- Aston Villa have to be a big football club. Formed in 1874, Aston Villa are one of the founders of the Football League and can claim big club status through their titles, support and longevity. But just how big are they?
- Sport
One of the very biggest clubs. Without Villa league football wouldn't exist
You weren't the only ones that were there when it was founded you know.
@@lord--wolf8058 yes, other clubs were led by Villa in creating the football league
@@lord--wolf8058wolves 🤣🤣🤣 mind the gap
Forest fan here. Villa are the biggest club in the Midlands by some way
Not a Villa fan but yes for anyone who watched football before the Premier league was a thing Villa are a big club .
Villa were one of the biggest clubs in the world for the majority of the time football was played before the modern TV and social media era, their rise in this era was inevitable
Of course villa are a big club, and its good to see them doing well, from a man city fan
Sir Unai Emery taking Aston Villa back to where we belong
Seems that way mate
The Emery Era , gonna be Epic
Long live King Unai
I'm not a Villa fan and i don't know much about the club but even i know that Villa is a big club, history says that.
UP THE VILLA
We are massive. There is only one Aston Villa and we are unique in name and history. Approaching the Holte End for every home game the place just fills me with pride and right now with serious owners some great players and a fantastic manager it’s a great time to be a Villa fan.
Saying that every other club is unique in various ways and respect to all other fans.
Am a spurs fan, yes no doubt Villa are massive, great club, fans
Leeds fan of course Villa are a big club. love going to Villa Park proper away day. 1996 they broke my heart lol battered us in the League Cup Final.
always a good game between us though! would be great to see leeds back, never a dull game at elland road or VP!
@evangrew6579 Absolutely especially in recent times. 3-2, 3-3 some real great games. Two old school clubs going toe to toe fingers crossed we can renew the games next year.
Sheff United fan here Villa are a great club, great history and fantastic support.
I don't support them but obviously they are.
Does a bear shit in the woods!?😂
Massive 💜
Villa are the original. Villa have always been a big club and will always be a big club.
I'm a villa fan from north bham and blues fans are a bit of a novelty here. They've still got plenty of fans elsewhere though but villa are better supported from my personal experience
disagree lot of blues fans in north brum aswell
I've lived all over brum from Bartley Green to Sutton Coldfield. There are many more blues fans in south Birmingham like Northfield, Weoley Castle, Bartley Green, Kings Heath, Quinton and Bearwood etc than I have seen living in Erdington, Handsworth, Kingstanding, Perry Barr, Edgbaston and Great Barr. Barely ever saw a blues shirt in Kingstanding.
I even lived on St Andrew's Road at the back of the city ground but the population round there aren't really known for being huge footy fans. As a dumb kid I'd hang my Villa shirt in the window on match days. I can report no brick came through. I'd wear it on matchdays for the banter when walking around just before and after games and used to cry laughing at the stick. The only time I didn't show my shirt or walk with it on is when the Villa came. Zulus tend to stick together and you can cut the atmosphere with a knife.
TL;DR: I've lived all over Birmingham and have noticed more blue noses down south.
You're spot on. Loads of blue nose fans south of town. I'd say they maybe outnumber Villa fans a little. Lived all over and I hardly see a Blues shirt Kingstanding way.
Being European Champions makes you big, I just wish they didn't display the old FA Cup in a shop window overnight.
Forest won it twice but they don't sing about it in 2024...
Yes, from Liverpool supporter, a huge proud club that’s again on an upward cycle.
I hope to get to Liverpool in a few weeks. Might be obvious but there are some details to consider
Yes from an evertonian.
We are massive 💜
Just as big as Chelsea and Tottenham, bigger than Newcaslte and Everton.
Bigger than everton?
@@tonynesbit9673 yeah, i think so
Everton Fan here, Villa are a huge club and well respected.
IIRC Villa have the 4th largest fanbase in England, below Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal only.
West Ham fan villa are massive.
West Ham will be done a few weeks later
Of coarse they are a big club its not even up for debate
Getting bigger 🎉❤
Yes we are.
We are champions league pal ...beat spurs next week it's in the bag ...and you can take that to the bank UTV 💜💙🦁💙💜💜💙🦁💙💜💜💙🦁💙💜💜💙🦁💙💜
Ooops
There's a typo in the title btw.
Birmingham who???? I think you mean small heath
Too late my Staffordshire friend 😉
The city is pretty much Villa dominant now even in the Traditional Blues Areas , Forest and Wolves are the only other big teams of any significance in the Midlands now
@johngameson9768 cool story bro.
@@johngameson9768 just not true is it.
@@23bit7690% of brummies support Villa, go back to Worcestershire
do me a favour, only one club ....AVFC
Villa are the Vintage of World Football. They are Royalty.
Well of course they are! they are one of the oldest and most successful clubs in England, having won the Football League First Division seven times, the FA Cup seven times, the League Cup five times, and the European Cup and European Super Cup once. In the current Premier league there is probably only 5 or 6 clubs that you couldn't really call big.
UTV 🟣🔵
Bigger club then Citeh plus they have a good history
Liverpool fan. Villa are a huge club. Historically speaking they're arguably the first legacy club. They're the main team in Britain's second-biggest city and have a big global fanbase. Villa are the very definition of a slumbering giant who look to be waking up.
Massive not big! 🇬🇧👊
Of course Villa are a big club we don’t say we’re by far the greatest team the world has ever seen for no reason
Heres a quesion. What does the expression "big club" mean?
I think this whole thing may be related to how the media describe the teams that are relevant to their values of the time. We try to make videos looking at more factors than this to show that all teams should be respected for what each of them mean to different people.
I say success wealth worldwide support therefore biggest clubs are Barca Real Madrid Man Utd
Bigger than Chelsea, Tottenham and Man City, that's for sure.
Yes they are. But without recent success. Literal Victorian league titles
that was fun reading the comments (utv)
Sleeping Giant awakes
Aston villa a big club. Of course they are. Look at their honors
Of course they are a big club
Villa are a bigger club than Man City.
Yeah they are, but the obsession with how big a club are baffles me. Who’s arsed? It’s meaningless.

these days its not about trophies won its about money, everything comes down to that at the end of the day, so in my opinion it comes down to revenue the clubs produce and the current top six according to 2023 figures in order are man city, liverpool, man utd, chelsea, totenham and arsenal
This video is not about these days alone as, as you rightly say, it is more about money now. When you mention revenue you are really referring to how big a business they are. This is not a financial review but it may be interesting to consider how some clubs are more football clubs and others are more businesses.
@@bigfootballclubs i get your point, but it's their financial clout that makes them big clubs, and its always been that way although in the past clubs success led to that financial clout. there are lot of clubs with a good history for example everton, would have been considered a big club, would they be now though? money changes everything sadly, not always for the best
How many English clubs have won the European Cup ?
Bigger than Abu Dhabi Citeh.
Bigger than Spurs and Newcastle.
bigger than leeds , chelsea , newcastle and man city not as big as liverpool, man u, and arsenal
About Seven Foot Six- so yes! Very big.
lol NO....they are not. is the answer!!!! lol AND we call them Small heath round these parts ;)
good vid tho mate!
#utv
More trophies than Newcastle 😂😂
Like to know why they are not ,
What a silly nob even questioning the size of Villa.
Did this guy seriously say 'Serial bottlers, Bayern Munich'?. Wow.
I'm glad at least someone noticed. It is very hard for a club to win its first European Cup, but Bayern obliged not only Villa but Porto and Chelsea. They also bottled it in 99 giving it to Man Utd.
@@bigfootballclubs Yes, they've screwed up a few times but their overall record in major finals is 8 wins from 13. The '82 defeat to Villa was their first ever loss in 5 major finals. Needless to say, I was very happy they bottled it in 2012. 8-)
Correct grammar......IS Aston Villa a big club not ARE.
I know - it's a bit of a tricky one as it is what people usually say. I like to keep it colloquial
Were MASIVEEE
Basically yes.
Villa
Forest
Chelsea
Liverpool
Man City
Man United
That’s 6
You need to
get your facts right,Stan isn't the only full back to score a hat trick,Joe Willetts scored one for Hartlepools United. They were all penalties. Joe was a decent third division player who was wanted by Portsmouth who were league champions at the time.
i think he said the first , cant be arsed to check though
Obviously they are nowhere as big as Spurs or they would have been invited to the superhsiteuroleague, what a joke,Spurs in a superleague.Villa, big club but need to win things again which isn't easy.
What you mean by 'big': is Aston Villa a 'brand'? The answer is "no." This is thanks to media coverage, which tends to hang on to the branding they applied in the early years of the Premiership. So, despite being mid-table / below Villa in the table, the media continue to represent Chelsea and Man Utd as 'big' clubs because they need to sell the brand. The vast majority of Villa fans are local to Birmingham and the Midlands - whereas Man City, Man U and the other 'big' brands have attracted a global fan-base... because of their branding. Man City has had rapid branding since becoming the property of Abu Dhabi, attracting fans who have no real knowledge of football from before 2008, hence their fans taunting Villa supporters with the chant: "Champions of Europe, you'll never sing that", unaware that Villa were one of the first English champions of Europe.
Haha...that was City fans being sarcastic. You're the one with no real knowledge, it seems. ALL top clubs real fans are now being replaced with the tourists. The working class fans have been out priced.
One of the founder member? Don't you mean 'The Founders', Fact.
What a stupid question, they are bigger then arsenal. How many champions league or Europe cups, have arsenal won?. I'm a liverpool fan, they have won the biggest cups. Can't say they about arsenal 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
More trophies than Spurs!😂😂😂
how hard is that ...
Small heath are massive in small heath. Birmingham city need a name change as a soon to be league one team are embarrassing for the city
Villa still sing about winning the European Cup in 1982 that sums up the Brummie Dummies..When relegated to the championship they had to close half the ground..😅Big club my arse..
They are what they are. I can't stand all that childish "my club is bigger than yours" bs. It's not an opinion thing...they stand where they stand.
No. One League Championship since 1910 and One FA Cup since 1920. Don't make me laugh
Any club that's in the epl year in year out is "a big club"..
ha ha who cares
They’re not a big club. They’re doing quite well at the moment, but they think they’re bigger than they are as they have had limited success in recent times. I’d class them as a mid-sized club whose successes were in the past.
They mighht be old but certaintly not big, flash in trhe pan season last year, dont generate any money from the ground or fans, half that team wont be there next season. Cheerio
from a disgruntled bluenose
You must come from smallheath. Sotc.
Might like to think about that! We have the base for big things to come so watch this space!!
Average
Sunderland are bigger
Any reasons why?
More letters
May even mean fatter?
No. They had a little spell for 5 minutes in the early 80s. Before that they haven't won much this side of the Wall St crash.
No is the simple answer, they’re a mid club, not a big club not a small club
NO
Forest are bigger than Villa
We'll get to them later
Yes a big club, just like Newcastle🤣🤣🤣🤣 delusional both of them
and havent bought trophies
Sorry do not need to buy them we will earn them! ❤
the only reason man city and chelsea have taken Villa over with trophies is because they cheated the sysyem and bought them
@@antheadavison6494
Small heath are massive they got 7,000 in for a cup tie this season.
That’ll never happen again
They are what they are. I can't stand all that childish "my club is bigger than yours" bs. It's not an opinion thing...they stand where they stand.
