    Just bought the pedal myself. It is by far the most versatile and powerful dist pedal I've tried in a long time. You can use it just for a crunch sound or as a straight solo pedal. Doesn't take much to get a good tone, either.
    A bit pricy perhaps, but worth it imo.

    Love this review. Everyone else is running this pedal into amps costing 3-5x the cost of the pedal. You give us what we all want to hear, some well executed classic =VH= into MXR 5150 -> cheap ass amp head and this confirms it still sounds amazing (well, for the OD and distortion sounds good anyway, for clean I'm convinced you still need a good clean tube amp)

    Super excellent job! Yes,when using "amp in a box" type peds like this, the amp needs to be set clean otherwise garbage out. Especially in front of a early 800 with no loop. If you use a reverb after the MXR 5150 (or without the MXR) with the Marshall with gain above noon it all sounds like crap. Same goes for My OD-1X. Both pedals sound better than the pre section of any of my Early 800's. You did a great job here.

    It's funny about the interaction between the pedal and amp - a different amp (not a criticism) would change that situation. I demo'd this pedal through a Deluxe Reverb RI and it sounded pretty good for the 20 minutes I was messing around with it. Nice playing on Drop Dead Legs - an underappreciated song off of that album. Great video. Fantastic sound. Glad to see you givin' some love to a SS amp. I scored a "Dime Amplification" head, made by Dean, at a local pawn shop for $125.It was designed by Gary Sunda, who designed most of the Randall gear. It's basically a modded RG100. I view it as an oversized distortion pedal, with built in power. On certain days, it's just what the doctor ordered. Have you ever tried the "Amptweaker" pedals, designed by James Brown ? He worked with Ed on the first 5150's at Peavey.Good stuff, Enjoying your vids. Rock On

    I have this pedal, I like it. The gate is nice too. It would be better if the gate switch wasn't a tiny finger switch, but a big foot stomper type to turn the gate off for solos. So many dist pedals with gates don't have foot type switches for the gate. Really unfortunate. I'd buy this thing again if they reissued it with a real footswitch.

    Why doesn't anyone demo these through basic solid state combos? It makes no sense putting it into a slightly dirty tube preamp into a tube poweramp... when the majority of prospective buyers, while they might have a tube head, will be interested in practicing with a solid state amp.

    Wrong! You're insane! This pedal ONLY works in the full EVH brand setup accept the amp head. That must be marshall 100 watt and non master volume. Fact! This pedal only works in the 4 EVH pedal set. You're fully mad! And need to step away from the camera! You're an ego maniac!

    • @dreyn7780
      @dreyn7780 Před 6 lety

      EVH is a famous sound. So to make the products do the sound you've only been given a few options to make it all work.
      You've got to forget all those 1980's amp adjusting techniques and product buying methods and learn what to do with buying the very latest in product design.
      It goes without saying that a person who is buying EVH product ALREADY HAS BEEN buying van Halen product. You can't just, all of a sudden, buy into a product range which has been in development for 35 years and expect to make 1 item workout for you. NO! You're supposed to have been following ed with your old product purchases. You're supposed to already have an ed guitar and speakers in a box and all the pedals. But you can't afford the BIG amp expense of an EVH amp.
      The days where a player could buy just 1 guitar and expect to get 1001 songs out of the thing, are OVER! This overdrive pedal will ONLY make the EVH 5150 sound from every product in the EVH brand in the signal path ACCEPT the Non Master volume marshall amp. This info implies that a master volume marshall WON'T work with EVH products. And it's TRUE! Knowing this FACT, you should realise this pedal will be useless for fender amps, Mesa amps, etc...
      This pedal NAILS the EVH 5150 amp sound almost exactly! But you've got very limited options for products which can make this thing do the job its built to do.

    • @dreyn7780
      @dreyn7780 Před 6 lety

      If you get this pedal, you're supposed to already have the non master volume marshall amp, a 5150 cab, a Frankenstein EVH guitar, 4 EVH pedals, (wah, phase 90, vintage flanger, this 5150 overdrive) and ALL EVH cables to connect the pedals, and you're going to sound just like the VAN HALEN LIVE recording from the Tokyo dome show. But you've got to be plugged into ed's fav setup setting from that style amp. Which are all EQ settings maxed and you're plugged into the amps high input section.
      If you're using the amps low input section, you'll never hear the famous sound.

      If that little bit of knowledge has impressed you then what it eludes to is the VAST creation the van Halen has done for us all! He's added another 300+ useable sounds for us all to try out and explore! The true total number of new sounds he's invented is probably close to 900 sounds, not nobody has got time to listen to most of those and they probably aren't vastly different to many of them. 300 useable easily define able uniquely van Halen sounds is ALOT to explore! With each new guitar he makes or amp, the number of sounds he owns goes up greatly! You can live out the rest of your life just exploring all those new van Halen sounds.

    Thru a Randall? I have a Randall 100 2x12. That Fair Warning tone was phenomenal. I'm getting one of these pedals. Spot on. Thanks for the demo. Great one. So far your the only guy that has run it in front of an amp.
