I build and sell th400s with transbrakes, for 2800.00, with more good parts installed than an FTI at same price. Will hold over 1600 horse. I have a TBSS customer hitting 1.50 60 foots, with one, on a 150 shot and a set of Headflowinc ported heads. TBSS is 4600lbs. He's only making 700 on 150 shot right now.

Brother I appreciate it. I’m actually currently emailing back and forth with both FTI and Hugh’s trying to work out an “arrangement”. I’m really leaning toward FTI though, $2600 is pretty damn good, especially since it comes with an ultrabell and their billet transbrake VB. It just sucks I don’t have a core. I’ve seriously just thought about buying one and building it myself but the truth is I’m probably gonna have to finance whatever transmission I buy and I don’t have the money or time to gather up the small parts and do it myself cause I don’t want the car sitting for long and I’m working 12+ hours a day right now. I could get a TCI trans through Poorman Motorsports at cost, but I’ve read a lot of bad reviews on them and I do y want something solid that I don’t have to fuck with all the time. I’ve been working with junk all my life and I’m trying to gradually step up my game with this car. Lol.
@@BadLuckGarageOk. Do they use a billet intermediate shaft, case saver, and fully rollerize the trans, also? I use an ATI billet 1-2 transbrake 600.00+ alone, in mine.

No they definitely don’t use that valvebody or a billet intermediate! 😳 So that’s the brake that allows 2nd gear leave, right? That might come in handy for sure! Especially at EMR!
Hit up Monster Transmission or Circle D and get a converter from one of them if you need a good one

@@Wilson_Racing Yea this video was from back in July. Not sure which one it was but the problem ended up being the front pump, not the converter. Cars been 5s at this point on only around 16lbs. 😉

@@funfun8095 I haven’t even pulled it out yet. The general consensus is I broke the torque converter, we know the pump is still working yet it has zero gears. The new PTC converter will be here at the end of July.
I’ll go through the transmission and make sure it’s 100%
@@BadLuckGarage No, he did. I watched him on his channel. He ported some heads for me for my customers TBSS. That I built the tranny for. 1.50 60s so far, at 4600lbs. Hope to hit 1.4s this weekend. Going to a 200 shot and had to screw his slicks. Were spinning on rims with 1.50 60s.

i was considering the same transmission. 400 is good. i have a built 4L60 in mine. ideal transmission is a Rossler 4L80. but if you want to talk transmissions, you can get a hold of me.
i have the Terminator X Max. and it does that without stepping to the dominator.
Other than the trans control, a terminator x would be a downgrade from the HP I’m currently running brother. If I was going to spend built and transbrake 4L80 money, I’d definitely pay the extra grand for a dominator over a terminator x-max and retain the better features of the HP while also gaining dual wideband ability and a ton of extra I/Os. 👍
@@BadLuckGarage yeah that’s true, I don’t have a lot of use for the extra I/o s yet, so I don’t have any reason to upgrade lol. Not yet anyways lol
What’s your fuel pressure while going down the track? Mines 43 psi at idle and going down the track

yeah man that duty cycle being weird is why i went to a co2 boost control setup.. 1000 times better and yeah i ran a 6.6 at 108 with a 1.6 60ft

Brother I don’t plan to ever gut this car. Eventually I will get a cage and racing seats. But I plan to leave the rest to fit into more street car classes. So the seats and seat belts will go, but everything else will stay.

if the hot rod barn is still in knoxville on Broadway , they have some trans they build that will hold up and the price wont break the bank I have tried them all, the 350's wont take a bunch of power, the 400's are heavy and costly to build, the best and strongest is the power glide and you can get one built with a turbo 350 spline so you can use your torque converter and driveshaft

Yep, and they all want about the same price as FTI to build a comparable tran but dont have half the reputation FTI does.

Yep, Its all fun and cheap if you wanna keep using junk and constantly working on shit, but when you want to build something nice it starts getting expensive quick.

I told you long ago that that 350 turbo wouldnt cut it
I said it wasn't going to last before I even put it in. But that was 2 years ago so I'm pretty happy with it for being free.
Turbo 350 will work fine built correctly , transbrake and all.
Cheap converters will not work, you’ll fold the fins over in the converter , to much heat.
Call Kenny at ptc and tell him what your doing, spend 1000 on a converter and you’ll be good .
Tranny needs very good parts and you’ll be good
Derek P, This converter actually works great. The issue was with the th350. More specifically the worn out pump not supplying enough pressure to the converter as I explained in the video. I would highly recommend going to a th400 or Glide once you get over the 600-700whp mark. Even built th350s don’t like to live long behind that much power in a 3400lb+ car especially. As you can see from the newer videos, this Jegs XHD converter is working great behind the new th400 in this car. No need to spend a grand in a converter until your into the 4 digit hp area unless you just like spending money.

my stock case transbrake th400 as under $1000 last year, FTI level 4-$3k / DIY depending on parts $1200 - $2500 e.a $1700 is putting you in level 4 territory, it aint hard at all, you'd have good content to put out and never have to pay a'guy to fix it if something happens. buying ones way into racing is easier but anyone can take the easy way, i started watching because it was relatable to the regular guy, aint no way in hell a regular guy drop'n 3k into a trans in Bidens economy
LMAO, I am a regular guy with a regular house payment, regular car payment, regular bills, and a job that works me 60+ hours a week in the summer to pay for all that. And while I dont have $3000 for a transmission or even $1200-$2500 to build one myself, what I do have thanks to that regular 60 hour a week job is $120 a month to do paypal financing on one ready to go without putting a bunch of cash out at one time. You know, regular guy who keeps his credit good stuff.😉

Get a converter from PTC, jegs,bm converters are not going to work for what your doing
This videos almost a year old brother. Check out the newer content. And this wasn’t a B&M converter. We had replace that the video before this I actually said that we were testing the new converter in the first 60 seconds of this video Lol We’re on a totally different transmission and converter and running 5s now. Turns out the issue was the th350 trans the entire time. This same converter in the new th400 is golden.
Hard to find good videos and builds on the 3rd gen. I had a full blown race car 85 sbc with 98mm. Ran mid fours. Sold it , building a stock 88, with my old race engine and rear mount turbo , street track car, keeping AC and interior , more fun for the family to enjoy.
Full BMR suspension in the rear, kmember coming soon, engine is about done.

Yea as I’ve said repeatedly in the videos. I have no plans to gut this car or even put race seats in. It’s a cruiser all the way and actually has very good street manors other than the fender exits. No AC but heat and everything else works as it should. Even thinking about adding a subwoofer to fill out the stereo sound a little better.

I’m going to be ordering the new crossmember from UMI Friday but I still haven’t made a decision on where the transmission is going to come from yet. I’ve been back and forth in my head about just throwing one together myself but I just don’t have the time to mess with it the way my job is right now and I don’t want the car sitting till fall so I’m gonna be ready to buy by next week whether I have to borrow the money or do PayPal finance. 👍
