I’ve heard so much about people saying “wuwa’s designs are bland, they’re repetitive, they’re soulless” but as an artist I can’t really view it the same way
I find that a lot of the repetitive-ness is more like a cultural design motif in Hualong, and the bland colors are there to enhance the saturated ones
Because in theory, you don’t want *everything* to be pretty. You’ll want some bad parts to highlight the good parts, sort of like the night sky; you want to have that dark background to contrast with the bright, burning stars
I’ve been so invested with the designs that I couldn’t stop myself from drawing characters; which is in a way, surprising since it’s so long since I last drew something
The way that every character has a simple but unique design makes drawing much easier; like how Mortefi wears a custom-made lab coat, or that YangYang has an open-hip pencil skirt design
I don’t feel pressured to draw every last detail, which makes the experience much better
All in all, I want to say that Wuwa’s designs are good to people who can look beyond that dark, inky abyss in the sky and see the twinkle of the stars. You see some lows, but you can see some highs as well 💖

OH MY GOD I FORGOT THE BEST PART!!!
Wuwa’s models have the clothing folds, body anatomy (i.e adam’s apple, shoulder blades, abs, collar bones) and imbedded into the model itself
If you look at Lingyang’s back you can see the muscle in his body despite being so small
Or you can look at Mortefi for his collar bone and adam’s apple
Or (looking at mortefi again) His clothes and layered bits all have the folds molded into his model
Which I found really interesting, because model typically want to have the least amount of polygons for better rendering purposes right? Yet Wuwa decides that they’ll make the models have these tiny details, for what purpose? Just to make the characters better imo
SO YEAH!! I love wuwa’s models and designs a lot………

Just hope they don't design more characters that looks closer to an actual prostitute like changli with how unnecessary and excessive their sex appeal are (explicit outfit + jiggling tits all over the place, seriously she's portrayed as elegant yet she dress like that? This!!! Their design isn’t bland or soulless at all!! Not everything needs to be bright colors all the time. They have a cohesive look that translates well across many characters that are meant to all come from the same area. Of course there’d be cultural trends in their clothing and color palettes. There’s still so much variation while keeping it together.

    • @TheRedRationalist
      @TheRedRationalist Před 21 dnem +4

You absolutely nailed it. Anyone who says the game isnt vibrant enough are the types who love everything to have super bright, highly saturated neon colours everywhere, when that approach to colouring makes things look like its mqde for children. If thats what you like, kool. But i love muted colours because - as you pointed out - contrast is extremely important.
It gives artists more room for creativity cuz their colour selection isnt limited and ultimately creates a much more mature and in some cases darker looks and tones, which i personally love.
It gives me peace of mind knowing other visual artists think the same way.

Gacha games are inherently problematic. However you can offset this with the right mentality. #1 resist GAMBA. You don’t need every character and you’re better off accepting that you wont get them all. Pulls are expensive and the games aren’t designed around outright buying them. #2 don’t fall into the silly F2P trap. It’s ok to buy the $5 monthly pass and even the $10 battle pass (sometimes). That is if you’re actually enjoying the game and playing it regularly. #3 it’s not meant to be no lifed or played full time all of the time. After a while you’ll just be doing account maintenance most days. But interesting events and new end game content will be added regularly (not on genshin though) so you will have period where you’re playing a decent amount as well. #4 don’t try to be a super meta whore and min max everything. But, plan your pulls accordingly and try to keep a mostly balanced cohesive account.

My routine is: do my daily quests / weekly missions, catch up on some stories when I fell like, explore a bit. Then there are some “end game” content that rotate every 2 weeks. I’d say Mihoyo/Hoyoverse is the main reason why gacha games have “the reputation”. What makes or breaks any game is the business practices they perform. Kuro games actually cares about their community, and i can tell they are at least somewhat passionate about their game. They don’t treat their players like breathing wallets. WuWa is truly a gem of a gacha game.

I'm not trying to be a Hoyo "White Knight", but hear me out.
I've spent $1,500 max in the past 4 years for Genshin. I got literally every characters I want, some of their constellation, and their signature weapons. I have C4 Neuvillette, C4 Nahida, C2 Furina, C2 Raiden, C2 Klee (because I love her not because she's meta), Arlecchino, Kazuha, Yelan, Hu Tao, Xiao, Zhongli, Yae Miko, Kokomi, Ayaka, Venti, Ganyu, Wanderer, and Tartaglia (accidental as I was trying to roll on standard banner).
I have most of their signature weapons except Arlecchino (was saving up for Furina rerun), Zhongli (don't need), Kokomi (bad weapon), Venti (rarely used him), Wanderer (only for exploration), and Tartaglia (don't need as he's accidental).
As you can see, my line up is pretty premium. I can clear every end game content with ease, and my constellated characters definitely will be able to carry me for much longer.
Genshin's gacha isn't predatory. I spent less than $400/year and gotten way more than I need. Imagine spending $400 on Fate Grand Order per banner and getting nothing, or Summoner's Wars banners where some people spent thousands to get what they wanted.
All I can tell is people who dunked on Genshin or miHoYo in general are new into Gacha mobile games world.

It’s also to see what’s in the game, when I watch a review I look at the things they mention, not the way they feel about it. I’m also a fan of the gacha games when the gacha is good. Some gacha games are so good you can experience almost everything without spending a lot like snowbreak for example. I’m able to buy skins for a good price, but other than that I’m practically free to play with almost every character in the game. Wuthering waves has a similar thing so far with being able to buy constellations over time, but it’s no where near as good as snow breaks but it’s still pretty alright.

Been playing video games since my childhood and I've discovered what gacha games were around 2016 with the first anniversary of Dragon Ball Dokkan Battle, I still remember how my friend got me into the game while I was trolling about it being a bubble popper. Of course once in game I was playing a game with content being added regularly in a universe I love so I've stuck with it till few months ago. My approach with gacha games through these years has always been influenced by my own life, since I was a kid, growing in a low/middle money income family. My parents teached me the value of money and that in life I'll never have everything I want. So not falling into the predatory system of gachas was not so hard for me, I played many of them starting with Dokkan and going through Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Bleach Brave Souls, Granblue Fantasy, Fire Emblem heroes etc... I always tried to stick to a golden rule which is "not more than 3 at the same time" cause if you throw yourself into so many you just end up having no time for yourself and it's pretty much an addiction at that point.
Overall the live services games ended up bringing pros and cons to the industry, the worst one being the value of content (characters, weapons or whatever you summon for) for the consumer. The average price for a multi summon in gachas is roughly 27$ and the bigger the packs the lower the price per multi goes. But it doesn't change that in these games you need (if you're not lucky) hundreds of dollars to get one character. While some indie games cost less than a single multi price for a full experience.
Nowadays I play Genshin and WuWa and I've been spending very lightly on both games with the equivalent of Monthly subscriptions (5$ +10 for BP). Which can be compared to the way you would approach a MMO game to just play it.
The message you give in this video is really good and something people should understand and try out more. Build their own opinion. No one should ever lock themselves off something they wanna try out. In the worst case, they'll dislike it and move on. Everyone has a different opinion on everything. It's not rare that I came up with "controversial opinions" on games while liking some that were not well scored like Pokemon Colosseum or of course not enjoying games that are incredibly appreciated. As people often forget, games are supposed to bring you good feelings through art, if you're not enjoying and don't feel like sticking with something, it's not big of a deal you'll find one that is better next time.
Anyway keep the chill vibe, continue to enjoy whatever you like and don't let anyone disrespect you for that !

The biggest thing to be prepared for in Wuwa and Genshin is patience. These games do not need to be sprints. You don't need to rush anything, those who rush finish content a few days after release, max their characters fast will then complain there is nothing to do and the game is easy. These games slow drip content because their characters have limited time sales. Both Genshin and wuwa give you tons of in game currency through chests, events and in game activities so if one is patient you can freely save up enough currency to get the characters you want but it takes patience. What these games rely on is fomo. You pull out the CC cause your afraid your going to miss this character and/or their secret weapon. In Genshin (wuwa is to new to know this yet) most characters become available about twice a year. Some longer. Also these games do not release Mega content evey patch. Genshin does 8 patches a year. Of those 8 half introduce new areas or story. The other half are events and filler. I imagine Wuwa will be similar thus far they are copying Genshins format to a T with some tweaks. They are both fun games but different enough they can be played at the sametime. Both have areas where they are better than the other. But both games are worth checking out.

a game that i like that people typically dont like is actually roblox, specifically a game called arcane odyssey, its an open world story based rpg based around like pirates and navy and magic and shit and at the start of the game you pick a magic and as you progress you earn stat points which you can allocate into different stats and whatever stat you put stat points in eventually towards the end of the game you "awaken" and the ghame gets your stat points and does a calculation based on how much you put into each stat and then it gives you a really cool ability based on that, for example if you do half of your stats into magic and and half into weapon you get to coat your weapons with your magic (so you can have like a blade covered in fire) and theres so many other stat builds that it makes every build feel really unique and in general i had a blast playing it (i have like 700-800 hrs of playtime)

RIP Brother. Ive been playing genshin for almost 3 years now. I wouldnt suggest this game to anyone.
The devs treat the players like disposable piggybanks without any ounce of respect for the players time and commitment to the game.
Genshins story is good at a later stage, combat is okey, quality of life is horrible compared to most gacha games on the market (Even after 4 years they still didnt add a skip button, which is a basic QOLife in most gacha games, a lot of the dialog is in text with no sound for a lot of the content, you can imagine the rough experience for people who dont like story)
You can give it a try if you really want to teste the poison, but Don't sink money into genshin before you are absolutely sure you actually like the game.

@@jaytimetalkgamesthat is true. Yes. It’s because WuWa gives the open world Gacha game genre a new feel. The movement is very smooth and fluid, the combat is very engaging and punishing in the best way, and the devs listen. Genshin feels super bland and outdated. The combat is just matching the right colors and spamming 2 buttons on your characters, the weapon banner is a scam, everything feels sluggish..It makes people realise how bad it actually is. Genshin players got too used to the slop they were getting. Probably because they hoped it would get better but it never did

@@jaytimetalkgames yeah, Wuthering waves overall experience is much better then genshin.
      Wuthering has,
Better combat (the soulslike gameplay is my favorite part of this game),
Better open world exploration, it feels like night and day to genshin,
Cant believe I have to compare this, Wuthering actually has a skip for optional content, which genshin doesn't have even after 4 years of the game being out.
I had to spend 2-6 hours of my life every time a big event happened in genshin just to SKIP the story i didnt care about. the other events that happen all the time also has 10-30 minit non voice acted dialog I had to skip through.
This is the worst part of genshin, and clearly shows how little the devs care about the players time.
There are more stuff that wuthering does better that ganshin but this comment is big enough already.
Im enjoying my time with wuthering. I hope i can one day quit genshin, Its honestly sad to see a game i once loved becoming such a bitter experience for me.
You can try genshin if you really want to, its a good free to play game honestly, but before you put any money into the game, understand the deves do not care even a little bit about their players time and you are just another piggybank for them to smash.
I guess i can say something cool before ending this comment to look cool or something,

@@jaytimetalkgames I have been playing genshin for 1341 days (yes there's a counter on how many days have you been logged in), and I can assure you, that Wuthering Waves is way better than Genshin. At least if you like the immersive feeling of playing Elden Ring / Dark Soul. Genshin is more beginner friendly to what you would call a casual gamer compared to Wuthering Waves, but the combat mechanics, making dodge actually more meaningful than in Genshin where you can close out any damage you took with healing / shield, also flashy animation is what makes Wuthering Waves stays above Genshin Impact imho.
I would say, if you ever tried to play Genshin, after getting a taste of Wuthering Waves, I think most people would be turned off by how clunky Genshin Impact system has. For example: your stamina bar is actually drained even when you're not in a combat, and you will definitely be running around the world when you just started, and you will be walking a lot more than you realize you were. (It's never a problem before Wuthering Waves is a thing) And this is only 1 out of many comparison out there.
But I'd suggest you to at least try it if you're really curious about Genshin Impact.
I do still playing Genshin only for the story and music, and I'd already invested heavily on this game, it'd be a shame to just stop playing all of the sudden 😂
It's just as simple as, all of the investment will now be moved to Wuthering Waves instead.

I played my fair share of gacha games over the years, because I'm broke and I could get enjoyment out of mediocre games for a few days/week, I played many garbage ones, many bad ones, but also some decent and even great ones.
Nowaday I only play a few ones as my standard raised up over time, there's just so many things that a lots of gacha do that I can't stand anymore.
I tried Wuthering Waves without much convictions TBH since I kinda got burned up on all the open world game that released this past decade, but since I play Punishing Gray Ravens, the studio's previous game, I gave it a try because I know at least the combat would be satisfying, and I'm not disapointed, tho maybe a bit simplier compared to PGR.
The one that I sticked the longest with and still play to this day (4 and half years now), and the one that raised my standards the most, is Arknights, a gacha tower deffense that lean more toward the strategy game, wich I know, is deffinitly not to everyone's taste, but for thoses who love that kind of stuff it's a great game.
It's also IMO one of the rare game that can somehow benefit from being a gacha if you have the right mentality, precisely because of its strategic nature, since you can use up to 12 characters in a stage, and not everyone's roster will be exactly the same, it make the satisfaction of clearing a difficult stage that much stronger, especialy when you use the weaker units, and it birthed a huge "self imposed challenge" community.

Late to the party but heres my long winded take.
The issues that gatcha games have stems from 2 main things. First, being a free to play live service game, the monetization has no upper limit. A standsrd $60 game gives you all of its content for the list price and thats it. Maybe youll get dlc you can tack on or maybe you wont. A live service game has to constantly add content to keep players coming back so theres always something new that you could potentially spend money on.
This leads jnto the second issue, gatcha gets its name from the gambling aspect. As we all know there are people who are very susceptible to the addictive properties of gambling. And there are 100% many companies that would exploit this to make more money. Since theres no upper limit to how much you can spend one could easily find themselves spending way more than necessary or healthy.
While genshin has many issues it was the first big gatcha to see real mainstream success for good reason. A lot of care and effort went into its design and story, it knows ots audience well, andnit doesnt push it's monetization in your face and try to nickel and dime you, and its pity system (which mitigates the gambling by creating an artificial bpoint where you are guaranteed to get the item you want) has become the standard for games of the genre although it still could stand to be much more generous.
There are many gatcha games that are just cash grabs attempting to exploit the 2 conditions i mentioned above. In thee end the difference between a good and bad gatcha game is how much effort goes into making a good core game that players will want to support vs how much effort goes into trying to compel players to spend money.
Wuthering waves is Kuro Games' second game to show they are very much in the camp of the former and not the latter.

Don't spend for pulling the gacha itself, you may spend for Battlepasses, Skins, Monthly Subscriptions BUT NEVER EVER spend for pulls unless you have guaranteed pulls and only need 10-20 pulls left until pity. ex: when you already lost 50/50 in this game.

tbf, you can play Genshin without spending any money, unless you're the type who wants all the characters but luckily, I dislike a lot of the characters on Genshin so I was able to save up free gems on the ones that I do like and was able to play Genshin Free to Play for a couple of years but speaking of Wuthering Waves, in my opinion, it's basically just a better version of Genshin, but seeing as this is your first gacha, as long as you keep the right mentality and avoid giving into the "fear of missing out" that all Gacha games are built upon, then you can play and enjoy Gacha games just fine, just remember that at some point, stamina systems like Wuwa's stamina system called waveplate or Resin for genshin is designed to limit your progression at a certain speed that can be alleviate by spending money, but as long as you don't want to speed run and want to max out your characters and grind non-stop like an MMO then the stamina system shouldn't be much of a hindrance.
EDIT: you mentioned wanting to try Genshin after Wuwa, just as a heads up, I used to play Genshin but after experiencing Wuwa, It made traversal in Genshin feel sluggish and out of date, since in essence, Wuwa basically saw what Genshin lacked and needed changing, then did it on their own game. though many people might not like me for comparing Genshin and Wuwa, but it think it's fair to make a comparison, it's basically like comparing COD and Battlefield back in the day, people fought over those games. though, i'm not gonna stop you from trying genshin, who knows maybe you'd like it better, since Genshin's combat is a lot more casual and easy, the art style is more colorful and the characters more "young looking" so it depends on the person's taste which one they'd like better at least in those 2 aspects.
EDIT 2: was watching your video about being held hostage by games, a thought came into my mind, there's a system in gacha games you have to be aware of, there's daily commissions, daily quests etc. that's design to keep players playing every day and build loyalty towards that game by enticing them with limited currencies, Primogems for Genshin and Astrite for Wuwa, they're currencies used to acquire characters so they are quite precious, both Genshin and Wuwa has them, in fact most if not all Gacha games have that daily quest system, while at first you may feel "FOMO"ed by not doing those quests everyday, in the long term, they can hurt your enjoyment of the game, at least for me it did. I played Genshin a few days after it launched and pretty much played it daily for a year but after that time, needing to login daily just to do the daily quests was really hurting my enjoyment with the game but I still kept at it despite not liking it (daily quests), since i thought to myself "those primogems are a limited currency, i can't lose out" but I realized, i'm just hurting myself and those 60 primogems i earn is not worth if I end up not enjoying the entirety of the game because of it, so just keep in mind, don't feel forced to do your daily quests or commissions when you start feeling like it's holding your hostage and it'll just make your feel burned out from the game faster.

Most character are lock in a gacha mechanic thats why it is called gacha game thats the main take away of the negative reputation but most gacha now adays are really improve before most gacha games are like chibi character turn based game mostly but now nearly all of it especially the anticipated gacha are 3D modeled games semi-world and in WUWA case Open World its quite a new development of era on gacha games to become like this it has a higher development
I hope you enjoy playing the game
Advice take i can give is to not rush everything dont let the meta kill your fun on the game and also don't overly go and interact on any gacha community because they can go overly toxic and biased against said games
Especially WuWa have alot biases against it from alot of gacha players because it directly compete against Genshin which have alot of very toxic and heavily biased fan they can overly criticized the game over a small stuff competing against said side by side(i mean i can understand why they compete it because they have the same genre of game but can they not go toxic about it because said have better thing than the other one)
Yeah Gacha game has also a problem of toxicity in the community since gacha mostly PVE they go PVP on the community hahah😆
Gladly you are enjoying the game
