Anyone else ever air guitar with a tripod? Just me? How about baseball... walking staff? Rifle? Pole vault? I’ll stop. ;)
Peter McKinnon Omg i thought i was alone 😂
The air?
Peter McKinnon I like my Manfrotto BeFree Compact Travel Carbon Fiber Tripod. Small, tall, latches and about 2 pounds.
How about air guitar with an invisible guitar 😁
Peter McKinnon definitely have done the baseball swing with with my Joby
I dare you to use Mozart as background music in your next video.
You should probably know that your music has been public domain for a while now. So even if Mckinnon would promote you, you wouldn't get a dime.
Another question: where did you find the fountain of youth? I wont tell anyone.
You also might want to update your name to fit the 21st century music scene. I like Lil Mozart

W.A.M would be also acceptable among the youngsters.
Yes... You have my vote.

Oh, Peter.
I never expected a "That's what she said" joke from you, man.
Totally took me off guard hahahahaha
same!!
Yeaaah ahahahaha
9:34
Same hahahahha
I'm a female and make that joke in my head 20 times for the one time I say it out loud.
It's always funny. Always.
"That's what she said" joke is the best part of this video😁
Quick tip: You can loosen all the locking sleeves of the Gitzo by twisting all of them at one go. Then it'll be much faster to deploy!
6:21 - You open the locks on the Gitzo tripod the same way and I am pretty sure you know that, Peter
7:22 - Seeing how the whole center column moves downwards because you gently touch your bag makes me worried about the whole center column twist lock
And it cannot hold much payload
Thats what I thought as well, cant see any game changing feature...
Christian Grundner The price? Haha
@@RohitNaik It can hold 33 Lbs
He didn't tho, at 2:26 you can clearly see him pulling and rotating each individual lock which isn't as effective as the lever system on the Peak Design.
Pete sliding around on an office chair wielding a tripod shouting "FOCUS!" is the best thing I've seen all week. 😂
Peak design is known for making products that just make sense. Nothing too complicated, just pure performance, and i love it!
“That’s what she said” that caught me off guard Peter 😂😂
7:58 Peter forgot to say "that's what he said"
This video looks different aesthetically.. and not in a good way ?!? Blown out window or different colour? something that just looks off ?
The plant to his left.
He is at Matti's desk and the window is blown out.
yes it's not sharp either, i'm a bit disapointed to be honest by the quality of the video
For Gitzo you can unlock all rings in one grab too and you don’t need much turns, just a half would unlock all sections smoothly. So it’s as fast as lever latches, and the rings won’t bite like levers. It’s the size making PD shine here. It’s like the first iPhone revolution to the phone market, now all brands need to rethink their travel tripod designs too, especially Gitzo at higher price.
When travel, make sure that your flight allow you take allen key, mine was taken by the auxiliary police recently.

It happened with me as well once
That's f*cking ridiculous. There's no limit to the surprises those people have in store.
600 dollars tripod , My camera is 350 Dollars. LOL
thats the carbon fiber, comparable one by other brands cost the same
But my phone cost more!! I just realized that I spent way more for my phone than my camera. Hmmm.
@@vegasrenie i think that this tripod really is for those who do lots of traveling, but better pay once 600 and it's good forever rather then having to buy a new one every year

Great review Mr. M, love the hidden phone attachment.
Shouldn't the most important aspect of a tripod be stability?Didn't see that covered.Looks awful spindly to me.
Spot on. This in essence is a tripod made for Smartphone generation. I am saying this with absolute authority after having fiddled with it in person. Beautiful design, yes, but productivity wise it is a complete ZERO
Thats so obvious that i didnt feel the need of talking about it
@@SailingLaVagabonde Not in a travel tripod? Are you nuts?
All triods are stable
Umm pete. The peak design carbon fibre tripod is almost 1k cdn. It’s awesome sure. But I rather get a 3 legged thing tbh
I don't even have equipment, but because of you I'm starting to grow passionate about photography and videography and I can't wait to buy my first camera and start taking shots.
Tripods make me so frustrated with the same non space efficient design. Glad to see more creativity from the peak design team. Definitely preordered.
Andy Miller yes, it’s been bugging me to! Backed without second thought, and its payload is as good as Manfroto though below Gitzo (and Gitzo in a hefty price).
I love Gitzo, basically like lifetime support and maintenance, well worth the money actually. No one beat their payload/weight efficiency...
But this PD design is just outsmarting everything else!
Love peak design! Got their everyday backpack and am super amazed by all their thinking that they put into the products.
Great overview. I'd love to get my hands on one of these. I have a handful of other Peak Design products and they're all well designed and look good. But... BUT-the camera will not "always be level" when the head is down, UNLESS the tripod is level to begin with. As a real estate photographer I'm always very aware of how not-level every floor seems to be, let alone the great outdoors.
You known the tripod has a built in level right? & Sony have a built in camera feature like most to show younthat it's level..
Seriously, Peter Mckinnon, you looked like a tripod newbie using the Gitzo. That's not how you extend a Gitzo.
How you think a consumer would treat the tripod
How do you extend a Gitzo?
he had to justify the money he must supposedly have gotten paid to pimp this tripod.
For $600
No Thank you.
The ones being used in Hollywood are starting at $8000 dollars so $600 isn't too bad!

I mean, that tripod looks sweet and all, but the best part of this video was the bloopers. Hilarious! 😂

An exclusive? Hmmm... 🤔 🤔 Exclusive to all photo/video youtubers?
nightryder21 I feel like I’m watching QVC more and more..
And they all posted their "reviews" at the same time today.
@@jinxterpinxter That's how all early first look marketing campaigns work... They ship the products out CZcamsrs, give them some time to check the product and give them an upload date so the product can get exposure and build hype. That's the most effective way to get maximum awareness for a product.
@@AyechinoProd You cant call a product "the best tripod" in a "review" when you clearly got paid to promote it.
@@jinxterpinxter Why not? I know your point but with that line of reasoning. Every product review from anyone who in some form gets paid rather from views, likes or hits is questionable.
lol Love the Lord Of The Rings reference. Ha Ha Ha That's what she said!!!!!! Tripod Rifle!!!
I like the green touch in the background!
I share your love about good tripods.
For years I had been buying cheap tripods and ended up not using them much because they were clunky.
I was travelling overseas and had an idea for a selfie I wanted to take in Paris and needed a tripod . I was about to buy yet another cheap tripod and throw it out after the shot but decided to pay about double the price of a cheap tripod and bought a cheaper manfrotto tripod.
It turns out to be one of the best photography buys I’ve made.
What I Luv about it is it’s trigger locking mechanism on the ball head. It’s so simple to set up and adjust a shot.
Whilst mine was designed for smaller cameras and wouldn’t suit Peters needs ( his cameras are so much bigger/heavier than mine) I’m still happy with it. However if I was in peter’s league I could see the need for giving serious thought to the tripod featured in this video.
$0.02
Nice but Tony Northrups review has some pretty interesting downsides pointed out. This here is just HOOH ITS SO GOOD
its just a plain advert for this stupid 600$ tripod. Tony points out all the downsides too.
@@RM-hy4so Exactly, all these videos really feel like poor infomercials. Its a shame really.
That's because he isn't sponsor by Peak Design. He is free to stay objective without repurcusion from his sponsor
Great vid thx. BUT because of the price and the quality I would never recomend this tripod to a professional or amateur
If you were a professional, you'd know 500 for a carbon fibre tripod is about right. Take a look at Gitzo, or really right stuff, and you'll see why. Now there are second-rate, abliet decent tripod manufacturers like Benro, Induro, Sirui but they honestly don't hold water when compared to Gitzo or RRS.
For travel size support I use the Manfrotto Befree Live tripod that comes with a video fluid head that can be leveled on a ball. The plate is the same width standard as used with other popular Manfrotto video heads like the 504HD, which is important for my workflow. It works perfectly for my purposes, and only costs $240. And for still photography or fixed angle video I use the Manfrotto Compact Action Aluminum Tripod. Its head is easy to use and very quick to set up, and the whole thing is only $65. So you could have both of these great tripods for less money than the cheaper version of this PD tripod that doesn't even have a video head. The design is very slick and functional though, that's very true. I'm all set and happy with my gear though, but this is good to know.
600 USD for anyone asking. Didn’t make it through the entire video because I’m at work so not sure if it was mentioned
you know you can unscrew all the legs on the gitzo at the same time too 👀😮
I thought he was being overly dramatic in that part.
Upload a video and let me know, would love to see that.
Peak design is the best camera accessories company period ! Even if their products are expensive, thess are worth investments !
Sorry for the fanboy comment...
Eric RAUZY not a fan boy, you just experience the most quality company as I do, I can’t resist keep buying.
The only thing I switched away from PD is only from the Capture system changed to Spider system, not because of quality, just because of use cases and design. I still own their all other product ranges!
Agreed. I am in San Francisco and I love going to their store. Their camera strap is awesome.
This tripod is so well developed!! Is a traveller´s dream come true! now you will not have any excuse to travel with your tripod!
I agree for other aspect except the leg mechanism. I think it's more the choice of each person. I personally prefer the twist mechanism
This tripod VS the three-legged thing? which one would you recommend?
To be fair, the head is NOT going to be level when collapsed unless you have levelled the feet or have a perfectly level surface. You're over-selling it a bit my man.
Have you used it?
yep and while we are talking about overselling, rotary clamps can also be loosened all at the same time so the comparison on assembly time was rather misleading. I do prefer lever clamps but I don't find much difference in assembly time between my manfrotto tripods and my 3-legged thing one.
This is a quality comment 😏
Exactly; I shoot mainly landscape and rarely set up on level ground, so for me I'd still be leveling everything with the PD. Also, I have a Gitzo Traveler and a cheaper knockoff backup, I never untwist one section of a leg at a time, I untwist all sections of a leg at once easily. I'm also concerned about vibration from wind with the PD's thin center column, and its holding strength as at 7:18+ when he moves the tripod with his bag on the hook you see it slip down twice. Hopefully that's only because he didn't fully secure it or something that gets addressed before full production.
All that being said, there's a lot to like with this tripod and I plan on at least checking it out as mine has endured a lot of abuse over the years and I'm looking to replace it soon.
This tripod is a thing of beauty, great design, lovely build quality and an absolute pleasure to use.
ive been waiting so long for this upload ive been checking for the pass 5 days to see if you have uploaded
Just gave a Like because of the „That‘s what she said“😂
That intro music has become just as iconic as the Game of Thrones title sequence for me 🙏
Peak Design is so thoughtful in their design, every Peak product I have I love. I saw another YTer talking this product up and was impressed. You solidified my thoughts and really like when you point out what you like and don't like and compare. The ball head is miles ahead of anyone, not just the competition. Tripod design reminds me of the Sachtler Flowtech 75 MS Carbon Fiber Tripod. Both designs are groundbreaking.
I love these bloopers!!!!
“Do I enjoy using this?”
Pete as Marie Kondo in camera world.
No need for Allen key! replace the existing plate screw with an $11 D-ring screw. (Nice tip from Tony Northrup).
You got my attention with the LOTR intro! Thanks for making this videos!
I haven’t held it yet but I believe that is the best travel tripod today mainly for its form factor. Even so, the rolls royce of travel tripods is still the Gitzo. The PeakDesign travel tripod is like the Lexus or the Tesla, and the Gitzo is still the rolls royce.
Wait who's helping you make these again?! Who's making you laugh?! Can I be hired just to make you laugh and not make this easy on you?! haha such good bloopers!
Thanks for the video Pete! Might consider backing this product!
Some company is probably going to make a compatible plate with a lever or screw.
Hopefully...
Love the sound when rewinding at 1:49
Saw this tripod during the week, it alerted on Kickstarter. Definitely thinking about getting in on it, as it's SO cool, especially in carbon.
Great intro 😂

I know
Everyone: its not the gear that makes you better
Peter: I hoped this 1000$ Tripod will make my photos better, but it failed.
**surprised Pikachu**
Thanks, Peter, for a great review! I’m waiting for my carbon fiber version to arrive tomorrow. I can’t wait! 😊😎
There are some physics you just can't beat: for years professional landscape photographers have been telling us you needed a sturdy and heavy tripod. Even if it broke your back, that's the sacrifice you need to pay to make top dog photos from a tripod.
The reason being: the heavier your tripod is, the less susceptible it is to wind or carrying surface vibrations to the camera.
Some were even giving the advice even if you already were carrying a sturdy tripod (which of course were far more expensive than the cheap lightweight plastic generic ones), you had to weigh it down even more with weights dangling on the central hook (not sure this would not introduce more vibrations because now you were introducing a free hanging weight more susceptible to catch wind). But anyway, everyone was convinced a sturdy, heavy weight tripod was the way to go.
Hey, check it out: now the new fad is all about lightweight carbon fiber tripods. Out with the advice tripods should be heavy and sturdy, that thing needs to be light man. And on top it should cost $ 600 for a concept which is as old since photography, three legs with extensions and a plate on top. And you need a whole bunch of engineers to do this who work four years on this: an incredible breakthrough in engineering that is what it is.
Where can I buy this thing so I could fork out $ 600 and put that old rugged tripod (you bought because they said it would last a lifetime) to rest.
Out with the old, in comes the new. Guess 10 years from now, landscape photographers will be posting ads those ultralight tripods were a big mistake because they are susceptible to vibrations and we should all go back to those heavy sturdy tripods we have now.
The tripod is more expensive than my camera lollll
Oh goodie! Was reading the kickstarter campaign when a Peter McKinnon notification pops up and answers ton of questions! Really big PD supporter, what to do with my Gitzo Traveller! 😀
Gitzo one is probably the most solid travel tripod if you do a lot of landscape photography but the price is a little bit ridiculous
WoW ! Well then after YEARS and YEARS of tripod disappointment. This looks like the real deal .Even at that slightly steep price point what a pleasure to carry around, store and naturally lets not forget actually set up and USE ! What a time saver ! Carbon Fiber is a cool feature for strength, light weight and reliability but not a must so I would be very happy and probably equally comfortable with the less expensive aluminum model ….because I'm not a millionaire or even really a thousandaire if there were a thing.... I don't know maybe there is I'd be willing to take the title ;) Anyway VERY intuitive and well thought out. Looking forward to the final version. Greatly well produced and entertainingly edited review as always !
hey pete, that little knob can actually be pulled out slightly making it easier to turn just like the knob on an analog watch pulls out a bit. the feature is shown in the KS campaign.
All the "youtubers" that I follow, promoting the same product at the same time. I understand that you have to live, but this subtracts much, perhaps all, the credibility.
surprised there is no fluid head pan handle for smooth pans??
Gitzo’s rotary lock mechanism is why I use Manfrotto. Plus I’d like to see this loaded with a heavy Nikon D810, 24-70 f 2.8 plus Nodal Ninja pano head or pan/tilt motors. All in all 5 kg of gear and then hang the bag on the hook. Sure the wind won’t take it, but probably because the legs retracted due to all the load. I am open to be convinced that this more than a super expensive mobile phone tripod.
Love Peak Design products. I have their Everyday 30L backpack and the pro clip to go with it. Only just went and upgraded to a Three Legged Thing Brian tripod. Now I am contemplating this product.
To savw everyone some time:
Retail Price: $350, they give you about a $60 discount if you back them on kickstarter now, ETA is December 2019.
$600 for the carbon fiber version.
Thank you.
I got an email from Peak for the Kickstarter... nice they are paying off the higher ups.
I would like a full 5-10 minutes episode of just Peter arguing with cameraman Peter about something stupid. I love when he does that bit but I'd like a full episode of it. Just for the gag!
bro 9:32 i found out that the nob can be pulled out so you can access it easier then push it back in for the sleek/compact look. also at 7:59 you there is a magnet to the hook so you can align it properly to get it in as you twist it. hope this helps but thanks for sharing it with us
Exclusive? Like everyone is reviewing this.
6:54 ahahahahahaha
BTW : They totally forgot about the most use of a tripod : PANORAMIC SHOT !
I'm glad someone else has spotted this flaw in what looks like and interesting design.
@peter mckinnon can you made this feed back to them ?
They have an adapter to fit 3rd party ball heads and plan to make their own panning heads in the future.
