Thoughts and prayers for Van Dijk at this difficult time.
Grow up ffs
@@Do27ggstop taking life so seriously
Stop tacking time seriously ... @@Do27gg
Messi and Ronaldo had no problems playing the maximum amount of games possible in a season for over 15 years, no excuses.
Mate, there’s soo many arguments contrary to what van dijk and other players have complained about. They just want all the money for minimal work whilst living their dream. Take a pay cut, go and work a conventional job for 45 years and scrape by rather than have a 15 year career and retire a millionaire or go and play a lower level and play less it’s fairly simple
Both their fitness records are staggering, I remember from 2016-2020 Ronaldo missed just 6 games to injury and illness and in that time went all the way in Euros and 3 UCLs
Mate I think he's complaining about the "maximum amount of games" being way more than like 5 years ago
@@GOATZELWARDBANDWAGON.”Way more?”
There isn’t way more lol. There are 4 more games per season for international games.
They don’t pay your wages, your club does. Refuse to play the international friendlies 🤦🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
@@theblackprotagonist5936 agreed. Imo internationals shouldn’t be mandatory. If players refused, the authorities would soon buck their ideas. Failing that just scrap friendlies and let all national teams enter tournaments blind. That would make it interesting 😂 I’d love to see that.
If Van Djik's health is in jeopardy surely he needs to take Klopp and Liverpool Football Club to court for a lapse of duty of care!! Ridiculous! 🙄
Good shout he could
Really do with the compensation , pay off for his pension.
Maybe he needs to find a new profession?
One idea is if you're in Europe you're not in the league Cup. Gives smaller teams chance at trophy and eases fixture congestion. Everybody wins
But without the “top” teams then viewership would decline, then sponsorship will go down, less money to be distributed
The big teams have HUGE squads that they dont use..... ROTATE

I would say to Virgil go work in a warehouse for a week (minimum wage) see if he complains after that

absolutely redundant point. Just because you're unhappy with your profession don't dump on people more successful than you.

@@stuartgolby9767 yeah right m8 lol
@@beefitz7269 I know I'm right 🤣🤣
100% insane.A player does not have to play every game, that's down to the manager. With the money in football, you can have two players per position, if not more. Wages are insane, if you can't handle it, go somewhere else. In fact, more games would be great.
Pretty sure they are both on the juice
Well Virgil, if you're feeling a bit tired ask the boss if you can miss a game.
Just get sent off and you could miss 3 games or like Mitrovic 8 games for the right indiscretion. I'm tired of the show ponies whinging.
He’s one of their best players, which is why he can’t just miss a game ffs
Pretty sure his boss also said Premier has way too stuffed schedule.
You're playing 90mins 1 or maybe twice a week, its your job, your career, i dont like working 5 days a week but its my job, footballers are on another planet!
Tbf the rate of injuries is increasing with the increase in matches.
You do realise it’s 90mins at the top level not down by the park on a Sunday
Just because there's more money in football, doesn't mean the players should be playing 100 games a season. The fans want to see quality matches that make sense. If you look at Basketball, they play 82 games in a season, players are earning ridiculous amounts of money but majority of games are not as exciting. People only look forward to the playoffs. We don't want football to go down that path. It needs to be managed better and make it more efficient.
No one's playing 100 games or even close
Its not just more money, its ridiculous money, normal people have to work their whole life, a good footballer works for 15 years and then is set for the rest of their life.
They should stop whinging and be grateful for the 200k a week. The quality of football is better then ever
The squads are big enough. Maybe coaches should actually coach the bench players to be good enough instead of trying to rely on 11 players week in week out. Also clubs that have more money can afford to buy better bench players…now these players want less games. Absolute nonsense!!!
So they are happy to take the perks of the job, but don’t want to give. Imagine working 10 hours a week and earning 15 million a year. Must be horrible in comparison to Joe bloggs who works 40 hours a week for a 25k salary 😆
@@JamesSmith-ds2hi If they doubled your salary and hours a week, you would complain that you're working too many hours.
It appears these days Liverpool players & coach are coming up in 80% of pundits discussions. Henderson said this, Virgil said that, Jurgen's "replay", Trent can't defend, Salah's going to Saudia, bla, bla, bla. Am not complaining coz it proves LFC is an exciting, amazing club,..YNWA💪🏿‼️

@@P.Rick316 I said am not complaining,.. don't u understand Kenyan English..😂⁉️
If the games are too much, ask your boss to play less games. Changing your hours kinda thing. Ask to not play certain competitions or days. If it’s such an important thing for you, do that.
Agree with Simon… players are becoming lame
players careers are being shortened because of how many games they play today, it doesn't help a lot when the new ucl format adds more games and refs adding 15 mins to stoppage time
@@Charlie_Niceat anfield they were
@@Charlie_Nicewere they doing that stuff when you first started watching football? No, but you adapted to it. He is paid to do the same.
Wtf is this comment
Can they discuss why, for example, Man Utd has 16 players injured, Chelsea has about 10 to 12,...and EPL is only on match-day 8..??
That's what you get for buying overhyped players that are not motivated
More games will lead to more rotation. Managers will make decisions fans disagree with to protect important players from injury.
Like Klopp will have to bench VVD and maybe start Konate with Matip on Saturday in the Merseyside derby vs Everton?
There is a demand for the product. I say increase first team too 9 subs , this will elevate the pressure on players whilst allowing the whole squad to contribute , youngsters getting a game etc.
Get rid of qualifiers and friendlies.
SJ is right tbh... if you go to the big boys u have to be ready to play extra games or otherwise stay where u are
Dumb comment but whatever
Exactly. You’re signing on to win thing. Winning things means more games. You’re getting a pay rise to play more.
Players don’t play every game anymore anyway. Teams don’t stick out their first team until the later rounds nowadays anyway.
@@JP-es1nb you're not taking into account international games which are a lot more than before and it's gonna increase with the new UCL format and new club world Cup format
And teams don't rotate as much as you think especially with players wanting a lot more game time people don't like sitting on the bench and the ones on the bench aren't reliable
You rotate and risk the chance of dropping point and you the fan will come out and ask for the head of the coach
Liverpool had an injury epidemic 2 seasons ago cuz they were playing every competition almost every season
Same with city
Playing almost every game takes a toll
Seems you forget that
@@BiggestBirdonMars so what would you suggest they do .... ?
@@BiggestBirdonMars yeah the international games are the issue. I did comment on that but not here apologies. Now I’ve thought about it… just scrap the friendlies. Why bother. Everyone just be equal and go straight into tournaments blind. Would be fun 😂 but seriously yeah I don’t agree with international game increases. I don’t care for them either. I don’t believe players should be forced to go if called up and I think it should be a choice. If players were allowed to pick and choose, the authorities would soon get the message.
I don’t accept domestically as winning things means playing more games. Domestic cup games have been the same for ages now and they are to be managed. Regarding UCL, it should be champions for the leagues (maybe top two at max) fighting it out. Then we wouldn’t need all these games. But considering this isn’t possible, the teams do have more subs now and should buy more rotation players. It’s up to the club to manage their players and if they can’t, they fail.
FEWER matches. Less playing time, fewer matches. Here endeth the English lesson.
i know Martin meant a cigarette and not the orientation, but as a non brit its still funny to hear
Lol the "other Martin" 😅
The AUDACITY of vvd to say he plays too much when there are players on benches who cant get a start because their manager wont rotate the team. Saka great example, give him a rest. If the manager says i have nothing on the bench then tell your scouts to do their job and find some better players
Oh please and then you lose the game and say “should have played our best players”.
They aren't good enough. They play in some cup game get knocked out and sit on the bench all season collecting their wages. Vvd at least plays for his wages 😂
The solution is so simple, expand the player registration. There is definitely enough money in the game to have at least 2 decent 11's.
To answer Simons question about how you fix the problem. How about introducing a Working Time Directive, similar to that lorrybdrivers have to adhere to. Encompass that, with a financially fair play based (as best you can) squad?
A limit on an average amount of 'on pitch' hours per month, and ultimately per season. So then, for example, City might have to loose a top player towards the end of the season of they have overplayed, and over relied on him during the early and mid season?
Simon is right. There has to be some compromise.
Why is it only teams like Liverpool and city that complain about this every villa player asked this question this season have all said they love it and want to play as much as possible and have you se3n how.many games villa have played this season already
For now...Pressure on Villa is minimal in comparison.Villa arent favourites for anything.
The Villa players will be dropping like flies by the end of the season because they’re in Europe now. And you’ll see Emery talk about fixture congestion come march.
Those players complain because they play more games than everyone else.
Because top teams are the teams that play the most games as they’re in every competition
He may be partly right. The very high work rate and tempo demanded of managers like klopp might be unsustainable. So therefore klopp either rests him or slows his football down. Guardiola gets away with it because of the amount of possession city have
Yes Virgil, but your manager wants to replay dodgy VAR decisions.
4:18
Amazing point from Simon, go to a lesser team if you want more time off, problem solved.
Dense argument
Varane said the same thing
These people have no appreciation of how football has changed since they were young. Do Martin played 63 games in a season 49 years ago; football today is a great deal more about athleticism than it was 40 years ago. Why do you think so many players are getting injured despite the fact the game is no where near as physical than it was 40 years ago
Back then, did they make the money they make now?
@@robertpinson595Got nothing to do with the point but keep going. It'll get you nowhere
If he doesn't want to play, he can ask to be rested. Fans haven't complained that the number of games they pay to see are too much and they can't cope. Ronaldo goes extra length to remain in shape (same goes for many other top players). For 300k a week, you better play 4 matches a week.
@@namouche7118are you really that dense not to realise why he can’t just ask to not play
Need to get rid of this nations league nonsense. Does anyone even care for it🤷🏻♂️ I’m sure I’m not the only one who gets annoyed with the amount of friendlies getting in the way of prem games either.
Nowadays even when VVD plays it looks as if he is not aware and goes missing which effectively means he is already playing lesser games
Van Dijk should lay the blame at his club, FIFA and UEFA.
The FA Cup for one is now hugely devalued at the detriment to those lower down the football food chain, however I see no big sides moaning about pre-season tours to the other side of the world or UEFA/FIFA adding extra games/teams to comps.
It’s those games that add to the workload, but not taking part in them would mean those clubs and players stepping off the gravy train, which I’m sure they’ll be reluctant to do.
You can’t have your cake and eat it.
Lool i do 12 hours shifts back to back i wish i was in these football players position lool
100% Martin great players would be great in any era.
Why did Keown catch a stray 😂 ?
Maybe they should just rotate their players more than just having half the team on the bench for the 63 games
Van Dyke's position is nonsense. They aren't forced to play every game, nor are they entitled to.
Now I can't lay of the prayers part
Cap the number of games a player can play in a season. Say 35 league games and x internationals and x cup games depending on progress in the competition. That should shut everyone up.
Are people that dense that they don’t see the point he’s making? He’s not asking for your sympathy, he’s just saying the games are too congested for recovery.
Also as he’s captain he’s obviously been asked to say this on behalf of the team before people attack him individually
25% less games 25% less money, the money the clubs save on wages could go to reduced match day ticket prices.........😂😂 I'm laughing at myself for thinking it
They only ever play 2 games a week (except once at Christmas/ new year possibly). They can take it easier in training if need be.
2 games a week is a lot even not taking training into account… it’s not Sunday league it’s the highest level of football
@@Do27gg I don't know about that.. we often see teams performing very poorly when they've had a week between games..
@@TerribleEnglish and you also see teams play poorly when they’ve had to travel during the week
Number of games should be viewed in conjunction with recovery available and the demand on the players athletically too. Saying somebody played 100 games 50 years ago doesn't mean shite if the games not the same. Also some players could attend less games that they think are less crucial - such as games they feel their team would win without them. But really, a sports analyst team could do a thorough detailed research project into player welfare with regards to amount of games rather than too many opinions.
They should be doing this anyway. Liverpool don't have to play Van Dyck every game.
Remind me how many games championship sides play? Dont hear them complaining when theyre earning less than half of Van Dick
I was all-in and nodding in agreement before you let yourself down with the childish 'pun.' Grow TF up.
I’m getting a bit tired from working 5 days a week. I want to drop down to 2, and get paid the same
I’m 50/50 with this debate. Virgil Van Dijk being at a top club has to deal with a lot of games, however things like European Nations league, playing teams such as Andorra in qualifiers with all due respect is a waste of time. Matches could be cut down as Virgil is saying by some of these international matches.
OR - he could simply refuse to play in some games. Just tell the manager he can't play the next game, and move on. If you want the glory, play the games.

Simon always repeats the same song like he's part of a choir. Most top clubs that play in multiple competition have on average about 5-8 injuries or more, there are even 2-4 injuries that are serious, can impact the career & damage the players' health for life. De Bruyne, Courtois, Militao, Pedri & many other amazing players are out of months or most of the season because of injuries, no one would want to miss out on such amazing players & to not see them play.
Courtois's injury had nothing to do with fatigue

Hockey players play over 80 games, basketball players play over 80 games. Stop complaining about the conditions of being a multi millionaire. You dont have to do it. Its your choice as with any job and as with any job there are conditions and requirements you must adhere to if you want to keep that job.
Yeah, people played as many games in the past. They also played only on weekends in the league, very rarely played outside of mainland Europe, tournaments were rarely in places like Qatar, the quality of football was much lower, players spent most of the game passing back to their keeper.
The game is much, much quicker and it’s moved on massively. Alan Hansen is my favourite CB ever, but do you really think he could play 60 games against Saka or Haaaland these days?
The problem is meaningless friendlies. Did England really need to play Australia on Friday? Of course not, but it’s money for the FA.
Virgil is right about the salary too. They get very little of the billions football earns anyway, why should they accept less? There’s no game without them. Why should the FA be raking it in from these meaningless fixtures?
Simon at this point is a troll who goes against anyone and everyone to garner views and be viewed as some sort of a maverick. Just a couple of months ago, I remember him saying o n Talksport that the fans and managers shouldn't complain about busy schedules and as long as the players don't complain, it's a non-issue. Now that a player has complained, just like clockwork he prepares to go against them. What a joke he is, and the worst part is people all buy into him
Exacrly all his mindless minions compare them working in a factory to playing football at the highest level. Makes no sense

These guys are playing almost every 3 days and get 1 month break in a year.

Manchester United played 70 games last season???? Wow no wonder we’ve got so many injuries
It's ridiculous for anyone to tell any sports person that they have no right to voice an opinion on matters affecting their own health.
Even more ridiculous though for Van dyke to suggest playing less wouldn't mean wage cut. I'm sure he wouldn't think that playing more often wouldn't entitle him to ask for more.
In 79/80 Arsenal played 70 games. Only 1 sub per game, other than in 9 games in Europe, where two were allowed. In April Arsenal played Liverpool 4 times, Juventus twice, a north London derby plus two other games. Three games against Liverpool went to extra time. On May 1 the decisive game against Liverpool in the FA Cup was played. Pitches were more like a farm yard rather than the billiard tables that they play on now. Upto 5 subs. And the most games you will play is 63. Players were paid hundreds of pounds a week, not the eye boggling hundreds of thousands a week that we have now. Today’s players have every amenity at their beck and call. Not so in the late 70’s. Yes today’s players have social media to deal with, but they could abandon that if they so wished. Is more pressure on players now? Perhaps, but a lot of it is what you are going to attract in other forms of sports or celebrity status. VvD is past his best. Maybe Liverpool should renegotiate his terms to suit his place at Liverpool and the game more widely.
Players back then probably ran 2 thirds of what they do now. Back in an era where they all smoked and got drunk at half time. Grow up
Get rid of international breaks, change the Carabao cup so its only a one match semi final. Have one month a year (say November) when all the international fixtures are played so players know for that month therell be no club football and you can use the nations league format to qualify for World cups and Euros. Have pre qualifiers for the smaller nations in the same way they do for the Champions league so you dont get these ridiculous games like San marino who are just going to get used as cannon fodder. But also clubs need to stop dragging teams half way round the world for pointless preseason tours, i get that its a global game but you had a tournament over in America where you had premier league teams playing each other, what is the point of that?
They 3 fools talking about when football was as slow as tortoise😂😂😂

Here’s an idea Virgil … how about you half your salary which comes from all these games then … thought not. What a rude and boring thing to say when millions live in poverty working 500% more in a week and earning 50000% less in a week
Players have never been so detached from reality. Ordinary people are working five or six days a week to earn in a year what VVD earns in a day!
You play football once or twice a week until you are 34, then you retire with a fortune in your bank account. Trade that for working hard until you are 70 trying to pay off your mortgage.
It’s stupid. If you’re winning, you play more. It’s as simple as that. They don’t play every game anyway. You want the medals. You need to play for them.
If you you don’t want to play, pull out of the cups. But you won’t do that. You want the spoils but not the work.

Someone please look up the number of games the Arsenal double winning team of 1970/71 played that season with a first team squad of 14 players, one sub per game, atrocious pitches, more atrocious GBH tackles and not one player saying he was tired...George Graham was a member of that team...and plus, they were on peanuts for pay at the time.... just a generation now of spoilt self entitled drama queens...
