Why Miami’s Street Racers Are Turning to Legal Raceways

- Street racing has long been popular in Miami with a variety of groups, some who gather at undisclosed locations off U.S. Highway 27 and others who opt for conspicuous city landmarks. However, the rise in fatal accidents and the risk of getting caught has driven some people to get off the streets and onto the track.
VICE travels to Miami to take a look inside the illegal street racing scene and the legal alternatives some drivers are turning to.

Guy at drag race: some people like extreme fishing
Me: *confused brain noises*
Okay this is going to be kind of long but bear with me,
the Miami / South Florida street scene is a very different reality than what is portrayed in this video. The video covers a piece of it, the want to move racers over to the track, but the reality is that the scene is extremely dynamic. First off, street racing is big, but not so much Miami, at least not for money. Most weekends, they are warehouse takeovers where hundreds of cars do donuts and drift, not so much speed. Also, its not so much a "running from the cops" environment, we are usually just told to leave and we do so. Secondly, the racing isnt all 100k cars, but a massive mix of "built" and "bought" cars. Theres something for everyone.
You guys hired an Actor for this lol. Jerry Ascione AKA the dude with the long hair, is a small time actor look him up. He's not a former street racer as pro-claimed by Vice.
TheDjSarkastik I think they used actors to hide the real people’s identities
TheDjSarkastik he has a 1000hp IS300, he may be an actor but he’s definitely in the car scene.
@@themostamazingblaine being in the car scene and being a street racer are two different things. guaranteed this dude has never been on Okee before or after this vice video.
That's very selective research. He's hes an actor buthis ImdB credits him with only seven acting gigs, which is atrocious, but he is also listed as an uncredited stunt driver in casino royale, and in his trivia it says that he has one of the worst driving records in miami and was to driving school 12 times. This video shows the track and the “rich kid” meet ups in Miami. Half of what was shown was barley what the street racing and car scene in Miami is like.
I remember, I'm an old woman, when street racing was made up of or black and brown some white men that worked minimum wage jobs and saved up their money to go buy a Honda and Frankenstein the s*** out of it. They didn't collect Ferraris or live in mansions. They live in some of the most unforgiving parts of the United States. But they had a special talent 4 turning the ordinary into extraordinary. And this video. The kind of elitist to me. It didn't have that real street car racing feel to it. And I'm not really impress. But it was pretty to look at.
Sounds like you know a lot
You're not THAT old if your peers were racing HOndas.
This guy reminds me of Alan from the Hangover films LMAO
Antiii thank you
That's funny
I love how no one has addressed the issue with track racing. 1. You sign a release / waiver - this is so you can't sue the track, file an insurance claim, etc. So let's say you put it into the wall or worse, the guy next to you looses control and takes you both out, totaling your car and worse your in bad shape and need a hospital and surgery. Well remember that form? Your insurance is going to DENY your claim, for personal and vehicular coverage. So you will get stuck with a huge medical bill from the hospital, you will also have a wrecked car which you are responsible for fixing (Out of your pocket) and the tow truck company is going to need payment which was not covered by insurance either. Let's say you were drag racing on a public highway, you also were high on heroine and had open bottles of liqour in the backseat you were drinking from. If you were to wreck your car into a parked police cruiser, your insurance would cover the repairs of your vehicle, the rental for a enterprise vehicle, your medical expenses, and they might even replace your liquor which was damaged and or lost in the accident as well. (yes your rates will increase, yes you may goto jail, but you didn't have to pay 💰 out of pocket, declare bankruptcy, or commit suicide to get out from under a mountain of debt (vehicular loan and medical expenses) along with the cost of a new or repaired police cruiser. Kinda fucked up but street racing at the track is kinda dangerous and risky. Like really risky.
I like how the guy talks like "if you don't want the effect don't be part of the cause". When they going speeds like that on public roads, as a bystander you're not given a choice. One of them comes at you at that speed, you're gone also.
Aside from the Street Warriors coverage this isn't really accurate...

There are a ton of crews in South Florida that have the crazy illegal meets with all of the "cool" stuff -- burnouts, donuts, street racing, 2-stepping, constant hooning, etc. -- they have large followings and even block off intersections and busy highways just to have the road for themselves to do stupid shit. Car clubs like mine just avoid those clubs and we're trying to promote a positive car community culture. A lot of people down here in Miami love their cars and don't want heavy car restrictions like in California. See, in my club, we're a family. We help each other out, we share our passion for cars no matter what you drive. Built or bought? Not a problem! We have an interest and passion for cars but we respect the community so we like to do things legally. For our Bi-monthly meets ( @CorsaClubAmerica on IG), we talk with the location and have permission to be there. We don't do burnouts, donuts, or any crazy dumb shit. We let out all the crazy antics when we go to Fast Lane Fridays at the Homestead Miami Speedway. We get together as a family and have BBQs at the park, collect backpacks to give them away to families in need, etc. We try and give back to the community and partner up with like-minded clubs to push this positive car community era where anyone is welcome no matter what you drive, as long as you respect the community. Hopefully, we can start a new era of positive car club culture, where you don't get shunned if you choose to leave a club, switch clubs, not street race, etc. We're here to earn respect from the community while still having a good time.
When I get my dream car (years away) and I visit Florida, I’d like to see this.
