic music!
From their 1974 album, Chicago Vll, a beautiful ballad written primarily by Peter Cetera, with simple but powerful lyrics. The slow but bluesy melody perfectly compliments the lyrics, highlighted by Terry Kath's vocals, backing vocals by The Beach Boys and produced by James William Guerico, the bands manager who played bass on some of their songs. The horns and electric guitars give texture and depth, with the rhythm section keeping the beat steady and addictive. Just another classic and phenomenal tune by early Chicago. Just an incredible memory. ❤ Lovely reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Imadrummin. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada. 🇨🇦
I saw that show too. Then Dennis Wilson made off with Bobby's wife and ruined the collaboration. I saw them together again in 86 it wasn't the same without Dennis Peter and Terry. They did a hell of jam with the 2 bands together. less horns cause the BB were arranging on this. Peter wrote it.
Wow, I never knew Dennis made off with Bobby's wife. The show I saw was at the old Schaefer Stadium in Foxboro, MA which was home to the New England Patriots around 1975. One of the most bizarre highlights of the show was when some fan threw an orange on stage and hit Al Jardine square in the forehead. He shook it off and continued on like a pro.@@robinfra52
The late Terry Kath sings lead vocals on this, with Peter Cetera doing the second part towards the end of the song. There's also a live version from a New Year's Rockin' Eve show back in the day. Chicago and The Beach Boys toured together in 1975. That's when they wrote this, and also "Call on Me".
Guitarist Terry Kath is the main vocalist on this one, shared with Peter Cetera. Chicago was blessed with a wealth of vocal talent. Keyboardist Robert Lamm was a great singer as well. When they put the Beach Boys on top it's a veritable eargasm. There is another track on this same album that Robert Lamm sings lead on called Skinny Boy. It features The Pointer Sisters on backing vocals. Almost too much vocal talent for one album, LOL
It's such a standout song by them. So completely different from everything else they did. More heavy on the vocals. The horns don't even come in until the end. Arguably one of the greatest collaborations ever! Undoubtedly my favorite Chicago song ever!
This is, by a far far margin, my favorite Chicago song. I really dig the trippy, psychedelic sound. Wish I knew of this song during my smoking days. Or is it daze…?
Back in 1975, they embarked on the Beachago tour, a successful run of arena shows when Chicago was in their critical and commercial heyday and The Beach Boys were enjoying a resurgence due to great nostalgia for the 1960s. The bands were brought together by their connection to the music producer, Jim Guerico.
Peter Cetera plays the acoustic guitar whilst Terry Kath plays the bass on this track. There is a great live performance of this from their concert entitled New year's Rocking eve 1975!
Diamonds on your ears? You should give a listen to Paul Simon’s ‘Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes’, from his Graceland album. Thanks for this one, Harri.
Hi Harri, I went to see them when they were touring together in 1989, in Costa Mesa, California, at the Pacific Amphitheater. Awesome show. They called it the Beachago Tour.😊
Check out the mini concert "Chicago in the Rockies" they do this live outside with friends and family around pretty cool and intimate look at the band!
I got to see Chicago twice and both times were with the Beach Boys so yeah...once in the early 70s with Kath and once in the mid 80s without him. Both were great shows, I don't think they combined and did a song tho but don't remember now!
Chicago has been one of my favorite groups of all time. I practically listen to this song every day, Terry Kath (may he rest in peace 😔) and Peter Cetera's voices are pure gold. The Beach Boy's background harmonies are the icing on the cake. ❤❤
I have always regretted not seeing the Chicago/Beach Boys Concert Tour in the mid 1970s. Damn ,I bet that was amazing. I did se them separately though. Chicago in 1989 at the St. Paul Riverfest outdoors at the Mississippi river and saw Beach Boys original group back in 1973 at Notre Dame University .Their roadie, Jerry ,from Manchester ,England came up to our seats behind the stage before the concert spent time talking with us. A very cool dude. I have seen many great concerts in the past and am 73 today. Long live Rock!!!
The image of Terry playing a white P bass while singing this song on Dick Clarks' New Year's rocking eve the whole band in Tux's sublime Beach boy's backing vocals
This was one of the songs I insisted be played at my Late brother's homegoing service. Just a couple of weeks before he passed, I told him how much his singing voice reminded me of Terry Kath's on this particular song and he was so moved and grateful;. The thing is, it's the truth. So it played on the slideshow that we had playing at his service. This is the first song I recall him playing over & over again on our Hi-Fi. It's truly beautiful and the harmony the Beach Boys added helped its perfection!!
Thank you for sharing this Keedeeg. I hope this reaction gave you some comfort. May your brother RIP and heart felt condolences to you and your family. 🙏
This was the song that I used to listen to on the way home from my then girlfriend now wife's house back when we were living about 150 miles apart. We met in college and lived in the same city during school season but I had to work in the shipyards about 150 miles away during breaks to earn money to pay my tuition. So I would get off work every Friday and drive down to take her out that evening and then drive home feeling very lonely but anxious for the next week to see her again. This song so reminds me of that time in the late 70's.
There's a live performance of this for New Year's Rockin' Eve. Beach Boys Carl, Mike, and Al sang the backups. Members of Chicago were dressed in tuxes and finely coiffed. Beach Boys were dressed in what looks like sailing togs. I always thought R. Lamm sang lead on this, but the video shows Terry Kath. Good performance. Check out Dialogue on the same appearance. Another good performance. Finally, you might want to catch the L&F cover of Wishing You Were Here. (As always, incredible and like D.I.M.E.)
Seen that video so many times. The guy with the pepper grinder does a heck of a job. Also interesting to see that Terry plays bass on this one instead of Peter.
@@jxchamb Ha. I was so focused on their clean-cut appearance for the occasion that I never noticed that, even though I've watched it a few times. Wonder if that ever happened other times.
Thank you Harri for this awesome video reaction. Hope you are well. Are you releasing anymore music? Hugs and best wishes to you and a great 2024 to you!
Original Chicago had three lead singers. Robert Lamm most famous for Saturday in the Park played keyboards, Terry Kath of Colour My World and Make Me Smile fame was lead guitar and of course bass player Cetera you default to. Add in 3 horns and a drummer and you have the original 7.
This song and Saturday Night by Elton John take me back to when I got my driver's license and was granted permission to take my parent's 1973 Ford Maverick out by myself. Oh yeah........was feeling the freedom.
The lead singer is Terry Kath who accidentally shot himself. He was only 31. This is My favorite Chicago song. It has an unearthly beauty. Peter Cetera wrote it but had Terry sing it because it needed a deeper vocal than he could supply. Peter plays guitar for a change & Terry plays the bass. You have to try Hard to say I'm Sorry next.
Nope, Terry Kath on lead, Peter Cetera and a few of the Beach Boys on backup vocals. Also, in a changeup, Terry Kath played bass and Peter Cetera played guitar on this track.
I love the early stuff by Chicago. Chicago I and II are fabulous albums. I have to be honest though, at some point, the band became unlistenable for me. It started before Terry Kath's tragic passing, so that isn't entirely the reason. The whole Peter Cetera era was abysmal. This song isn't horrendous, but it's far from what I loved about Chicago.
The other two guy's that you don't know there names are Terry Kath lead vocals and guitar and Robert Lamb lead vocals and keyboards are both better singers than Peter Cetera.
Perfectly said and thank you my brother.
Great pick harri was waiting for someone to find this 2 group gem.with terry kath singing 😊
Hard to find anything better than 1970's Chicago. There is a reason why this music is called "Classic Rock" 200 years from now, people will consider this classic music!
70s Earth Wind and Fire. heheh Both are fantastic and best at harmonies and horns!
thats terry kath singing, the same guy thst was going nuts on the guitar solo on 25 or 6 to 4 live at tanglewood
It was Terry Kath lead singing. May he Rest in Peace.
Terry Kath was the heart and soul of the group.
Great song and special piece of music history with this magical collaboration. Instantly takes me back to the laid back, patient era of 70s music
This collaboration of CHICAGO with the Beach Boys then, was awesome !
I love Terry's voice.
Yup, that's the Beach Boys in the background!
Terry Kath was so damn talented. What a voice! He takes lead on a lot of great Chicago songs. Color My World, for example. Very deep, bluesy voice....
From their 1974 album, Chicago Vll, a beautiful ballad written primarily by Peter Cetera, with simple but powerful lyrics.

Great song. In the mid 70's, both bands went on tour together and I saw them do this live. That's guitarist Terry Kath doind the lead vocal.

Day on the Green at the Oakland Coliseum for me... beach balls were flying during this song
@@alcambrola2834 Yep, she was smitten and he responded. They got married. It lasted till Dennis died. Then she and Bobby got back together.
Wow. Are they still together?@@robinfra52
It was a group effort with bands getting equal credit.

'70s Chicago had a few songs without the horns. Terry Kath's "Oh Thank You Great Spirit" (ChicagoVIII) was a kind of tribute to Jimi Hendrix.
Love this song!!
Ohhhhhhh...a song of my youth...the memories...transporting me back in time....thanks so much❤
Beautiful song♥️Love Chicago and The Beach Boys♥️💙
I had forgotten this song. Thank you for bringing it back to me.
Early Chicago was great, some of my favorites.Terry Kath leads some of their best songs. This is one of them.
One of their best later tunes!
A beautiful love classic👍🎶😍
Fantastic Song ❤
One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands!
Wonderful and lush , Harri .
So evocative .
Timeless brilliance never gets old .
Another fantastic Chicago song. Thank you Imadrummin and Harri.

Spot on Harri. Vocals carried the song all the way. That recording session had to be such a treat for all of them and eventually for all of us.👍

Dream like & dissonant I like this song very much.. I'd forgotten about it! 🌌
Check out the mini concert "Chicago in the Rockies" they do this live outside with friends and family around pretty cool and intimate look at the band!
I think the Beach Boys were essentially singing what otherwise would have been the horn lines... it's beautifully done!

There's a live version of this in a concert on a Colorado ranch where Chicago lived and recorded in a studio there
I was 7 when this came out and remembered it always on the radio

Terry Kath is the lead singer. Chicago was never the same after his death.
The image of Terry playing a white P bass while singing this song on Dick Clarks' New Year's rocking eve the whole band in Tux's sublime Beach boy's backing vocals
You're right as usual, definitely channeling a bit of the Beach Boys on this one. Never knew they were actually part of this track.
The Beach Boys here are Dennis Wilson, Carl Wilson, and Al Jardine. Peter Cetera joined them for harmonies and the bridge.

Chicago’s first number one! Plus the Beach Boys toured with Chicago in the early seventies. It was the first concert I ever went to as a teenager.

Beautiful song. Have always loved it and the incredible mood that it sets.
There's a live, awards show version of this song out there in youtube land and it's impressive!
Yessir, a great collaboration-one of my favorite Chicago tracks, cuz I love The Beach Boys sound (as imagined into existence by Brian Wilson)
Not a bad bit of drumming fro such a smooth and mellow song, eh? Really good.

I think this is my favorite Chicago song. So beautiful! Thanks Harri and Imadrummin 🌺✌️

Only because I heard another reaction recently, try Chicago's "no tell lover". I had forgotten about it, and it's a beautiful song.
That's Robert Lamm on the original lead, followed by Peter Cetera.
