You are not an engineer, you are a mechanic 😂😂😂😂😂
Don't even get me started lol
Worst idea I ever did was an efan. They draw high current through the wires and relays. Lots of heat and room for things to go wrong. One of my relays melted. The fan went out and before I could catch it. My engine overheated and warped the heads. The cost to rebuild was greater than the value of the truck. I ended up scraping it. I have learned to respect the 100's of millions in engineering into these vehicles.
Lots of things draw high current, If you have the proper relays and wiring, there shouldn't be a problem
The majority of vehicles nowadays have electric fans
I melted a pin on the 30 amp relay. Then I upgraded to 70 amp relay. No problem at all now.
@@PoorManModsstill no issues?
@PoorManMods why won't it works for Sequoia?
Pretty much described what happens when you don't run the right wire size and relay size for the item you want to run. I've had electric fans now for over 10 years including a pair of flexalite 16" 3000cfm fans cooling a 600hp Cummins 5.9. wires only get hot when you have too much current on a small wire.
Thank you for this video!! I’m gonna upgrade now!
youre welcome!
This is the kind of project where you could use a 3d printer to custom print brackets for the fan to the stock bolt points. Great mod!
Yeah, I could easily 3D print a bracket or even make one out of steel
But it's secured pretty well for now and it's hidden so I didn't feel like putting that much effort into it 😆
Have not had any problems with my electric fan..3 core radiator as well...I run it on a 75 amp push pull switch i need to find one of those thermostats u are talking about that u can put in the radiator
Definitely a good idea, fan controller is cool
Thank you!!
Great job wiring that stuff up and it working good. Kudos Freddy!!!!
Good video and info brother!!! In my research, I hear guys love the fans off the Continental's. Not sure of size and such, but they are highly rates and can be had at the bone yards.
Cheers From Motown/Dearborn. Oh also, no worries on the zip ties. If ya ain't riggin, you ain't ridin. lol
Heck yeah thank you!
I used the same controller on my Mazda truck. It's pretty good but I wish it was built better. Would be nice if it was better looking and in a sealed in a nice enclosure. Most of all I wish it had a connector instead of wire just going into that potting material. Also a thread in sensor option would be nice
Yeah, I agree!
Dang. I was watching this hoping to do it on my Gen 1 Sequoia. Great video though. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! You need like an extra half inch of clearance for to fit on the Sequoia unfortunately
@@PoorManModsCan you please explain why you need extra clearance for Sequoia? Thanks.
@@CalebaFamily The radiator and engine are closer and there's not enough room for the fan
Will this work on an 03 tundra
What part of the Sequoia engine did it hit? And was that a 1st Gen Sequoia?
It hits the fan pulley I believe. A 2003 Sequoia
Looks similar to my 98 Lincoln Town car electric fan. I've thought about testing the fit to my 03 v6 sr5 toyota 4runner
It's probably the same fan or extremely similar
I hear all good things about the Lincoln's fans from many hotrodders etc.
Will this fit in a 92 4Runner, if so what kind of relays and wiring do you recommend to improve it?
my 92 v6 4runner, I used 95 Ford Taurus fan. Had to trim fan shroud a little bit. Fan width almost perfect fit. High speed connection for engine cooling. High speed used Dakota Digital 70 amp relay to withstand 110F desert heat. (30 amp, 1 of the pin melted). Low speed connection for A/C. Low speed used eBay generic 30 amp relay. Fan turns on at 200F and turns off at 185F thru a lower radiator in-line hose fitting adapter with temperature switch from eBay by seller american-volt. About 2mpg gain, same as Poor Mans Mods Freddy. Also switched the factory 60amp alternator to 100amp MR2 alternator.
Heck yeah 👍
All you need to add now is get a cooler running thermostat which will lower Temps and have a cooler running engine and will increase power and fuel efficiency
It doesn't need to run any cooler
Why wouldn't it work on Sequoia?
I was thinking about doing electric fan conversion on my truck but I want to add a fan specifically for the AC is it possible to put a fan that is too big would it hurt the AC
I dont think theres such thing as too much air. When driving down the highway at 65-80 mph, you are getting more air flow than most fans can generate and its not hurting a thing.
@@PoorManMods that's exactly what I said but I was trying to get an extra opinion I don't want to mess anything up but I do want to do an electric fan conversion and have a separate one for the AC
@@PoorManMods and thank you
Well this fit for a 2016 Tacoma?
i dont think so
Can we get a long term update, updated links and a year and engine size for the mustang so we can find the rad fan. When I look up s197 rad fan it pulls up a jeep wrangler dorman fan that doesn't say s197 anywhere
I daily drive this 4runner and have absolutely no issues at all, the fans rarely kick on, only when I use AC or sit at drive through for minutes. I dont regret doing this upgrade at all. All S197 mustang fans are the same, this is the one you need amzn.to/4cZ1seN
@@PoorManMods thanks for that update. I found with my efan kit that climbing hills in 4lo or towing up the hills under full throttle was the hardest loads. I'm replacing my current fan and will see how this one compares to the flexalite cyclone I've been running
@@ttsupra2503 no problem! Im sure this fan will do the job, it was designed to be in a car with a 5.0 and 5.4L supercharged V8. It should give you good enough air flow when needed 👍 if not you could also try upgrading your radiator if yours is stock? I don't go wheeling in mine so it's not a problem
@@PoorManMods I have the duel core csf radiator for the 4runner in my Tacoma
I just bought a 91 LS400. I hate that the fan is always on. It ruins the quietness of the car that they put so much engineering in to achieve
Yuppp, convert to electric ⚡
could this work with LS 400 ?
The same concept would work but I don't think the Ford fan would fit the radiator
@@PoorManMods I'm going with Nissan dual fan which have 4 wires for each fan to run 2 speeds
I'm using something similar to the digital thermo unit you use but does it last?
So how many mpg on average now vs originally?
Definitely improved fuel economy with this fan upgrade, but I then immediately installed headers which actually hurt fuel economy and put me back to what I was getting originally 😆
@@PoorManMods so was it like 15mpg to 17mpg before headers?
@@paladain55 i was getting 18-19 before the headers
Whats the cfm rating??
Not sure but it's more than enough for my 4runner
@@PoorManMods im in az....110 degrees...tacoma is fine around town....194...but gets to 210 on hiway at 72 mph.....and 224 going up steep grades
@@tomkelly3896 I do not know the CFM. I just know it's a fan originally designed for a 5.0 iron block V8 car and it does just fine and those cars and in my 4Runner. If you're having issues running hot, you may want to consider a larger radiator if you're going to consider changing to this electric fan
Anyone had luck with a 5vz?
