This has to be my all time favorite track from Chicago. "Wishing You Were Here" is a classic ballad along with The Beach Boys harmonies and backing vocals, this makes too much sense. Perfect!!
A perfect blend of vocals and music 🎵 I heard this song many times before I realized that it was The Beach Boys that did the background vocals I hate to say it but you will never see this mix of talent ever again
Happy Birthday Terry, wishing you were here along with Carl and Dennis Wilson. I saw them perform together at Alpine Valley, East Troy,WI back in 1978.
That must have been a GREAT concert. I really miss the 1970s. I'd go back and even repeat my 4 years in the United States Marine Corps 73-77. As a matter fact, I'd go back several times, maybe just stay there.
I saw Chicago and the Beach Boys live at Angels Stadium sometime in the early 70s I can't seem to find it on CZcams anywhere. Wish I would have appreciated it more.
Both bands are so very melodic and harmonic. They really compliment each other. They did an entire show together ,would have loved to had seen that. My older brother would play 8 track tapes of Chicago and the Beach Boys when I was little. I would fall right to sleep. Great sounds.
Every time I watch this I love Terry Kath more and wish he were still here. Such a tragedy. Wonder what great music he would have made if he had lived. But I guess things happen for a reason....what that reason is...who knows..but I'll always miss him.
Loved Terry Kath's vocals and guitar work (r.i.p.). A rare change-up here where Terry is on bass (as he started off in his days before joining Chicago Transit Authority) and Cetera is on guitar.
I can remember some intense intimacy with one of my ex's while this song played.....you hold each other so tight.....I can't put the feeling of the love shared into words. They simply don't do it justice. That song from Ambrosia says it all....How much I feel.....
Terry's LEAD vocals are live. Peter's LEAD vocals are live. The rest of the song is from the studio version. The background vocals, the horns at the end, any keyboard sounds you hear. They're all from the studio version. The 2 lead singers are live.
+nakedfaves Finally someone else besides myself has a pair of ears. You are 100% correct. And Mike Love is standing there, lip-syncing Dennis Wilson's part, in essence. ML (thankfully) is not on the record. Why people can't tell this, is amazing to me. Especially since everything else they did on that show was live, so you could really hear the difference when this RECORD started playing.
Wondered about that....was looking for the horn player....Beach Boys could sing perfect in concert...wonder why they didn't do the BU vocals live here??? I was just enjoying the song....I know they didn't lip sync it on the record, and I've seen the beach boys live enough times to know they could sing this in their sleep without going off key. Odd....contract?? Why would they get all dressed up to come out and lip sync.....thats the question.I guess the other is why couldn't they find a horn player to do that...not a difficult part.
ALWAYS ASSUME A GUN IS LOADED!!! This can never be stated too much. Terry Kath died because there was a round LEFT IN THE CHAMBER of his semiautomatic handgun.
As someone once said to me ..... There's ways of killing yourself without killing yourself. One thing many cant do is the "fame" that goes with the fame & fortune !! (its on record Terry struggled with depression yet why ?? they opened up for Jimi Hendrix because Jimi thought Terry was the shyt !!! ) RIP Terry where this band would've gone had you stayed to referee so Missing Peter !! The ONLY other voice behind Chicago
His daughter, Michelle Kath Sinclair made a documentary about her dad in 2016. There was a bullet left in the chamber even though the clip was removed. Sad & tragic accident. He didn't commit suicide.
I've seen the Beach Boys many times. They are true masters of vocal harmonies. I detected some small variations from the recordings, especially at 2:28, 2:50 and 3:50. It still sounds masterful, just different. Different enough for me to be sure it was live.
I think it's a prerecorded backing track with a live vocal. Not sure that the Beach Boys' vocals are live here, but Kath definitely is singing a live lead vocal over a recorded track.
Kevin Barnard Of course it is! One should never take drugs unless prescribed by a Physician. I wonder how much more music he could have performed had he lived. What a shame, what a waste!
Where's Dennis. Wasn't he and Robert married to the same Karen Lamm? Maybe that is why we don't see him here? All gifted incredible - thank you for posting
Thanks for pointing that out. Dennis Wilson played the drums & rarely sang even backup on any of the Beach Boy songs. In concert, he'd sing You Are So Beautiful, since he was do popular with the ladies but his drinking & drug use ruined whatever voice he did have
First two rules of gun safety - treat all guns as if they're loaded, even if you "know" it isn't; never point a loaded gun at something you don't intend to shoot (see first rule for definition of loaded gun). So many tragedies could be avoided....
Weird.....it sounds like Terry and Peter are singing live, but the rest is lip synced along with the instruments from the studio recording. I have heard the studio version hundreds of times.
This was done live this was in 197 1 New years night after 12:00 it was 1972 I was 11 years old watching this I was mesmerized and amazed at the singing and the instrumental playing and singing live they were singing live.
Is is possible that this song gets EVEN BETTER over time?????
Peter Cetera has a great voice, but listening to Terry Kath's smooth voice gives me chills every time. Wish he was still here.
Peter Cetera's voice gets old after awhile.. That's why I prefer early Chicago stuff. They changed up the lead singers more..
Totally agree. Such a tragic loss of Terry Kath. He was such an incredible talented musician
@@donnamccall8063 No it isnt
Every single time!
Yes, u don't know until there r gone. But in his case we all knew how special he was.
You know you're bad ass if the Beach Boys are your backing vocals
You're right best comment ever 👍😎
Nailed it!
Best band EVER, singing backup,
for the band so good, they named
a city after them!
Carl Dean, Dennis Carl, and Alan.

Terry Kath has such a great voice on this song.
Here best. Soft voice.
Beautiful song, especially with the Beach Boys harmonies. Wishing YOU were still here, Terry and Carl.
Dennis.
Miss all three. Miss Mikey, with every round,
so far.

This was the 1974 Broadcast of Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve.
A perfect blend of vocals and music 🎵 I heard this song many times before I realized that it was The Beach Boys that did the background vocals I hate to say it but you will never see this mix of talent ever again
Nearly 50 years and still magical. Those two soloists, those vocals, and those uniforms. Amazing!
This is the best version I have ever heard . . . . and LIVE ??
Amazing !!
Only Kath & Cetera were singing it live. The studio track was used, which is why we can hear Dennis Wilson singing harmony.
I dedicate this song to my mother Lynne Marie Dobbins. I miss you so much and love you with all my heart....
Terry looked very handsome and healthy here.
What a lovely mesmerising song, sung by legends.
Well said.
Timely memory of two great groups. Always remembered.
R I P Guitar God Terry Kath
I saw Beach Boys & Chicago in Anaheim at the Angel Stadium! What a great time we had!!!
Same here. May 23, 1975. I felt it was the Beach Boys who won the crowd. They had all that fast-paced surf sound going for them.
Happy Birthday Terry, wishing you were here along with Carl and Dennis Wilson. I saw them perform together at Alpine Valley, East Troy,WI back in 1978.
That's not Dennis Wilson
@@nancyglem I know, the drummer is Danny Seraphine from Chicago!
That must have been a GREAT concert. I really miss the 1970s. I'd go back and even repeat my 4 years in the United States Marine Corps 73-77. As a matter fact, I'd go back several times, maybe just stay there.
Sublime- love how Terry back off and looks up to beach boys when their harmonies kick in…mad respect for everyone on that stage

Brings back sad and beautiful memories* RIP BUDDY*
I remember watching this classic on New Year's Eve 1974.
Gives me chills….Terry and Peter… wow!

Saw in Houston 70 sumpin. Great, 3 encores. No one wanted to leave. Started to take down stage... put it back up.

So incredible together Beach Boys & Chicago👏🎶🌊🌹I was thrilled to see them in Concert in Foxbororo, Mass. Summer of 1975🎹🎷🎺🪕🪘
You saw them in concert??? Awesome!!!! 👍
45 лет, как нас покинул прекрасный музыкант...! КАК ЖАЛЬ! СПб.
I went to a lot of great concerts in the 70's. The Stones, Clapton, Rod Stewart, J. Giels, Linda Ronstadt, etc. This one was the best, by far.
It is a New Years Eve TV show
Dos grupos muy buenos musical y vocal ok
Beautiful and haunting song.
I can't stop watching this....this is fabulous!
Kath was Chicago! Never the same once he was gone.
Oh to be there!!! Missing Terry Kath & wishing you were here still❤

A very nice reason to "live in the past"!!
Lovely voice. Wish he is still here
Very nice having the Beach Boys join in on this classic. Just two iconic groups joining in on a song.
Loved Terry Kath's vocals and guitar work (r.i.p.). A rare change-up here where Terry is on bass (as he started off in his days before joining Chicago Transit Authority) and Cetera is on guitar.

Absolutely stunning. This is the best thing I've seen all year.
Dang that sounded really good :)
One of the best bands ever. Amazing some. Terry and Peter swapping instruments on this one.
This is music. Exquisite.
All those lucky people in the audience...

Love both of these bands ! Super Duper 👌.
Saw them together the summer of '75 at the Capital Centre in DC (Landover, MD) with my best girl at the time. Great times!!
Early years manager of Chicago, James William Guercio, and later The Beach Boys in the 1970s, can be seen playing acoustic guitar.

Jorge Callico True, but I will never understand why? Terry had a beautiful young daughter he left behind, so sad and ridiculous at the same time.

I have a feeling Terry wanted more than this...he looked so different a year later. A troubled soul I think. So 😔 sad...
Drugs played a big part in Terry Kath's accidental death. A crying shame.
Kevin Barnard Of course it is! One should never take drugs unless prescribed by a Physician. I wonder how much more music he could have performed had he lived. What a shame, what a waste!
Just say no to drugs period. They are useless and only poison the body.
Yeah! You're probably right!!!
Interesting that for this performance Kath is playing bass and Cetera is playing acoustic six string.
Laurie Higgins classical guitar, notice the body difference from an acoustic
