    Roy Keane could definitely be a Simeone type management figure in an ideal world - being a motivational figure in meetings & on the touchline. I think his problem was that he took on too much responsibility at Ipswich & Sunderland, rather than delegating tasks and sticking to doing what he was best at of motivational & final says on other aspects. Modern day managers have to build a team of coaches, analysts, scouts & fitness people round about them - it would be difficult for Keane when he's been out for so long to get that at a smaller club, and Keane is not the type of personality to be tolerant & perseverant with novices & new-starts at a smaller club. I also don't think a bigger club with that high standard of team already in place would take a chance on him. Also not sure that Keane's motivated to do it because football management takes over your life & not sure given how long Keane's been out of that mindset if he could ever go back to it. So, in short, I think it is safe to say that Keane's club managerial career in a mainstream European league is over, with the only possible return being to the Ireland national team, or perhaps an outside chance of the Saudi Arabian Premier League, or maybe a mid-season Celtic crisis appointment at some juncture, however, he does have that Simeone-style of management in him.

    Ireland have a very limited squad, and were drawn with three former winners of the trophy. It was a damage limitation exercise that was largely quite successful. No thrashings were suffered, two were administered (Mick McCarthy had actually struggled to beat Gibraltar). Mbappe and Griezmann were both kept scoreless. Kenny became the first ROI manager to register a goal against Greece, after three had failed to score against them (and those games were friendlies). We are still in UEFA Nations League B (something which damaged Stephen Kenny's stats / win percentage etc.) - with relegation play-offs now being introduced, the next manager will be doing well to keep us there.

      @rpirl Před 5 měsíci

      @ReanimatorsMutilations Tough talk, but you obviously never compared the opponents that Kenny and O'Neill have in common, and checked to see who had better results. Kenny (with a poorer squad) achieved better overall results against Scotland, Serbia and also the Nations League games against Wales. O'Neill got spanked in several competitive games, Kenny in none. Note that O'Neill was technically relegated from Nations League B. Kenny has kept us in it twice.

    • @rpirl
      @rpirl Před 5 měsíci

      @latergator915 I think the O'Neill era was better in every way than Trapattoni one, but O'Neill seems to have taken it kind of personally when Kenny said he wanted to change how Ireland play - took it as an aspersion being cast upon his own playing style.

      @Art-is-craft Před 6 měsíci

      @@Art-is-craft I know and theoretically that is a sensible approach. However by the same token you could say Kenny is cut from this exact cloth...held several jobs in Irish football including national youth teams. The quality of players we have right now is between poor and average and to be fair that's not Kennys fault however a more experienced manage would make better use of resources and get more results.

    I think Chris Hughton or David O'Leary would be great shouts for Ireland when they finally get rid of Kenny ... or even possibly Hughton as Manager & O'Leary as Assistant ... Bring the likes of Shay Given & Kevin Doyle onto the coaching staff. Ireland have a potential superstar on their hands with Evan Ferguson so if someone like Hughton can get the others around him preforming and identifying future Irish stars be they from Ireland or through heritage then there is no reason why they can't be on a level par with the likes of Scotland and Wales and thrive to be like England

    • @Art-is-craft

    The increasing popularity/quality of the premier league is starting to churn out players who might not be good enough for England but are qualified to play for the other home nations. Scotland has benefitted from this and I expect the ROI to eventually pick up some of these offcuts. In another era, the likes of Jack Grealish and Declan Rice might be pulling on the green jersey if it were not for the prestige that now goes with representing England. I credit Gareth Southgate with that. The Irish need to create the right environment to attract the waverers. Cleary Stephen Keeny and his 1914 mindset was not the right man for the job.
